BOOK NOW FOR WINTER 2017-2018 and SPRING 2018.

Why stay here?

Simple. Experienced owners, perfect location, charming apartment, a management sensitive to professionals and traveler needs.

Unlike most Paris apartments, we offer both creature comforts and classic charm: that is, a view AND an elevator, a washer AND a dryer, a dishwasher in the kitchen - you'll even have a local manager to greet you and to contact in case of any emergencies. This is a completely safe and secure residential building in a true Parisian neighborhood, convenient to everything you'll want to see, and with our recommendations in-house for everything that we recommend you do and places we really like to eat.

Located in a food-lover’s paradise, our beautiful Parisian apartment is on the same block as some of the most celebrated bakeries, groceries, traiteurs, cheese shops, and patisseries in the Marais. You can buy everything from wine to oysters, charcuterie, baguettes, fresh flowers or fresh chevres, and the most prized and perfect chocolates, all right on our street. Also, many wonderful restaurants are within easy walking distance. Our personalized guidebook fills you in on all our favorite spots. Plus you'll find galleries and museums galore, from one with Proust's bedroom to one showing the history of Jewish Paris – and, yes, of course, the Picasso Museum too – all within the radius of a few blocks. Walkability? We're off the charts.

A two-bedroom apartment, it is on the fifth floor -- with elevator! -- of a serene 19th-century building. The flat is elegant and charming, with oak herringbone floors and 200-year-old floor tiles. Classically furnished, bright and airy, the apartment has views overlooking the rooftops of old Paris, with a one-lane bustling street prized by Parisians in the front and a quiet cobble-stoned courtyard in the back.

Both bedrooms have plenty of light and air. Situated at opposite ends of the apartment, there is complete privacy, and each bedroom has a comfortable queen-size bed, making the place perfect for families, friends, or couples traveling together.

The apartment is in a classic French style—appointed throughout with antique furniture, oak and mahogany armoires, period lighting— but it has been fully modernized with a full kitchen, dishwasher, microwave, full oven, bathtub and shower, separate W.C., and laundry room with washer and dryer. Free high-speed internet access and wi-fi plus a flat-screen television with cable channels -- and free phone service back to North American and to land lines throughout Europe, ensure you stay in touch.

In the winter, there is plentiful central heat via radiators. In the summer, there are fans and the breezes maximized by the architecture: the floor-through design of the flat lets air flow all the way through the building.

Outside, our street is the dividing line between the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. The block was reconfigured in 2014 with wide stone sidewalks, benches, and just a single lane of one-way traffic, making for a classic, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

It’s an easy stroll to the Seine, to Notre Dame, the Place des Vosges, the Musée Carnavalet, the Jewish Museum, Arts et Métiers, and much more. Also convenient to the 'Velib' system of shared bikes which you can book online.

Our part of the Marais is one of the most picturesque districts of Paris, just three doors from the Archives Nationales. There’s a rich concentration of museums and historic buildings that have not changed in centuries. At the same time, the area is increasingly alive with shops, restaurants, cafes, and galleries. And yes, there’s plenty of shopping to tempt those interested in Parisian couture.

You will be greeted at the apartment upon arrival by our bilingual Paris liaison, who will give you the keys and show you the apartment. She is also available to solve any emergencies should they arise.

Discounts for stays of one month or longer. Bigger discounts for three months or longer.

This is a non-smoking apartment. No pets allowed.

About Ruby Rich and Mary Peelen

We live in San Francisco but spend our spare time in Paris. The minute we arrive in our Paris apartment, we seem to relax and breathe a little easier and smile a little more. We adore our walks through the streets of Paris. Above is a photo of Mary exploring a new area of the city, thrilled with the discovery of village life in the midst of an outlying neighborhood. We have fixed up the apartment to reflect our own desire for Parisian ambience, but with all the conveniences so we can enjoy life there. Come see for yourself!

Ruby Rich and Mary Peelen purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Ruby Rich and Mary Peelen chose Les Archives

We bought this home to have one foot in Paris. We are city-lovers and chose an absolutely central neighborhood that's beloved by Parisians themselves for both food and history. Ours is a block filled with the highest-quality food and specialty shops. It's close to the Right Bank's museums and shops, while at the same time full of stone buildings and stories that give off a sense of history that we just don't get in the U.S. The greatest adventure? Walking the streets of the Marais! It's always our first ritual upon arriving to walk down to the Seine. And then to spend every day walking further and further afield, always finding new favorite places to experience and pass on to our guests. Paris is all about discovery, and we love to combine impromptu walking tours with the daily return to our beloved, well-known nieghborhood with its unique attractions.

