About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Welcome to Paradise! Location? This is IT! Our 2 BR/2 BA condo is literally steps from the Caribbean Sea on beautiful, family-friendly, relaxed Bolongo Bay. When we are on-island, this is our home and we are certain that you will enjoy the many 'extras' we make available to you: 300-count organic cotton sheets, air sanitizers, eco-friendly toiletries, plush over-sized beach towels...we want our guests to be as comfortable as we like to be.

The Master Bath has a beautiful, over-sized walk-in shower. The second bathroom provides a tub/shower combo - perfect for a bubble bath! The Master Bedroom is beautifully appointed with a king-sized bed, and features sliders which open up to the glorious Caribbean Sea.

The second bedroom can be arranged as 2 twin beds or one king - you choose. The fully equipped kitchen and tropical Living Area open onto a 30' balcony...perfect for dining al fresco, or cocktails. Three pools, three restaurants, a PADI dive shop, and water sports...enjoy!

Welcome to Paradise in the US Virgin Islands!

The Caribbean brings to mind balmy breezes, crystal blue water, swaying palms, sandy beaches - effortless relaxation. Many people imagine it as the location sung about in 'Margaritaville'...'boat drinks', endless sunshine, secluded harbors.

Johnny Depp fans seek locales once frequented by the Pirates of the Caribbean. Whatever your imagination conjures up as you consider the Caribbean, be assured that you will find it here, on the multi-faceted island of St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands. Pirates?

The islands' capital, Charlotte Amalie, still has alleyways pirates roamed. Today they are home to exquisite duty-free shops and charming restaurants - but it is easy to envision Capt. Jack Sparrow here.

Margaritaville has been referred to as 'a state of mind'. If a swim-up beach bar, golfing above the sea, or lounging in a hammock while sipping a cold one is your Margaritaville - St. Thomas provides. We invite you to visit our tropical Paradise on Bolongo Bay.

Down by the Bay...

Our 2BR/2BA suite is located at Watergate Villas East on Bolongo Bay. This location affords so many advantages! The bay is beautiful and has a large sandy beach - great for families. In the suite you will find plenty of beach 'toys' suitable for adults and children, guaranteeing fun in the sun and the sea. Sunfish, paddle boats, float mats, kayaks and swim vests can be rented at the bayside Beach Hut.

The onsite PADI dive shop and dive boat allows you to explore the undersea world w/o leaving 'home'. You will be staying steps from the sand, and our onsite Caribbean restaurant, Mim's Seaside Bistro. A short walk along the shore brings you to one of the 'Caribbean's Best Beach Bars' - Iggie's!

Their casual menus, weekly Caribbean Night Celebration (fire eater! glass walker!) and All-You-Can-Eat Crab Nights make them popular with visitors and local families. A bit further is the Lobster Grille, all day service and elegant seaside dining. Bolongo Bay has something for everyone!

Your place in Paradise...

Step in to your non-smoking Paradise and immediately relax! The air is refreshing (UV air sanitizer). Walk through the tropical Living Area, open the slider and step onto your 30' long balcony. To the left? Bolongo Bay Beach and your oceanfront pool, turn right towards the vast Caribbean.

Inside, down the hall is your Master Suite and a beautiful king bed. Open the slider, lie down for a moment and allow the trade winds to caress you. This is Island Life - surrounded by artwork created by local artists, dark wood furnishings with tropical finesse, and a wall of glass with the turquoise sea beyond. Welcome to Paradise!

As your travel companions settle in to the large second bedroom, take a look around your bathroom - thick cotton towels, organic toiletries, your walk-in tile shower. The Guest Bath is equally lovely, the vanity area spacious and bright. The hall closet reveals chairs, coolers, towels and toys. You find your swimsuit and walk to the beach. Unpacking can wait!

About The Owner

About us: We come from very different backgrounds...the Connecticut boy who discovered a love of fishing, and the San Diego girl who longed for the warmth of the sun on the sand, a real ocean and definite "Changes in Latitudes"...without the congestion and pollution. After years spent cruising to nearly every Caribbean port, Paradise has become our family's island home (much to our two daughters' delight!). Joe is in charge of the mechanical improvements (the new security-code lock, new entry area, etc.), Sue oversees the interior upgrades, creating an allergen-free environment. Daughters Arden and Olivia remind us that the new beach towels, chairs, and coolers were purchased for a reason; that there are fish awaiting our dog biscuits just outside; and that we need to take advantage of this "One Particular Harbour" as often as possible!

