Three bedroom (plus eagle’s nest), two and a half bath contemporary mountain home in the Northpoint development.

End of the road at the top of the development — very private setting. (4WD/chains required in winter.) Monongahela National Forest right out the front door, with miles of trails for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Two mountain bikes and a canoe are provided for your enjoyment.

This home was built on a wooded, ridge-top lot with an abundance of natural rock outcrops. The multi-level deck offers opportunities for outdoor dining, nature contemplation, or your morning cup of coffee. It includes a full-size dining table and a charcoal grill for afternoon barbecuing.

The lower level of the home features one bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with one queen, one bunk and a TV with DVD/VCR. Each room has direct access to the deck. The lower level also includes a full bathroom and laundry room.

The main level features the living room with stone fireplace, Satellite TV/DVD, sleep sofa, half bath and well-equipped kitchen with dining area. There is a fully-enclosed mudroom just inside the front door.

Upstairs is a spacious third bedroom (one queen) and full bath. Up the spiral staircase is the cozy eagle’s nest bedroom with queen futon and 360-degree views of the national forest and Canaan Valley.

Additional photos emailed upon request.

Sheets/towels are not provided.

Canaan Valley is truly a four-season recreational Mecca: beat the heat and humidity with a summertime rental, enjoy the spectacular fall colors from the back of a mountain bike or horse, ski at one of the Valley’s resorts in winter (or cross-country right out the door), and the best of springtime whitewater boating (Blackwater, Forks of the Cheat, etc.).

Come experience the best of wild and wonderful West Virginia!

About The Owner

Frank and Bridget Fico at Bald Knob, overlooking the southern end of Canaan Valley.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose West Virginia

We have been coming to Canaan Valley for over 20 years, primarily to enjoy the myriad cross-country skiing options available here. We have had our teenage girls skiing with us since they were too big to carry along in the backpack. When we found this property, we knew it was in a perfect location to ski right from our house without having to make a long uphill climb or cross private land, using a network of trails that connect to Canaan Loop Road. We hope other cross-country skiers will appreciate and take advantage of the location.

What makes this house unique

We have left the mountain bikes at the house for others to enjoy because the location also affords great opportunities for mountain biking: Canaan Loop Road is a gravel/dirt road that offers easy access to Blackwater Falls State Park through the National Forest with minimal car traffic, and there are numerous side trails that offer more advanced single-track opportunities. The house is situated on an oversize lot, with extra buffer between the nearest neighbors. And our location at the top of the development means ample peace and quiet for just lounging out on the decks and enjoying the wooded surroundings.

Quiet and solitude

  • 5 of 5

This home is lovely and spacious and the location is superb-on top of the mountain with access to the forest right across the drive. Our few days there were peaceful. Blackwater Falls was worth the 20 minute drive and the trek up and down the steps. If you enjoy hiking or just sitting on the deck enjoying the forest that surround you, this is the home for you.

Beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Fazenda for 4 nights between Christmas and New Year's. It was a great property and a perfect opportunity to have some family R&R together and re-connect with each other. Our kids are all out of the house so it was especially nice to be able to bring our 2 dogs along since they miss them a lot. The house is very cozy and the views are awesome, particularly from the eagle's nest room on the 4th level, accessible via a very cool spiral staircase. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfortable and the house is well kept and clean. There are games, puzzles, books, and movies available in case you forget to bring your own. We weren't fortunate enough to have snow but there are 2 excellent state parks nearby plus a wildlife refuge that offers excellent hiking. There is even a beautiful hiking trail right across the street from the house. The only thing that we occasionally missed was an internet connection (mostly our kids). However, the cell signal at the house is pretty strong so it was easy to connect to the web via smartphone for those "I must stay in touch with my friends" moments. The owners were very easy to work with and everything went quite smoothly with the rental process. I'd highly recommend this property for any time of year!

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful house in WVA. The home was beautiful. My husband and I were there with our son and a friend. The beautiful house had everything we needed with plenty of room for more people. It is in a beautiful location, with great trails to hike just outside the front door. We visited Blackwater Falls one day and explored the towns of Davis and Thomas. We also took a drive to Seneca Rocks and explored their underground caverns. It was a fantastic break for us and we look forward to coming back. Thanks again, Frank!

Thank you! Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Frank. Great place! Beautiful home, and incredibly quiet. We enjoyed family dinners at the big dining room table, were able to visit as we cooked those meals in the open kitchen, and as we relaxed on the big wrap-around couch watching movies and listening to the crackle of the fireplace. We loved the decks - we did yoga and boot camp on the big downstairs deck and watched the sunset on the cozy upstairs deck. We took the dogs out on the trail that was literally RIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD in to the Monongahela National Forest. And the Eagle's Nest-so great. Beautiful views, and our daughter loved being up there. And getting in to and out of the house was very easy. Thanks again for facilitating a great week-end at a great place!

The perfect place for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with the accommodations at Fazenda! The home was much bigger than what the pictures show. The kids loved the crows nest and the adults enjoyed all of the windows! We literally were perched in the treetops! We can't wait to return in warmer weather!

We spent most of our time at black water falls and hiking the trails nearby the house. It was just what we wanted!
