This is my home when I am in Paris. It can be yours for a week or two or even a month. It is located in one of the most beautiful mansions of the ile Saint Louis the ”Hotel Charron” built in 1640 to house the wealthy Charron family, which is today registered as a historical monument with the Ministry of Culture.

The apartment is two floors up (sorry no elevator, but the Ministry of Culture would not permit that) and measures 100 sq. meters (over 900 sq. feet). Its six windows facing west overlook a garden with beautiful roses and hydrangeas and receive plenty of sunshine. In addition, small windows high up on the eastern wall (called “jours de souffrance”) let the morning sun brighten the living room.

The apartment is composed of a large beamed living room/dining room and two bedrooms (also beamed) one of which contains a queen size bed and the other one two twin beds. There is also one bathroom with bathtub and shower and a washer dryer, and a fully equipped kitchen. Both the bathroom and kitchen have been newly renovated.

The ile Saint Louis is in the center of Paris, five minutes on foot from Notre Dame on the ile de la Cité, also a short walk from the Sorbonne in the Quartier Latin on the left bank and the Louvre on the right bank. You can also stroll on the river banks at the foot of the building and much more.

The surrounding streets are full of restaurants and people, and very lively especially during the tourist season, but when you are tired of the crowds you can return home where everything is peaceful and you will hear only the birds in the garden under your windows. It is very bright all day long and very comfortable with two sofas on which you can slouch in front of the fireplace while watching the evening news on CNN, BBC or the European networks, and it is beautifully furnished with family heirlooms (a XVth century chest, a Louis XVI writing table, beautiful prints etc…). The dining table in the living room sits easily six persons so you can even invite your friends for dinner if you so desire. And a small table in the kitchen will permit you to have your breakfast in the kitchen if you prefer that.

The closest subway station is Pont Marie, just over the bridge, but a five minutes walk will take you to other metro stations and bus stops.

You can call all over France and certain other countries for free (except for cell phones [any number starting with 06 in France] and numbers starting with 08 for which there is a charge) from the telephone in the apartment, and there is a Wi-Fi connection if you are traveling with your computer.

I only ask you to be a good neighbor and not give loud parties and also not to smoke or bring a pet.

I purchased my apartment in 1968 when I still lived year round in Paris. Any Parisian dreams of living on the Ile St Louis, but when I visited the Quai de Bourbon, I knew that I had found that dream. First it is in the heart of the old city where I could walk to every place that counts: the Louvre, the jardin du Luxembourg, the quays along the Seine, the old streets of the Marais, St Germain des Prés and the Latin quarter, shopping, cinemas… and at the same time I could find complete quiet at home.

What makes this apartment unique

Now I spend most of my time either with my children and grand children who live in the United States or in my country house in the mountains of central France. But I do reserve a few weeks for Paris when I am in France. Sometimes, if I have a very busy day there and I am so happy to get back to the quiet of my apartment in the evening. And sometimes, I simply stay home for the pleasure of being in this gorgeous place. It is so roomy and sunny. My friends love to come and visit me there and we either go out and have a meal in one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood or we have dinner at home around my dinner table that can sit 8. I never tire of it

All of Ile St Louis is attractive and most buildings date from the XVIIth or XVIIIth century, but a few are particularly beautiful. Hotel Lambert, at the eastern tip of the island is the best known, but Hotel Charron, where my apartment is located is close second

Historic Building in a Great Location

We stayed at this property in July 2017 and really liked the stay. The location was perfect for what we wanted to see and do in Paris. The only hiccup we had was that when we got to the property no one was there. I made a call to the owner and she very quickly responded. Someone was there within a few minutes. She also gave us a reduced rate on our first night for our inconvenience, which was a nice surprise.

Something to keep in mind for those from the US. In France there is a ground floor then the first floor then the second floor. So the second floor is what Americans would say is the third floor. I mention this because we knocked on the wrong door when we first arrived. The lady that was there was very nice and told us we needed to go one more flight of stairs.

Something to keep in mind if you are from the Southern U.S and used to air conditioning, very few places in France seem to be air conditioned (at least that was our experience). We traveled throughout France for 11 days and none of the places we stayed were air conditioned and only one restaurant had it. While the apartment could be a little on the warm side during the heat of the day, it cooled down at night and we slept well.

We loved our stay on Ile St. Louis. There is a nice wine shop, cheese shop and bakery within a block as well as great restaurants. There is also a bicycle rental place within easy walking distance and the bike ride to the Effiel Tower was fun.

We found the people in the area to be friendly. Late evenings we sometimes grabbed a bottle of wine and sat by the river, which is literally across the street, watching the boats go by. Very enjoyable stay.

Fantastic! Once in a lifetime experience!

If you truly want to experience Paris and it's rich historic tapestry, this is the place for you! A spacious apartment with aLOT of light and huge windows and all amenities of modern world! This wonderful apartment is walking distance to everything , Notre Dame, restaurants, market, boulangerie, all just on Rue St Louis!

Stairs require you to be in good health but they are worth the climb!

Only detractor was that there were not enough lights inside the apartment ... several light bulbs were burned out. I called to have them replaced but they were not replaced. Oh well ... not such a big deal in this City of Light, but a response would have resulted in 5 stars instead of 4.

Will definitely stay here again!

Large, light apartment in great location

We had a great stay in this nice apartment. Communication with Delphine was excellent and she was very accommodating to permit us to check in early when our flight arrived in the morning.