The Owner purchased this condo in 2009

Why The Owner chose Bolongo

Sue's initial plan was to find a place to purchase on St. John - the beaches are so beautiful! So, she rented a car and drove from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay - on the curviest, narrowest road she had ever driven on - and decided then and there that St. John would be the perfect place for a day trip from her island home on St. Thomas! But, where on St. Thomas? Time for research! She brought her pals Peggy (real estate agent) and Wendy (the voice of reason) to the island, leaving Joe at home. We visited nearly every beach and the surrounding properties - very serious work! The perfect place would have a beach hut, clean sand, a place to get food, a beach bar, a safe place for children to swim, and a welcoming "feel" to it. After much exploration and evaluation we decided that our Home Base for our research - Bolongo Bay - was the best place to be! The Offer to Purchase was signed while wearing bathing suits on the sand...Paradise!

What makes this condo unique

After seeing many vacation properties, this was the one that caused us to pause and say "This is IT!". The non-stop views; the gentle breeze coming into the Living Area, Kitchen, and the Master Bedroom; and the glorious Caribbean right outside - a fantastic location! This particular condo is so beautifully appointed and, at the same time, extremely comfortable...a casual elegance with a tropical vibe. We have added a few touches to create an allergen-free environment so that the molds and mildew that are prevalent in the tropics won't grow here. The 100% cotton bedding (organic, if you wish), plush cotton towels, and large variety of pillows transport you to a level of comfort not often experienced in "rental units"...because this is not a rental property. This is our island home and we welcome you to share it when we are not on-island. Enjoy!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We were impressed with the condo and how you thought of everything that would be needed for the vacation. We really enjoyed the breakfast at the Lobster Grille, actually ate there every morning! The best time we had was Wednesday night at Iggy's. We had my 3 year old daughter's birthday party there and she loved dancing with the moko jumbie! When we visit the island again we will be contacting you to stay in Paradise!! Thanks so much!

Great condo, great memories.....

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Sue & Joe's condo on Bolongo Bay. Everything that we needed was provided in the condo and all five female family members that made the trip were very happy. We rented a car from Paradise Auto Rentals which they delivered to the condo and picked up again at the trip's end. We all would recommend Paradise for a car rental. Coki Beach turned out to be the favorite with great snorkeling. We also went to Sapphire Beach, Sugar Beach, Lindquist Park - all located in the east end and a short drive from the condo. We ate dinner in Red Hook or cooked in the condo. With five fussy females, the condo furnishings were very nice, tropical and well suited our tastes. Everyone was very comfortable and we slept well each night. Overall it was a great trip, and my sister said she wanted to go back next year with some of her other relatives and stay at the condo again. Sue was always responsive to our questions and got back with us right away. We coudn't have had a better trip.

Great location. Place needs an update, very dated

  • 2 of 5

We loved the attention to detail the oweners give to helping you make the most of your visit to the island. We received many great tips on what to do, where to eat and where to shop. The condo needs a deep cleaning. The linens are well used and could be replaced. The wifi never worked while we were there and we didn't want to sit in the condo waiting for a repair person. They should have someone local to handle repairs.

Owner's Response: Wow! What a surprise to receive this review! My response to this is the following...I received a text from the Guests 24 hours after their arrival describing this condo as "your beautiful place at Watergate Villas East". Should I have received ANY indication that they were displeased, I would have worked to make them pleased immediately. As to the comment that the "Place needs an update, very dated"...the Living Area was refurnished approximately 18 months ago with beautiful furniture. I have spoken with the cleaning staff and have asked that closer attention be paid to tossing any linens that appear dated as we own many towels, sheets etc. and there is no reason to keep any dated ones. Arrangements have been made to have a "deep cleaning" performed. The internet on-island is a continual source of frustration for everyone. That said, the guests never indicated, beyond our initial communication, that the internet was still not working. Should a service call have been needed, I could have had the Office Manager oversee the service call so that the family's day would have not been impacted. It all comes down to communication between guest and owner. I am sorry that, in this case, there was a breakdown in that communication.

