Come enjoy this fisherman's paradise just steps from the bank of the Shenandoah River! Equipped with everything you need to feel at home, we promise you'll never want to leave! Enjoy the gorgeous river views from the bank, the firepit, or from the large screened porch where relaxation comes naturally. JUST ADDED: A beautiful, bubbly hot tub! Come sit and soak while watching the river flow by!

-Pet fee $50/ max 1 dog under 50 lbs. - No Cats



-Please note that due to the water in the area, there may be a slight sulfur smell when the water is first turned on. There is a water filter at the cabin, but there is still sometimes a little bit of an odor to the water- it is perfectly safe to drink and will dissipate very quickly, but it's something for guests to be aware of!



Please note: The optional firewood charge of $10/night is for firewood. If you don't think you will use the firewood or would like to bring your own, please let us know! We are more than happy to refund that to you.



PLEASE NOTE for November - March bookings: During these winter months, a four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle is recommended in case of implement weather.



There is no trash service in the area, so we ask you to please take your trash with you. There are instructions in the cabin telling you where to go to take it so you don’t have to take it all the way home! Alternatively, the house manager can take them for a tip of $5 per bag.

All guests must fill out contact form and sign our renter agreement after booking. We can provide a copy prior to booking if requested.

We had a great getaway at Barney’s Retreat. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the river and lucked out with fireworks every night. Having easy access to the river even allowed us to get our usually anti-water golden retriever to wade in and she realized she actually enjoys the water!Location is about 20 minutes from downtown Luray and we enjoyed getting to explore with that area had to offer. Would recommend

Best place to stay around Shenandoah!

Me and my wife booked this place and it was by far the best place we’ve stayed at. The place was super clean and well maintained ! I loved the fact they had board games and card games for us to enjoy while staying there plus other nice features ! Definitely will be booking in the future when we visit Shenandoah again with no hesitation !

Weekend Getaway

We had a fantastic and relaxing time at this property. We were able to check in early and were able to relax after a rough day in the clean hot tub! Fantastic communication with the property owners and managers! We had such a great time we have recommended the accommodations to friends and family.

Perfect place to relax!

We really enjoyed our stay. Cute, quiet cabin with all the necessary amenities. The river view is perfect and so relaxing. We spent the majority of our stay just floating in the river watching the canoers and kayakers float bye. The cabin is about 20 min from the town with plenty of places to eat and find a drink. The hot tub was great addition to the evening. We visited the caverns on the way out of town, a must see!

Perfect peaceful getaway.

Thank you for providing us with the ultimate peaceful getaway along the Shenandoah River. The cabin was perfect for our needs. It was fully stocked with kitchenware, towels and blankets. It even had a pantry with spices, cooking oils, coffee, tea and many many more condiments. It offered a selection of bathroom necessities as well that included soaps, and shampoos. The beds were very comfortable and the furniture was well kept and cozy. The screened in back patio was wonderful and included a hot tub for extra relaxation. The area was quiet and the river provided the perfect backdrop for fishing and water play. The location was close to town which had many great places to shop and explore!

Adorable, cozy cabin on the river

This cabin is so cute and a perfect stay for a winter getaway or summer escape! It’s very small and cozy but still comfortable with good quality appliances and amenities, and the hot tub is wonderful! The hosts were very communicative and gracious, and the property is located on a lovely private stretch of river while still being close to town! They provided all of the firewood we needed, and the cabin was a very comfortable stay. We will definitely be coming back in the summer!

Wonderful Property for a Relaxing Trip

Barney's retreat was exactly what I was looking for in my trip. The property offered beautiful views of the water, and enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. The communication was great as well. I'd definitely stay here again.

Grounds and river were lovely. Cabin could use a little work but it didn't spoil a wonderful week on the Shenandoah. Hot Tub was a great.

Great weekend away

We’ve been coming to Barney’s Retreat for the past few years and will continue to make it part of our yearly vacation. The location couldn’t be better- it’s literally right on the river. The cabin is spacious enough yet still cozy. There’s plenty of spices/ cooking supplies if you need them.

Absolutely Awesome!

Our stay at Barney's Retreat was nothing short of a PERFECT getaway. The owners have thought of everything their guests would need, including the "big bobber" cooler which got a bunch of use - LOL! We had such a peaceful and relaxing stay. This stretch of the river is perfect for wading in the water while fishing. We hope to return many more times.

Nice long weekend getaway

We came to stay for our anniversary and really loved everything. Clean and perfect size! Hot tub was clean. The power did go out once, but only for maybe 20 minutes. Good information was left in the guest info book. Only two things I would note is that the shower is very smell, and if you’re sensitive to scented detergent, I would bring your own bedding. It wasn’t all washed in something scented, but something was enough to notice. Check in/check out was super simple. We will definitely come back in the future :)

Our stay was too short!

We absolutely loved this little cabin! Just my husband and me for our anniversary trip. Definitely the most well stocked kitchen with cutlery, good pots and pans, etc. plus plenty of spices. Right on the river! Only 20 minutes from wal mart and grocery stores but really out there to get the secluded feel we were looking for. Right down the road from Shenandoah River Outfitters. We did the rafting on the river adventure. We hope to be back very soon!

Spring get away

We booked last minute before our trip, looking for a quiet place to get away and relax for our anniversary. Barney’s didn’t disappoint. We booked an additional night! The river was right out our back door and the cabin had everything we needed. We stayed for 5 days and never turned the tv on with so much to do outdoors. We definitely plan on returning.

Great location with beautiful views of river. Lots of fun activities! Home had everything you need for the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. Cell service was non-existent but you can connect through WiFi for calling.

Best Cabin I've Ever Stayed In

My family and I absolutely loved this cabin and the peaceful retreat it provided. The kids loved fishing off the riverbank while we made a fire for smores. The hammock was a nice touch and so was the hot tub. The cabin itself was so cozy. My favorite part was sitting on the screened in porch drinking coffee and listening to the river and birds singing. I've never felt more relaxed than at Barney's Retreat. 100% recommend. Also it is only 20 minutes from town and some lovely hiking trails. Super convenient.
