Enjoy Cape Cod the way it was experienced in yesteryear - peaceful, relaxing, and full of natural beauty. This spacious and comfortable home has been in our family since 1927. It is a truly unique property with lots of character. Situated on Vineyard Sound with unbelievable views of Martha’s Vineyard, Nobska Lighthouse, and Falmouth Heights, our home has a private sandy beach and the summer swimming is without equal.

The house is bordered on one side by the ocean and on the other by a private dirt road that runs parallel to the readily accessible Shining Sea Bikeway. It’s about 2.5 miles to downtown Falmouth, and a one mile leisurely stroll down the bike path and along Little Harbor to downtown Woods Hole: still franchise-free with quaint buildings, coffee shops, the ferry to Martha's Vineyard, an aquarium and information centers for a scientific community hosting the Marine Biological Laboratories and the Oceanographic Institution.

Enjoy a week of sunbathing, swimming, sailing, bicycling, fishing, walking and exploring Cape Cod from this private and beautiful spot. The way Cape Cod used to be.

Christmas 2015

  • 5 of 5

How does one begin to describe the kind if priceless memories we made at Olcottage this Christmas? Part if me wants to not tell, so that perhaps we can never compete with another for the privilege of being in this special home.

Lee and Brian gave of themselves in every respect. They were always accessible and good natured, answering each question with an understanding that "Christmas 2015" would never come again for our family and needed to be special. We had six children, three married, two anniversaries, six grandbabies three and under, and two military sons and their families coming in from deployment and all the angst and prayer that being apart, needs being together, to heal. Olcottage....and Lee.....brought us all together under one roof again and it could not have been better! We walked the beach and the the bike path, made our best ever Advent Wreath of sand and seashells and Olcottage holly, cooked together in the "un-yuppified" and updated-and-perfectly-appointed kitchen(...we have many foodies among us too! ). Lee and Brian even put a tree up for us! The place was impeccably clean! The beds were so comfortable and the linens were first-rate! It was a priceless time is in the walls of Olcottage It is one of those living houses that just wrapped us in its embrace....can anything better be said?

Celebrated our 50th with a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

I had never rented a vacation home before and was a little skeptical. I did not need to be. My questions were all answered before I booked this wonderful home. It is even nicer than the pictures. Someone did a wonderful job of decorating using the old and new. The house drew me once I found it. It was like coming home to my grandmother's home (only now she lived in a very large home on the ocean and had everything ready just for me).

We had 8 adults and 9 children ages 4 to 15. They all had a wonderful time and had plenty of room to get together or be alone and discover new things. It was a new experience for everyone. Moms loved this house because they were right at the beach. They could relax on the beach and the kids could come and go with a family member always close. They commented it was the best stocked home they had every stayed at.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with all the family and it was a really great experience. The Burwell's were very gracious hosts making us feel welcome, not intruding, but letting us know where they could be reached if we had questions.

The bike path was right out the back door. What a great ride with views of the ocean. Some of the adults went for a drink in Woods Hole and they visited the aquarium. We did take a whale watching trip out of Hyannis and adults and kids all enjoyed it. To top everything, the weather was perfect. We just had rain one morning. This is the first vacation that I didn't want to go home. The family agreed they would all like to return for another visit. We'll have to see if the stars all align again. (All of the other reviews are right on)

Loved every minute at Olcottage

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful and unique house for a large family reunion! Just to mention a few features, there are many charming bedrooms on three floors, multiple baths including a great outdoor shower, a library with TV and lots of books, a huge dining area with room for dancing, a sun porch for indoor games and conversation, a brick patio with gorgeous views, a private beach, a great grassy area for badminton, volleyball and croquet, a kitchen with as many trays, bowls, glasses, and silverware that you could possibly need, and so many other supplies that all you will need to bring is your food and drinks! The bikeway is right across the road and it’s great for walking, as well. Woods Hole Village and the Martha’s Vineyard ferry is just a hop away. I think you would be hard pressed to find a more peaceful, comfortable and beautiful place to stay anywhere on Cape Cod!

Unbelievable! One of the best houses I've ever stayed in!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this amazing house with my friends and family for a week and everyone remarked that it was one of the greatest houses they had ever vacationed in! The pictures don't even do it justice! The facilities were excellent. All the bedrooms are very comfortable and my guests did not feel at all cramped. There was even a bedroom on the first floor which was perfect for my grandmother so she wouldn't have to climb stairs. There are multiple refrigerators and it was easy to cook large meals for all 20 guests. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, and when it got cold at night we made fires in living room fireplace. The gigantic dining room/living room is incredibly unique. It's rare that an old Cape house has such a large open gathering space. Lee and Brian were incredibly accommodating hoss and they are very responsive to email and phone communication. All in all, we enjoyed the trip so much that my friends called me the day we got home and demanded that we make staying at here an annual summer event!

Classic Cape Cod

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a week with 11 adults at this beautiful old home. Very classic Cape Cod on the water with incredible views from main rooms and many bedrooms. The home was apparently built in 1927 and still retains many family mementos, artwork, books, etc. These certainly add to it's charm. It is incredibly warm and inviting. There is room for everyone to be together or spread out. It is impeccably clean and certainly the best stocked VRBO we have ever stayed. It even had two huge pots to boil lobsters outdoors for our last night there - and the lobster bibs and little heated butter cups to make it perfect. What fun to sit out on the patio while the lobsters were prepared enjoying the beautiful sea view then enjoying a dinner at an incredibly large table inside with table cloth and candles. Later, we could fall asleep listening to the waves.

The location is very close to Woods Hole to catch the ferry to Martha's Vinyard and easy access to the rest of the Cape. Some of our group even made a day trip to Newport Rhode Island to see the mansions.

Small caveat - and not an issue for us - there is only one walk in shower (there is a tub as well) and one bedroom on the main floor. The other showers are tub showers - on the second floor and just a tub on the third floor. If someone has limited mobility, that might be a consideration.

I would love the opportunity to stay at this wonderful home again. It was everything i hoped it would be and the owners were very helpful and communicated very well. We will all have many wonderful memories of our time at Olcottage.

What an amazing property!! I stayed at Olcottage during the week of my wedding with some family and friends and we had the best time there. Since my now husband and I live in Oregon and we were getting married in Falmouth, we were looking for a place to stay that was close to our wedding venue and that could accommodate us and our closest out of town friends and family - and just by staying there, it made our wedding week that much more special. We lucked out and had a few really nice days that allowed us to enjoy the private beach and have a bond fire. We had our rehearsal dinner there, and because it was cold that day, we were able to have it inside with no problem as the living room is nice and spacious. The house is beautiful, the view is gorgeous, and everything about that property is wonderful. We got to meet Lee and Heather, which were both so welcoming and friendly. Everyone was amazed by the house and how good it felt in just being there. I look forward to going staying there again one of these days!
