Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Ever dream of floating around in a houseboat and just taking in all the beauty? Well, that's exactly how you'll feel when you come to 'The Camp'. When you walk into the the living room/kitchen area, you get a 180 degree beautiful waterfront view, complete with grassy islands and sea birds. The beautiful porch/lanai goes almost right up to the water's edge. Kayaker's will just LOVE this place!!!

'The Camp' is located near Gulf Shores' white sandy beaches and overlooks a creek which immediately opens into Wolf Bay. If you like doing it all on your vacation such as boating, fishing, kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, going to the beach, shopping at the Tanger outlet mall, this is the place for you.

You will love the quiet serenity our community offers. Away from all the hustle and bustle, you can return from your beach trips and truly relax while dining out on your lanai or just gazing at the water views from indoors. In any season, the Camp is the perfect vacation spot for those that love to observe nature. We spot many pelicans, dolphins swimming by, and all sorts of fish and wildlife.

Let THE CAMP be your restful coastal vacation spot this year and you'll see,.....you'll want to come back.

The 'Camp' is tastefully decorated and is fully furnished with everything you'll need to enjoy a memorable and comfortable vacation to enjoy lots of water activities. You'll sleep like a baby on our comfy mattresses. The smaller bedroom has a VCR with movies/cartoons for kids when the weather won't permit outside activities.

You won't pay the high beach prices here, but you are close enough to get there in 10 to 15 minutes, then come home to your own quiet, tranquil creek cottage.

You are welcome to bring your boat....as long as it can get under the bridge nearby. Any boat such as a pontoon, kayak, jet ski, 'fish & ski' sized boat would be suitable. You can dock right at the end of the pier. And why not take advantage of getting free seafood! You can catch crabs right at the end of the pier!

You can boat up the creek to get to the fresh water fishing/swimming and feel like you are an explorer seeing our virgin Southern waterways for the first time (it's so natural), or go down the creek to turn the bend and make it into Wolf Bay. There's so much to see and do.

You won't lack for entertainment in the Gulf Shores' area. I forgot to mention the great seafood restaurants here and not to mention we are 5 min. from the famous Lambert's Cafe'. Or if you'd just rather take it slow and easy....you definitely can here.

The tiled lanai is huge and is large enough to hang your hammock and still have enough room for dining and sitting area. The full kitchen has a spacious dining area as well, should you like to dine in a lot.

The home is 1,200 sq. feet and that's not including the 30' x 15' lanai. The master bath is spacious and is also accessible to the Living area. You won't want to leave this place once you get here.

Much care and consideration has been made in making your stay as comfy as possible because we want you to think of this as 'Your Camp' and come back time and time again.

About Colleen Totsch

Hi. We know you will love The Camp as much as we do. We had the house built on the waterfront lot we purchased over a decade ago in order to come visit our parents down here on the coast. When my father became terminally ill we decided to go ahead and move down and put the camp available for rent. My husband and I live close enough that we are able to care for the property ourselves. This keeps it in great shape.

Colleen Totsch purchased this cottage in 1999

Lovely place and better than expected

  • 5 of 5

The best part of "The Camp" is the back porch with the view of the creek and jumping mullets everywhere! The cottage was clean, well stocked, comfortable and Colleen, our host, was very responsive though we had no issues at all. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely, Relaxing, Comfortable...!!!

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely, comfortable, and in a quiet neighborhood. The best part of the house was the wonderful back porch/lanai. Coffee in the morning watching the wild life and hearing the birds sing was a perfect beginning to the morning. The river was wonderful to watch the jumping fish in the afternoon. I would add a small bookcase of mystery novels for renters to read while sitting outside under the fans on the porch. It was a pleasant stay a this little house. I would visit this house again, and again, and again.

Foley and Elberta are nice little towns that have everything you need to have an enjoyable time. Antique shops, junk shops, a very well-organized used bookstore, and a delicious bakery were great fun. The Saturday Farmer's market was a treat, too. There was a local bee keeper with his honey and caged free eggs, the candle maker, the bat house maker, and the opportunity to buy fresh shrimp if wanted. The best kept secret is the Elberta Grocery. Go there and pick up some delicious stuffed pork chops.

Much Needed Serenity

  • 5 of 5

This place is just lovely. A short drive to the beach when you want to go. But sitting out on the lanai overlooking the water is so peaceful that it's hard to leave it. The camp is clean and very well stocked with necessities. This was our second vacation here and we plan to be back. Love this place!

So peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Camp. The children are already asking when we can come back. We found it very comfortable and found everything we needed. That back porch is a bit of paradise, never wanted to go inside. Loved seeing the dolphins and even caught site of a pair of bald eagles! How exciting!

Beautiful Quiet setting

  • 4 of 5

It's not a five star resort and it's not on the beach, but it was perfect for us! Looking out over the water right off the lanai is a nice way to start and end busy tourist days. The Camp is close enough to enjoy the beaches and far enough away from the crowds to have a peaceful nights sleep. Foley has everything you need, with great little restaurants and shopping. This location will be even more prime when the new destination spot - OWA - opens in the summer. The house is small, but was fine for the two adults and one teenager in our party.

The kitchen has everything you need for cooking and a nice table to enjoy meals together at. The internet works great. The TV in the living room is nice, but not well positioned for all the seats. Not a big deal since we were out and about most of the time.

The front door opens in to the master bedroom so we gave that room to the teenager and took the smaller bedroom. Both beds were comfortable. The master bath was nice - the teenager had plenty of room to spread her makeup out on counter. The smaller bath worked fine for us.

The check-out requirements were simple. The owner was very responsive and had provided everything needed for our stay. We really enjoyed our stay at The Camp.

Quiet and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our time at the camp. We liked the amount of space, comfort, kitchen, etc.

The one thing we were not prepared for was how far it is from the beach. If you want a beach vacation this may not be your best option. But I suppose that is our own fault as we could have investigated that more closely on our own.

If having quick access to the beach is not your top priority this is a great place!

Owner's Response: Hi Jonathan, sorry you didn't realize this wasn't at the beach. I try to emphasis in the description that The CAMP this is waterfront but not right in Gulf Shores and you'd have to take "day trips" to the beach. If you want to be right across the street from the beach and still have waterfront, I have a new beach property that might interest you for a future vacation. It's also within walking distance to kayak rentals, other boating rentals, shopping and restaurants. Take a look at www.vrbo.com/1010564. Rates are some higher but it's a 3 BR and a deluxe unit with wonderful amenities . Plenty of room for two or three couples or a family of 6. The rates at THE CAMP reflect the "off beach" prices. I'm so glad you still enjoyed yourselves. Thank you for taking the time to write.