The apartment is great mixture of historic and modern with high ceilings, beautiful woodwork and more modern kitchen and bathroom. However, the best thing about the apartment is the location on Ile Saint Louis. The island itself is wonderful and so central that you can walk to many places in Paris from Notre Dame to the Louvre or the Marais. It is also very central for metro stations, RER, and the batobus. Ile Saint Louis itself has many amenities including bakeries, cheese shops, grocery store and local cafes with both Left Bank and Right Bank shopping and restaurants a short walk away.

No place is perfect for everyone and there are a couple of things to be aware when deciding if this apartment is right for you. It is located on the second floor of a historic building and the last few steps to the apartment are very steep and narrow. By staying here, you get a taste of what it is like to live in Paris and this does include noise from sirens, church bells and neighbours if the windows are open.

We have stayed in 3 different places on Ile Saint Louis in the last 2 years and I would certainly choose to stay in this apartment again.

Excellent location

The location of this apartment is fantastic. Quick walk to Notre Dame, hop-on/hop-off bus stop, batobus, etc. Shopping for food is easy and friendly. Great meat market, wine shop, bakeries, grocery store, etc. Local cafes are wonderful for a coffee, drink, meal, and people watching. Lots of excellent restaurants within 3 minutes walk from the doorstep.

On the negative side...it is up three flights of very tricky stairs. This does add charm, but is also challenging. The kitchen was pretty well stocked but we needed some basic things like garbage bags, hand soap, tea towels, wash clothes, a working water kettle, etc. There needs to be instructions on how to use the washer/dryer properly. There is NO view of Notre Dame despite the photo on the site showing one. Beds are really hard.

Even with all of the negatives, we loved this place! We lived in Paris for a week. That's pretty hard to beat.

Wonderful place

We stayed at Delphine's beautiful apartment earlier last month and couldn't have picked a better spot for our family vacation! The location is amazing - just one short block from the Seine, and you can hear the bells of Notre Dame. Just enchanting!!

The apartment has a comfortable living/dining space and is equipped with a television. The bathroom is well appointed with tile and the shower is very good. No problem with lack of hot water or poor water pressure.

The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and a combination washing machine/dryer which we were able to use easily.

Our children - ages 21 and 23 - were very comfortable in the front bedroom in the twin beds. Each bedroom is sizeable and our bedroom in the back had a very comfortable queen sized mattress.

When we arrived we were met by a wonderful young man who gave us a detailed tour of the apartment and also directions to the local market.

We loved staying in the 4th - there were so many wonderful places to eat - we just popped into the local cafes - no reservations needed - and enjoyed delicious meals. The nightlife in the 4

th was fun too- great people watching!

All in all staying at the apartment was a wonderful experience! Delphine took very good care of us and made our family's first trip to Paris a memorable one! Merci Delphine!!

I Was Offered A Bribe NOT To Write This Review - No Management, No Maintenance, No Communication!

1. No one met us with keys when we arrived at the agreed time and the owner, who had not given me a telephone number, did not respond to emails during the 90 minutes we waited.

2. The building's "gardienne," when told that we were going to a hotel, called the owner and gave us a key to get in. The apartment had not been cleaned following the last tenant's stay and was filthy (still-dirty dishes in the dishwasher, spillage in the refrigerator, food-encrusted place mats, scum in the bathroom, used sheets on the bed, dust everywhere...) and poorly maintained (broken towel rack, clogged drain, intimidating stains on sofas, lights/lamps not working...).

3. The "gardienne" gave me the owner's phone number and, when I called, she said someone would come to clean the apartment. A man arrived and stayed three hours doing a basic cleaning but did not have any supplies -- toilet paper, paper towels, sponges, dish soap... -- usually included when I rent an apartment at this price. We went shopping at 8 pm.

4. There were no written instructions in the apartment so we had no idea whether we could use the phone, how the heat works, if the television works (the cleaner could only find two French channels), etc.

5. At noon the next day a man, who said he ran a rental agency and was doing the owner a favor, arrived with more sheets/towels. He said one of his clients, a well-known US film director, "would kill me if his apartment looked like this when he arrived." He said someone would return that afternoon to repair the lights, towel rack and drain; remove the sofa stains, provide clean place mats etc; and reimburse me 30 euros for the supplies we bought.

6. At six pm, 26 hours after our arrival, an employee came by but, besides being unable to change a light bulb or fix a lamp or give me 30 euros or repair anything else, asked "What do you want to not write a bad review about this apartment?" I told him that I do not take bribes. He insulted me and my partner and we asked him to leave.

7. I sent the owner/agency three emails, including one in French, about this lamentable situation and she/he NEVER replied or bothered to inquire about our stay, although she did offer to reimburse the first night's stay when we spoke on day two. Like the 30 euros, I don't have that payment.

This unprofessional and lamentable lack of management, maintenance and communication is unfortunate because the location and appartment would be ideal in normal circumstances.

Owner's Response: It is my sincere regret that you have so many complaints about your experience at my property.  Unfortunately, I was out of town at the time of your stay, and the team set up to manage my place in my absence got their wires crossed on the dates of your arrival; and therefore my apartment was not prepared.  I emphatically say that it should not have happened. I was horrified which is why my immediate reaction was to offer you one free night as an apology for the two hours you had to wait after a long and tiring trip". This is the only true part in your comments. I know it is bad enough, however the rest of you comments is pure fiction... or maybe a pack of lies as retaliation because I refused to offer you a whole week for free, which is what you wanted. As you mentioned in the last sentence of your review “the location  and apartment would be ideal in normal circumstances”;  and  I couldn’t agree with you more; and unfortunately the circumstances were out of my control.  Hopefully, all the other outstanding reviews indicate that experiences like yours have never happened before, and I can assure my future guests, it will never happen again.
