The name Zechlin (Szichalyn) comes from the Slavic and means, place two lakes. Documented the place was first mentioned in 1237, when the Cistercian on the western shore of the lake erected a priory. Flecken Zechlin is located about 100 km northwest of Berlin and 13 km from the center of Rheinsberg. Politically it belongs to the state of Brandenburg. The landscape is in the southwest corner of Mecklenburg Müritz Lake District, the Natural Park Stechlin-Ruppin country. Among the extensive forests of ancient beech and oak trees, the hiker more than a hundred-clear lakes. The city spreads out picturesque with winding alleys and stairs on the slopes of the Black Lake. The lake belongs to the network of federal waterways and can therefore be reached by boat from both Berlin and the North and Baltic Seas. Flecken Zechlin had since the beginning of the last century a popular destination of Berlin, which is why in 1928 even the rail line from Rheinberg was extended to stains.
