About Mary Ann Walters

We live in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and enjoy hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Extended family members in Cancun have been a big help and inspiration to us in finding, building and maintaining our beachfront property in Pueto Morelos, Mexico.

Mary Ann Walters purchased this house in 1999

Why Mary Ann Walters chose Puerto Morelos

We vacationed several times in the wintertime in Cancun, and loved the climate, the ocean, and the hospitality of the Mexican people. Friends we made there became extended family members.

We bought the raw beachfront land back in the eighties, and the building of Casa Martia was completed in time for January 2000, the Millenium!

What makes this house unique

Anything we need for our home or our guests is easy to get from either downtown Cancun or Playa del Carmen. There are great restaurants, small shops, doctor offices, pharmacy, store, and church right in Puerto Morelos, which is only 3 miles from our home. We love to walk the beach and can snorkel right in front of the house, weather permitting. We can get to town via a beach walk, or a road walk, or a short drive or bike ride. We like to prepare our own simple breakfasts and lunches at home, then go into town for a fresh seafood dinner, walk around town a bit, then enjoy the peace and quiet of our own pool and beach back at Casa Martia. The moonlight reflecting on the ocean is wonderful. We have an oasis of palm trees and flowering plants on our property, so songbirds are plentiful in the morning. Soft breezes, shady areas, a refreshing pool, privacy and the white sandy beach are all very relaxing. The attractions like Mayan ruins, botanical gardens, cenotes, are all a short drive away from home. Xel Ha, Tulum, Xcaret, Tres Rios, golfing, shopping, fresh seafood!

Good Time at Casa Martia

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a terrific time at the Casa Martia. Having access to a private beach with all the amenities of a home was great. Martha picked us up from the airport and tidied up twice during our week long stay and Jose the caretaker was always nearby to watch over our the casa. A previous reviewer mentioned a theft but we felt very safe and agree with subsequent commenters that this was an anomaly. Also there's a hotel type safe in one of the bedrooms but we never used it. The local restaurant scene was very good and the little town of Puerto Morelos had everything we needed to restock during the week. A definite plus was that Martha will buy groceries before you arrive if you e-mail the owners a list. She's a great cook too so you should consider having her make you dinner (which will be waiting when you arrive). We took a trip to Cancun one evening for dinner and once to Playa del Carmen. Both were fun but it was good to get back to the peace and quiet of Casa Martia and Puerto Moreles. You can bike ride the beach road from Casa Martia easily to Puerto Moreles. They had several bikes there, two of which were brand new. Also, don't underestimate the little zoo that is right near the casa. It's quite impresssive. All in all, it was a great time and the owners of the property were very helpful in answering our questions before the trip.

Great Property, well maintained. You can hear the ocean at night! Perfect for 3 couples or family stays! Far enough from town, but close enough to enjoy it as well. Has everything to feel at home, cooking, bbq, mixing drinks, internet, even an extra freezer for Ice!

The place was great, so big! The ocean is steps away and breathtaking. It was windy so couldn't do much swimming in the ocean or at least we didn't brave it. So close to town an hour walk by beach and or a quick drive. I would recommend a rental car. Puerto Morelos is a great little town, and we even drove in Cancun really is a central place to stay

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Martia! Walking the beach to town is one of my favorite things to do, too. Puerto Morelos is a peaceful home to return to after a day trip of exploring Cancun, Tulum, or Playa. We appreciate your kindness to our Staff and we hope you return again in the future!

Peace quiet and serenity

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have been coming to this place for 4 years now and we absolutely LOVE it!! You have your own privacy your own pool and the ocean just steps away from the Casa door! You are close to Cancun and to Playa Del Carmen all have lots for kids to do! I would highly recommend this place for people with children as well without its well worth it! Don Jose the caretaker lives right there he is the most loving caring human being doesn't speak English well but that doesn't stop him from anything! I recommend renting a car but there is cabs within the resorted area which is walking distance from the Casa!

Beachside vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our family stayed at Casa Martia for a week. Jose, who lives on the grounds, is lovely: he takes pride in keeping the grounds well-maintained and secure all while being gracious but unobtrusive.

The home is large and right on the beach with a small pool suited to families with children. You are just down the beach from several all-inclusive resorts but we felt like we were away from all Spring break crowds. Puerto Morelos has great restaurants and a very relaxed vibe - very different from either Cancun or Playa del Carmen and we really liked that. And the snorkeling was the best I have ever experienced.

The house seemed strangely stuck in the past: the guidebooks on the shelves were several years old as were magazines and DVDs - even the entries in the guestbooks. I don't know what that was about but it was a bit odd.

All in all, we were very happy with our time there.

Quiet, relaxing and we'll kept

  • 4 of 5

We found this place by doing lot of research on line. We are 2 couples who have travelled all over Mexico and Costa Rica staying houses/Condos. We got here on a Sunday and we're met by Don Jose who was a gentlemen, but make sure you have Google translator handy. His English is as bad as our Spanish. Alex the manager was a great help and helped us out with a lot of things. I just wish that we had known his wife would have cooked us supper.

This house is well planned out for a lay out. It is fairly well maintained, but of course being next to the ocean things corrode. We had issues with shower heads. I am sure they will be changed.

The location was ideal as we Scuba dive and right next door is the diving lodge run by Luis probably one of the best dive shops I have been to.

It is a ways into town so make sure you have the groceries you need. The walk along the beach is about 1 hour. The restaurants in town are all reasonably priced. We went to different ones each night.

Watch the cab drivers they will try and charge you more, but they will negotiate. A trip to the Chedraui. Is 120 pesos then down town from there is 30 pesos. Or 200 pesos to town.

If your looking for adults only or a family vacation this is the place. The outside area was ideal. Great bbq. The kitchen is well stocked with cutlery.

The swimming in the ocean is not too great, you have to watch for the coral. However if you swim in front of the dive shop there are lots of sand spots.

Overall we had a great time apart from some small issues. I would recommend this place to friends. Oh and the SKY TV was excellent even has kids channels.
