Lakefront Log Cabin - Spectacular Views! Centrally located on 6 private acres

Bedrooms 1
Space 900 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Sleeping Porch, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Located in south central Alaska, on the shores of Cottonwood Lake in the heart of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Alaska Loon’s Nest Cabin Rental is centrally located between Palmer and Wasilla on seven secluded acres, yet within minutes of town and attractions. The cabin is only 40 minutes from Anchorage and three hours from Denali National Park. Come stay in a truly Alaskan log cabin on a pristine trout-filled floatplane sized lake, surrounded by the Talkeetna and Chugach Mountain Ranges.

Sip your coffee while listening to the call of the loon echo across the pristine waters of Cottonwood Lake. Or, sit on the dock and watch the trout jump in the evening glow of a long summer night as an eagle glides directly above. Better yet, wet a line with one of our trout poles and catch a rainbow trout for dinner. Explore the lake in the paddleboat, or kayaks (lifejackets provided) or just trout fish with gear provided. Take a swim off our dock and soak in those warm summer days on the floating dock. Roast marshmallows and share stories around the lakeside fire pit. Relax and let time stand still!

Enjoy a place where time stands still, and breathtaking beauty abounds!

About Ron Zmuda

As a sourdough (lifelong Alaskan), Ron has a deep love for Alaska and the outdoors. When not selling real estate, Ron loves fishing, hunting, and sharing his tales of Alaskan adventure. A “jack-of-all-trades”, Ron built the family home and has kept the family homestead cabin in tip-top shape for over forty years. Ron has a deep love for this great state, and would love to help you plan your Alaskan vacation!

Why Ron Zmuda chose Gateway

Alaska Loon's Nest has been my family treasure since 1962. This original homesteader’s cabin was built in the 1950’s, and has been tenderly maintained by my family for over 45 years. The cabin features richly hued knotty pine throughout, with modern upgrades, while maintaining its original Alaskan history and charm. The cabin front offers expansive views of the lake and two mountain ranges, including the Hatcher's Pass area directly across from the cabin. Two decks, one lakeside and one with a gas BBQ overlooking the perennial flower beds and garden area, add to your enjoyment of this “one-of-a-kind” Alaskan setting!

What makes this cabin unique

Come enjoy a one-of-a-kind Alaskan setting while being within minutes of major attractions and conveniences. You'll soon discover why Cottonwood Lake is still a 'jewel' in the chain of lakes in the area, and why Alaska Loon's Nest seems like it's nestled in a world of its own. Watch eagles fly directly overhead on their daily flight path, visiting moose and fox, waterfowl, trumpeter swans, and my favorite, the loon. Take an early morning or late evening paddle around the lake as the loons' eerie calls echo across the water, and you'll understand why time seemingly stands still at Alaska Loon's Nest! Please note that the owner's home is next to the cabin rental.

A must visit when exploring AK

  • 5 of 5

Simply wow! This "cabin" is truly special. As soon as you walk in you will see the passion that Ron and Cindy have for their place. Enjoying the view from the front windows that are all glass is amazing and where went spent almost all of our time when not out exploring.

A BIG suggestion, when arriving at Wisilla go to the the cabin first before you go shopping, there are plenty of stores close by but see what you need first, Ron has it well stocked with everything to get you started. The cabin is in a a remote location at the water yet close to restaurants and shopping. We liked Carrs market, more personal and much more our speed, but there is a huge market that you can shop at close by as well, get your groceries probably get a hair cut and pick a mower on your way out! Do watch the prices of wine and beverages, they vary a lot, sometimes the bigger places are a better deal.

Wisilla is a perfect location, we ventured from the area one day and wish we hadn't, so much to do right there. Some maps will get you turned around a bit but Google Maps worked just fine.

There are plenty of reviews about all amenities so I will leave that be, (well do have to say that Ron's salmon dip is out of the world!) but If you need anything at all during your visit you can text, call or simply walk next door and talk to Ron. It is one of the very best experiences we have had with VRBO, you have to go to truly appreciate it, we will definitely be back.

Thank you Ron and Cindy.

The Go-to Accomodation for this part of Alaska

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we stayed at this very lovely cabin built on Lake Cottonwood. Second time certainly didn't disappoint. What's not to like with a very quaint, clean, and efficient little home overlooking a stunning view of the lake and mountains. Nice little dock for fishing/swimming with a paddle boat to boot. Lots of eagles and other wildlife to see as well as aircraft landing and taking off on pontoons--my first time to see that! Very quiet at night and comfortable beds. Owners are super nice and accommodating. Most fun of all was Ellie Mae and Raven, the two mixed lab doggies providing constant entertainment. Have fun!
