About Linda Sheehy-Brownstein

Your Hosts: Linda and Bruce. We have enjoyed many trips to the Okanagan over the years. We purchased our 80 acre property and moved to Oliver at the end of 2007. After 25 plus years working in the film industry in Vancouver, Linda now enjoys running the High Chaparral Guest House. Bruce continues to commute, working on various film projects during the week. We live in a separate residence on the acreage with our house dog, Oliver.

Linda Sheehy-Brownstein purchased this guest house in 2007

Why Linda Sheehy-Brownstein chose Oliver

High Chaparral is unique and unlike anything else offered in the area. The scent of ponderosa pine and wild sage enchant the senses while the breeze whispers through the trees. Our property is home to many species of birds, including quail, grouse, sage thrashers, bluebirds, hummingbirds, eagles, owls, hawks and vultures. In the Spring many beautiful wild flowers cover the surrounding hills. Ancient deer paths are present throughout the acreage, still used today by our resident deer and are an easy hike for our guests. Oliver is home to world class restaurants and over 40 award winning wineries.

Relax while enjoying the peacefulness our 80 acre property offers - privacy is yours in a gorgeous setting. We are stewards of our land and have signed a covenant with Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship Society to maintain the wildlife habitat on our property

What makes this guest house unique

While set in privacy of the pristine wilderness - we are only 10 minutes from Main St., Oliver. From High Chaparral Guest House you can visit over 30 wineries, 3 golf courses, many hiking/biking trails, 3 lakes, award winning restaurants, bicycle rental or horseback riding. After a day of wine tasting, you can return to the guest house, prepare your dinner and enjoy some of our local wines, while taking in the spectacular sunset on our wrap around deck. High Chaparral has two private suites, each with a separate entrance. A fully equipped kitchen is available for your use at no extra cost.

Beautiful and remote adobe cabin

  • 5 of 5

Quiet, quaint, remote and well supplied. Excellent little getaway located less than ten minutes from Okanagan wineries. Beautiful, natural surroundings. Nicely furnished. Well stocked (though shared) kitchen. Can be booked as one room (for two) or as two rooms (for four total). Owner/operator is super nice and helpful with tips for the area. Would definitely book again and recommend to friends.

Beautiful South Okanagan

  • 5 of 5

This is a good property for two couples to share, as each suite is self-contained and private, with the kitchen being a separate, shared room.

There is no dining area other than the patio, which in summer is ideal except that when we were visiting forest fire smoke made the patio a bit less than perfect.

Regardless, the Okanagan is beautiful country and Oliver is a good place to stay when wine touring (we did the Osoyoos/Oliver region one day and the Naramata Bench the second.)

Owner's Response: Hi Nancy - Thank you for your review. Each suite has a dining table with 2 leaves - in the past during inclement weather 2 couples have set up the table either in one suite or the kitchen. We're sorry you were impacted by the smoke. We are hoping for sunny days and blue skies ahead.

Peace and quiet, room to think

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed 3 nights of hard-to-find peace and quiet here. My favourite thing was simply getting up early and sitting on the front verandah with my coffee, breathing in the view, and listening for the deer to appear at the bottom of the hill (they did). This is a completely isolated spot with no other house in sight; but it is only a 10 minute drive to Oliver (where a lunch or dinner at Miradoro at Tinhorn Creek Winery is a memorable indulgence), and a 30 minute drive to Penticton (down the spectacular east side of Skaha Lake - a stunning drive), with Naramata, Peachland, and other Okanagan wonders just beyond. Linda was very easy to communicate with and very helpful.

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

I booked the entire guesthouse for us and another couple who were from out of town. I have never tried booking on VRBO but was very impressed with the experience. The description of the property was on point. The property is very isolated and tranquil and the views are spectacular! I met Linda and she was very pleasant, flexible and accommodating to our needs. I was very impressed with Linda's passion in nature conservation and has dedicated herself to limiting property development on her 80 acres thus us being able to enjoy all the wildlife (saw a doe and mama deer, grouse and eagles and woodpeckers) and nature. My husband enjoyed hiking on the property. The communal kitchen was great, with all necessary spices, dishes and appliances needed to have meals made. All the signage that Linda has posted around the kitchen and within the suite made any questions we did have such as operation of the air conditioning unit etc. easy for us to navigate. The unit was lovely and tastefully appointed (cow hide rug, leather couches, nice duvets, glass door on shower stall, etc). The queen bed was very comfortable for sleeping and having the windows open at night was great to hear all the wildlife. We were situated very close to multiple wineries and various eating options. I recommend to do a farm tour at covert farms and eat at Terrafina at Hester Creek Winery. I without a doubt highly recommend this accommodation and will book in the future. :) Thanks Linda good job!