Great location in well stocked condo

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a month at this condo at Watergate Villas. It is a good location because there are three restaurants and a cool beach bar (Iggy's) within walking distance. I have been to St Thomas many times, so rented a car to go to my favorite beaches, but you could stay here for a week and be entertained on site without need of a rental. Sue provides beach chairs, noodles, coolers and some snorkeling gear. We brought the chairs to the local beaches, saving the $5 cost of chair rental (very helpful when you are staying a month). The kitchen was well stocked too with folks having left spices, sandwich bags, saran wrap, etc. I especially like the "karma boxes", meaning you could leave stuff you didn't want to bring home (like bug spray, toiletries, soda, etc) for the next person to use if they wanted.

Communication with Sue was easy and efficient via e-mail or texting. If you have never been to St Thomas, all you have to do is read the binders of information that she leaves in the condo for great tips on where to go and what to do. Wifi worked well in the unit.

There is a safe in the room for your passport and other valuables. The area is safe and monitored by security cameras and there are many other people around. Pool close to the unit is very nice and a nice alternative to the beach. The beach at Bolongo is not the best as it is rocky and there are sea urchins, so bring your water shoes. The snorkeling is very good here.

The condo is on the second floor, so we were able to sleep at night with the slider open and listen to the waves at night.

Bathrooms are showing sign of age but otherwise decent condition

Owner's Response: I am surprised to hear that this Guest considered our island home to be in "decent condition" as the following upgrades have all been completed in the past 18 months: all new designer furniture (Tommy Bahama) in the Living Area, new refrigerator, and new Bali Solar Blinds and air conditioners throughout. In addition, we have just had our oceanfront sliding doors removed and the cement under each re-leveled and retiled so that the doors can move easily. If by "dated" this Guest was expecting granite vanity tops in the bathrooms? No, we do not have granite...we have Corian, and the brand new toilet is one of those fancy "flush a dozen golf balls" toilets. Oh! And the garbage disposal was replaced in October 2016. All of this is to reply...no, our island home is not the Ritz Carlton, but it is faaaar above "decent"! We are extremely concientious and proud of the care we put into our island home.

Great Property - Close to several nice restaurants and walk to beach.

  • 4 of 5

Property was clean and well maintained and good location with walking distance to beach. Owner of this property was the most helpful as our party was planning a wedding and the owner made several suggestions regarding restaurants, etc. She was very responsive to all our needs. The condo itself was exceptionally well stocked with plenty of dishes, towels, cooler bags, etc. The balcony had amazing views and we enjoyed breakfast there each morning. We ate at Mim's on the property and the food and service was more than excellent. Would recommend this property for anyone looking for a nice condo in St. Thomas.

3rd Time Was a Charm - AGAIN!

  • 5 of 5

I can't believe I never submitted a review for this year's trip but as always Sue & Joe have gone out of their way to make this our home away from home!! This was the 3rd time we stayed at #263122 and it didn't fail! Hmm, new furniture was ordered but not in yet so there was super comfy furniture in the meantime that was different than the pictures. It made it REALLY feel like home. We found Island Time Pub on this trip and the shrimp scampi pizza is amazing! We travel with a 16, 15 and 3 yr old and I was pregnant with our 4th. Love that you can see the pool from the balcony so the older kids can leave if I'm tied up with one of the littles at home. Lots of water sports at Bolongo; also great for when my husband wants to go out with the older kids. We're hoping to head back before the end of 2016 with the newest addition. The view is absolutely breathtaking and the breezes are amazing. We only use the AC at night when we go to sleep and even with the windows closed, you can hear the ocean waves crashing on the rocks below. The restaurant options are great and I have even ordered from Mim's downstairs and brought it back to the condo. Speaking of restaurants, they are super kid friendly as well making this condo wonderful for travel with family. The ferry is a 10-15 min drive and we head over to STJ almost daily on the car barge. I have written every year in the journals in the condo and this year I think I wrote like 3 pages of info. I love reading the entries of past visitors and seeing where they like to eat and where they like to play. I think another amazing thing about this rental is that Sue is ALWAYS available if something goes wrong or if you have a question about something. She can be reached by e-mail, phone or text and has always answered pretty promptly (for instance, this year I had an issue with the WiFi password when the modem reset). When you come back to the mainland and inquire about subsequent stays, she also answers with the same promptness. There are a few groups on fb that are great to join, especially if you plan on visiting more than once. I really can't find a demographic that this rental would not be suitable for with the exception of someone with limited mobility as there are a few stairs getting into it. I would absolutely rent a car as there is just too much to see and too many beaches to be without one. If you plan on heading to STJ, get a 4wd (a sedan/compact will NOT get you up some hills) and take the car barge over.
