Wild Bluff on the Edisto is nestled on a high bluff hidden among the trees and wildlife overlooking the longest free flowing black water river in North America. Designed by landscape architect Robert E. Marvin, this 3-level glass house, built of post and beam construction, attracts those searching for a peaceful and relaxing experience. Characterized by its serenity, the brightest light may be the moon’s reflection off the flowing river. Wild Bluff has been featured in Southern Living magazine as a featured house design.
AVAILABLE ACTIVITIES: Canoeing, kayaking, reading, relaxing, fishing from the dock, and searching for shark's teeth along the bottom of the river; Wild Bluff is a perfect retreat for authors as well as a great winter weekend away from snow. This section of the Edisto is perfect for small boats, canoes and kayaks but not recommended for larger boats, jet skis, or water skiing. LINKS: Please see the links at the bottom of the page for more information on the Edisto River and Walterboro's South Carolina Artisans Center.
LOCATION: Wild Bluff is located off I-95 (10 minutes)on Highway 15 at Canady’s, SC between St. George and Walterboro. Additionally, Wild Bluff is close to Charleston (1 hour, passing Middleton Gardens on 61 on the way), Savannah (1 hour and 15 minutes), Columbia (1 hour 15 minutes), and Beaufort (1 hour).
1 Queen , 1 full bed, 2 single beds, 2 couches
1 ½ bathrooms

YOUNG CHILDREN: While Wild Bluff is an ideal family getaway, many of its most enjoyable features may also put young children (5 or younger) at risk for injury, including: spiral stairway, large sliding glass windows (overlooking the river); and much of the outside areas adjacent to the river (atop a steep incline in many areas). Additionally, the house is not equipped with baby-safe protections such as socket plugs, etc. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
DOGS: Pets are welcome, but for similar reasons, we caution pet owners of potential risks (as our dogs find their way to the river within minutes of arriving). Pets not accustomed to rivers or surrounding woods may require additional supervision; thus, we ask owners to exercise caution and plan accordingly (pets are welcome to be kept in the house, off the furniture, but preferably on the screened porch). Due to the wooded area, fleas and ticks will likely be in the woods, be certain your dog is properly treated for fleas and ticks. We charge a $25 flat pet fee (not per pet). Please contact me with any questions or concerns. That said, our dogs absolutely love it! RENTER MAY BRING PETS AT THEIR OWN RISK. OWNER IS NOT LIABLE FOR INJURY, ILLNESS, OR OTHER HARM THAT MAY OCCUR TO PETS WHILE AT WILD BLUFF OR ITS SURROUNDINGS.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY / AGE / MINIMUM STAY: The maximum number of adult guests is limited to eight (8) persons. However, upon owner’s express consent, additional adult guests may be permitted subject to an additional charge or $10.00 per person per night for guests in addition to eight (8) will be assessed. Renter must be at least twenty-five (25) years old. THIS PROPERTY REQUIRES A THREE (3) NIGHT MINIMUM STAY.
PAYMENT: An advance payment equal to 50% of the rental rate is required to secure the rental spot. Payment can be made by cashiers checks or personal checks payable to WESLEY HENDERSON. The balance of rent is due fourteen (14) days before your arrival date.
LIABILITY: Guests are liable for any damage to any part of the owner's property not due to normal wear and tear.

Sports & Adventure Activities
My friend Julie and I took our kids and enjoyed three days of hanging out together. We loved the open floor plan and beautiful views. The kids loved canoeing and we enjoying porch swinging and playing games. We hope to return again.
This is my ultimate "happy place"
This was our second visit to Wild Bluff and it didn't disappoint. Both the setting and the house are so lovely and peaceful. I could feel my blood pressure and tension drop almost immediately after arrival. The property manages to be both rustic and comfortable. The weather wasn't great for either visit but that didn't matter because we could enjoy the river view and the woods from almost anywhere in the house.
This is the perfect place to unwind. Nature completely surrounds you, we enjoyed going into Walterboro and visiting the Colleton park just across the way as well.
Beautifully architected home that enhanced the experience of being part of nature
We were surprised that the home only had 1 twin, 1 double and 1 queen. The double on the main level was defiantly the best room. It was crowded and warmer in the loft with little walking room between the queen and twin bed. We had beautiful views of the river and it was very mesmerizing watching the river, trees and animals. My daughter is a writer and found the environment very inspiring. There were a lot of spider webs and some of the windows were in desperate need of washing. Mr Marvin did an outstanding job with providing different forms of lightening throughout the home. We appreciate the talents of a architect master and feel that this was a very memorable experience. We went is September and the mosquitoes were terrible. My husband took his kayek and enjoyed a peaceful ride on the beautiful Edisto river. Overall, it was a wonderful family experience!!!! Thank you.
Watching the river, sunrise, sunset, breathing and relaxing in a grace-filled space. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
A fascinating house and lovely relaxing experience!
We fell in love with the house and actually enjoyed the whole "unplugged" experience. We expected rustic so were prepared but my only complaint is that the shower stall needs serious updating. The A/C worked great despite the outside temps in the 90's. We got into the habit of cooking breakfast & lunch at the cabin and eating dinner out at restaurants in Walterboro. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of some of the restaurants in the area. Next visit I would probably opt for a cooler time of year so that we could enjoy the outdoor features more and hopefully see more wildlife. If you choose the beautiful downstairs sleeping area with a view of the river, be prepared for an early morning wake-up when the sun rises and shines directly through the windows. We loved that the property was pet-friendly and brought a couple of folding "exercise pens" to make a small fenced area for the dogs outside to make sure that they stayed safe and contained when outdoors. Thanks for providing a setting for a wonderful relaxing visit!
