The South Shore Resort was built in 1909, we tried to preserve the past so each cabin is decorated with the olden days in mind along with the necessities of today. There are 4 cabins, the main Lodge, and 100' of private sandy beach here on our 3 acres of picket fenced in land. The entire Resort will sleep 48 comfortably in the beds, and 52 including the sofa sleepers. Each cabin is its own little home with different sleeping arrangements and separate costs, and designed to make you feel comfortable.
Here is a description of our cabins:
Eagle Cabin: This two story cabin will sleep 12 peacefully. There are two bedrooms on the main level, one with a queen and the other with two queen beds. My Name is Jeffery Smith
Chloe Smith purchased this lodge in 2007
I purchased this property with the intent of retiring here, and one day passing it onto my daughters. I have always liked this area and I am grateful for having a comfortable place for families to come and enjoy themselves.
We just returned from a four night stay in August. By the time I booked in Feb/March, only the two smaller cabins were left, but we were able to fit two families of 4-5 members each into each cabin. The cabins were very clean. AC unit in one and central air in the other. Paper towels, toilet paper, and a few dish towels, wash cloths and larger towels provided in a laundry basket. You could leave the basket out with dirty towels and a request for replenished paper products on Monday and Thursday. Lots of dishes and utensils provided. You can tell the owner, Jeff, and his family takes great pride in this property. Jeff lives onsite and can be seen often doing work around the grounds. Very friendly and talkative :). It looked like there were maybe two other family groups on the property at the same time, but it never felt crowded. There is a nice sized beach, lots of grassy areas for the kids to run and play and a "game garage" complete with bikes of all sizes (bring helmets), foosball, shuffleboard and a few other things. Water smelled a little funny (maybe just because we are city folk!) Water pressure and temperature were good. We drank bottled water. Meijer is just off the main expressway about 10 min down the road. There is a mom and pop corner store a two minute walk if you need pop, chips, etc. but I wouldn't do big shopping there. Bring your own fishing poles. There were canoes and kayaks to use and some provided sand toys, noodles and a few inflatables. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return!
We had our week long family reunion here and it was the perfect place!! Each family had there own rooms, but enjoyed sharing the big den and kitchen area. The lake was beautiful!! We all enjoyed playing in the beach area, kayaking and fishing in the lake. In the evening, we built a bon fire on the beach and made smores. The recreation/massive game room had lots of things to do...ping pong table, fooseball and pinball machine. There were plenty of bikes to ride for all ages. We had a wonderful relaxing family reunion! I would highly recommend!!!
I have known about the South Shore Resort for many years, but just as of last summer inquired about it. It looks like a completely different resort since Jeff took it over 9 yrs. ago. He has done so much to make it a home away from home for everyone. This summer I finally got to use the facilities for myself. We had our family reunion here and it was so much fun. You don't have to leave the resort at all if you don't want too. It has everything you need from swimming in the lake to kayaking, boating, fishing, children playing in the sand and me relaxing on the beach in the warm sun. There's a play ground for the children, shuffle board, ping-pong, bicycling, basketball and much more. And you are a walk away from an ice-cream store which my grandchildren enjoyed. The best part of all is watching the sunset over the lake. Gorgeous! Thanks Jeff for making it our home away from home. See ya again I'm sure!
This was our first time staying at South Shore Resort, and we're already booked for next year. The cottages and lodge are perfect for family reunions. The cottages are very clean, and the grounds expertly maintained. There's a lot of space for people to get together but still have their own family time. The resort is furnished with bikes, canoes, a fire pit, picnic tables, grills, and plenty of games. The lake is the perfect size and is warm! The staff is friendly and great to work with. Can't wait to go again next year!
My friends and I stayed in the smaller Wren cabin for a few nights during the 4th of July. Very cool fireworks!! Clean cabin, friendly staff, stuff to do around the area! I will indeed keep this place in mind!
Our family has been coming to this resort for 21 years now!! We love it. The lake is the perfect size & the cottages accommodate our family, great beach & awesome people who go the same week as us every year. When Jeff took it over, he did wonders to it & really made it comfortable for all. Our kids are now in their 20's & can't wait to go the South Shore each year. Thanks for all you have done to the place Jeff. See you soon!!!
