Apartment, Floorthrough, Elevator, Views, 2 Bedrooms, Bath + WC, Sleeps 4
An incredibly charming two-bedroom apartment on a lively street in a serene 19th-century building---with an elevator! Views out over a charming old Paris vista from the 5th floor. The flat is elegant with oak herringbone floors and 200-year-old floor tiles. The view in the back is out over a beautiful quiet cobble-stoned courtyard. You cannot do better. Central heating, fans throughout in the summer. A floor-through flat with breezes and sunshine.
We've been renting our adorable apartment in Paris for nearly fifteen years. We're experienced owners sensitive to traveler needs. You'll also have a local manager to greet you and to contact in case of any emergencies. We have a specially tailored guidebook in the apartment with all our local tips and recommendations.
Both bedrooms have queen size beds and plenty of light and air. As they're situated at opposite ends of the apartment, there is complete privacy, so the place works well for two couples or families as well as for two friends.
The apartment is beautifully decorated with original period details (most of the furnishings are antiques from the marché aux puces) but we've also updated the place for comfort--there's an elevator, washer and dryer, a modern kitchen with dishwasher, free Internet, everything you need. Everything is high quality (and there's no Ikea).
This is a true Parisian neighborhood that is very central. Located in a food-lover’s paradise, our we're on the same block as some of the most celebrated bakeries, traiteurs, cheese shops, and patisseries in the Marais. You can buy everything from wine to oysters, charcuterie, baguettes, fresh flowers or fresh chevres, and the most prized and perfect chocolates, all right on our street. Also, many wonderful restaurants are within easy walking distance. Plus you'll find galleries and museums galore, from one with Proust's bedroom to one showing the history of Jewish Paris – and, yes, of course, the Picasso Museum too – all within the radius of a few blocks.
Free high-speed internet access and wi-fi plus a flat-screen television with cable channels -- and free phone service back to North America and to land lines throughout Europe.
In the winter, there is plentiful central heat via radiators. In the summer, there are fans and the breezes maximized by the architecture: the floor-through design of the flat lets air move all the way through the apartment. There's really no need for AC in this place.
Outside, our street is the dividing line between the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. The block has wide stone sidewalks, benches, and just a single lane of one-way traffic, making for a classic Parisian pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.
It’s an easy stroll to the Seine, to Notre Dame, the Place des Vosges, the Musée Carnavalet, the Jewish Museum, Arts et Métiers, and much more. In fact, the Cartier Bresson foundation will be moving around the corner in Fall 2018. We are very convenient to the 'Velib' system of shared bikes which you can book online.
Our part of the Marais is one of the most picturesque districts of Paris, just three doors from the Archives Nationales. There’s a rich concentration of museums and historic buildings that have not changed in centuries. At the same time, the area is increasingly alive with shops, restaurants, cafes, and galleries. And yes, there’s plenty of shopping to tempt those interested in Parisian couture.
Please ask about discounts for stays of one month or longer. Bigger discounts for three months or longer.

About Ruby Rich and Mary Peelen
We live in San Francisco but spend our spare time in Paris. The minute we arrive in our Paris apartment, we seem to relax and breathe a little easier and smile a little more. We adore our walks through the streets of Paris. Above is a photo of Mary exploring a new area of the city, thrilled with the discovery of village life in the midst of an outlying neighborhood. We have fixed up the apartment to reflect our own desire for Parisian ambience, but with all the conveniences so we can enjoy life there. Come see for yourself!
Ruby Rich and Mary Peelen purchased this Apartment in 2003
Why Ruby Rich and Mary Peelen chose Les Archives
We bought this home to have one foot in Paris. We are city-lovers and chose an absolutely central neighborhood that's beloved by Parisians themselves for both food and history. Ours is a block filled with the highest-quality food and specialty shops. It's close to the Right Bank's museums and shops, while at the same time full of stone buildings and stories that give off a sense of history that we just don't get in the U.S. The greatest adventure? Walking the streets of the Marais! It's always our first ritual upon arriving to walk down to the Seine. And then to spend every day walking further and further afield, always finding new favorite places to experience and pass on to our guests. Paris is all about discovery, and we love to combine impromptu walking tours with the daily return to our beloved, well-known nieghborhood with its unique attractions.
What makes this Apartment unique
Number one? I'd have to go with the best pastry. Pain de Sucre is RIGHT NEXT DOOR and their pastry is unequaled. Also the best cheese shop is across the street. Very amazing Italian restaurant across the street too. Also? Our place is just so cute. There is a sense of magic, charm and vitality in our little corner of the Marais. On every trip there we visit the Carnavalet Museum which is just 5 minutes away. It's free and the entire history of Paris is documented there --they even have Proust's room.

My husband, 22 month old son, and I loved our stay at this wonderful apartment. Great location, easy to access everything! The apartment had everything we were looking for when traveling with a small child- two rooms, a common area, a bathtub and an elevator. The elevator is small but still great to have, especially with a toddler and a stroller. They were even able to arrange for us to have a crib which really made a huge impact on our luggage! Definitely recommend this apartment to future travelers.
Great location and beds
We loved our stay. We place a high priority on beds and these were queen size and very comfortable. The location is fantastic with a wealth of restaurants, cafes, bakeries and grocery stores on our street. Thank goodness for the stairs, we walked off some of the fine pastries from Sucre! The location could not be beat, 2 blocks from the metro made returning home after walking all over Paris very easy.
The only downside comes along with the incredible upside. The street is a popular place on weekends and the clientele can get quite loud. The back bedroom was fine, as it faced an alley.
We very much appreciated how accommodating the hosts were with our early morning arrival.
We loved our stay and would return again.
the Adorable Apartment
The apartment is indeed adorable and is in a fabulous, lively location. We could have stayed in the Maurais all week, except we wanted to visit museums and locations in other parts of Paris. The area feels like true Paris and is very secure. The apartment has all of the necessities and plenty of room for us two women travelers. Highly recommended!
Loved it, again!
My second time staying here was once again wonderful!! I feel like a true Parisienne staying here. There's everything you could possibly need right downstairs. I'll be staying here again & again♥️
Authentic Parisian Charm!
We enjoyed this delightful apartment in Paris for 8 nights in June. It is spacious, charming and full of amenities. We appreciated the windows on both sides for cross breezes & ample fans as it was quite hot during our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances, dishware & tools and the bath has plenty of towels. The neighborhood is great, convenient to the metro & short walks to museums, monuments, the Seine. We had restaurants, cheese shops, liquor stores, grocery stores, gelato & bakeries within 2 blocks! We traveled with a group of 8 and rented 2 other apartments in the neighborhood. Everyone agreed that ours was the best! Thanks Ruby & Mary!
Thank you, Kim, for appreciating our "adorable apartment" as much as we do. Delighted to hear we won the sweepstakes--or rather, that you won. Come back again.
Cozy Apartment -- Great location -- Helpful owners and manager
This area is bursting with Cafes, Galleries, Museums, historic sites, shops of all kinds, and the kind of street life that you only dream about. Our block is a gourmet paradise: there's a greengrocer, wine, chocolate, cheese, fish, a butcher, bakeries all just steps away.-- Parisians' favorite spot to shop for the best ingredients. If you don't cook, don't worry, there are wonderful restaurants and traiteurs with prepared foods right on our street too; it's truly a foodie paradise We're just steps from Les Archives Nationales and some of the best preserved buildings in all of Paris. The entire Marais is not only of historic interest but there is FABulous shopping. (I get all my clothes in the Marais during the sales!)
