This was our second stay with Box Hop (at a different house). Our first experience over Thanksgiving week was great, so we came in with high expectations—unfortunately, this stay was a major letdown.
Missing items + inaccurate house info: The house manual stated there were gray towels for the hot tub. We couldn’t find them anywhere. We texted the property manager, who told us where they “should” be, but they were still not there. We ended up having to get a code to the cleaner’s closet and retrieve them ourselves. We also asked about using the wood-burning stove/fireplace and were told there would be a white bag of supplies next to the fireplace—there wasn’t. We had to leave and drive to buy what we needed. Neither of these would have been a big deal if this had been the only issue.
Roof leak for hours: On Friday, while we were eating lunch and enjoying the house, the roof started leaking. For multiple hours, we had to catch water in pans, move our belongings, and manage the leak ourselves. We notified the property manager and didn’t get a response for hours. The only response we received was that someone would check it on Monday—after we had already checked out—so we were essentially told to deal with it.
Laundry ruined: The worst part happened Friday night. We did laundry before checkout, and when we removed our clothes from the dryer, every single item was covered in blue detergent/grease-like stains (clearly coming from the washer). Our clothing is ruined.
I emailed the owner/company after checkout to give them the opportunity to address this privately, and did not receive a response (it has now been 4 days). I’m leaving this review so future guests are aware. The house itself is cute, and we wanted to love it, but the missing essentials, the major maintenance issue, the delayed/insufficient response, and especially the ruined clothing made this stay unacceptable.