What makes this apartment unique

There are too many benefits to count! The best pastry: next door. The best cheese: across the street. The best meals: all around. The best bread: downstairs. Great coffee: roasted and ground fresh, on the same block. We love to sip morning coffee looking over the rooftops of the Marais, walk down a block to buy the newspapers, figure out what to explore on each visit. We are dazzled by the light and, in summer, the sound of the swallows swooping through the neighborhood. In the winter, at holiday time, lights are strung across the street and make us think we're in a time machine where the old customs are still observed. There is a sense of magic, charm and vitality to 'our' corner of the Marais that nowhere else in Paris can touch – at least for us! And we try on every trip to visit the Carnavalet Museum. It's just a 5 minute walk from the apartment, and the entire history of Paris is there -- even a room with the very bed in which Marcel Proust lay at night and wrote his Temps Perdu.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are well settled into the Adorable Apartment and finding our Parisian

rhythm. Our trip here and arrival to the apt. went very smoothly and your

manager was here and very nice. We love the location of the apt -- it is just

perfect for our needs -- we have made just one trip out to Cergy -- we will

go again tomorrow as things are just getting underway at the univ. and the

RER station (as you probably know) is just straight down Rambuteau by Les

Halles. We are also extremely appreciative of the modern appliances and

having both a washer and dryer, and we love the bathroom, especially --

such a nice tub and very roomy. The wifi/TV system has all gone great. Since

we are vegetarians, alas, we really aren't able to participate in the wonderful

French restaurant experience, but are so enjoying buying basically all of our

food in the nearest two blocks! We had a great meal at Little Italy across the

street. My husband can eat baguettes for three meals a day if we have them,

and we boringly had been buying all white bread, when due to a shortage one

day we tried the pain des bles (wheat) at our nearby boulangerie and fell in

love with it, too -- by the way, it was incredibly nice to have so much food in

the cupboard, and have used some of it, like cereal, olive oil and tea, but will

leave in place when we leave what we used.

the Adorable Apartment

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is indeed adorable and is in a fabulous, lively location. We could have stayed in the Maurais all week, except we wanted to visit museums and locations in other parts of Paris. The area feels like true Paris and is very secure. The apartment has all of the necessities and plenty of room for us two women travelers. Highly recommended!

Authentic Parisian Charm!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this delightful apartment in Paris for 8 nights in June. It is spacious, charming and full of amenities. We appreciated the windows on both sides for cross breezes & ample fans as it was quite hot during our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances, dishware & tools and the bath has plenty of towels. The neighborhood is great, convenient to the metro & short walks to museums, monuments, the Seine. We had restaurants, cheese shops, liquor stores, grocery stores, gelato & bakeries within 2 blocks! We traveled with a group of 8 and rented 2 other apartments in the neighborhood. Everyone agreed that ours was the best! Thanks Ruby & Mary!

Excellent Choice!!!

  • 5 of 5

We are two friends who stayed in the apartment for two weeks. It could not have been a better choice. The apartment is perfectly located in a wonderful neighborhood, filled with outdoor cafes, bakeries, restaurants, clothes stores, parks, museums and plenty of Parisian charm. It is near the Pompidou and Picasso museums, a short walk to the Seine, accessible to buses and trains, and close to many of the city’s numerous and well-known sights. The apartment has a well-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, comfortable beds, and lots of light. We were greeted personally on arrival and provided with a detailed guide to both the workings of the apartment and to the neighborhood, including restaurant recommendations, which were always excellent. And it was so great to have such a wonderful place to return to at the end of a full day out and about enjoying Paris.

Lovely apartment and great location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming apartment. The accommodations were comfortable and well kept, and the location was great. We were lucky to have weather that allowed us to open and take advantage of the big, swinging windows that you see in the pictures. Somehow it better connected us to the neighborhood, which is lovely and full of all of the types of shops that you imagine when you think of Paris.

The apartment is walking distance to museums, the Seine, Notre Dame, and many other sites. And there is a Metro stop very close to the apartment as well.

The owners were very helpful to us in getting oriented and responsive to our questions even before we arrived to make the most of their apartment and our experience.

We definitely would stay there again and recommend the apartment to our friends.
