Located AT THE TOP of the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, this penthouse unit has panoramic views to the east (Diamond Head) and to the west (Waikiki), not to mention the ocean, mountain and park views. Some have likened it to a crows nest due to the outstanding views.

Why Jan Davis chose Honolulu

There is no nicer place on earth than the Oahu Gold Coast with the Pacific Ocean, Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head Crater all at your doorstep. This is a neighborhood with a real community feel. People use the park for family picnics and daily exercise like Tai Chi and Yoga. There are only three hotels in this area and about half of the Diamond Head Beach Hotel building is residential, which contributes significantly to the quiet, neighborhood feel.

The weather is generally 80 degrees, the ocean is clear and inviting, the trade winds gently blow, and the local cultural & ethnic diversity is enviable. Where else can you have all of that and still be in the safety of the United States with immense military presence?

PLUS Kahala Mall is really close by and has everything one needs in life (Whole Foods, California Pizza Kitchen, Apple Store, Macy's and the Movie Theaters). No need to get stuck in traffic -- which is another reason to let me help you with logistics since I have ~ 10 years of Logistics experience with Intel.

Leave your cares and car at home. Take the elevator to the ocean and enjoy a soft salt-water dip in a calm clear blue ocean. Renew your commitment to health with a walk around Kapiolani Park. Or hike to the top of Diamond Head Crater for a breath taking view of Waikiki and Honolulu. Relax in the shade of a giant banyan tree with gentle trades and the mesmerizing ebb and flow of the Pacific ocean. Walk to the Waikiki Aquarium, the Honolulu Zoo or the International Market Place in Waikiki. Savor the flavors of excellent food and fine dining in our ocean front neighborhood restaurants.

PLUS my unit is squeaky clean, stylishly decorated, efficiently and thoughtfully laid out (I'm using my guests' words here) and it is likely equal to, or better than, that which you have at home. As a friend once said 'Why would I want to stay where I get less than what I have at home?' Makes sense, right?

Nice location, clean little place

Pros: nice location slightly away from all the hussle and bustle of Waikiki but still within walking distance to everything. Great view of Diamondhead right out your door and the views of the ocean on either side of the bed are pretty nice! Clean place, stocked with cups and utensils and normal kitchen stuff. The bed was super comfy, nice sheets and pillows. Little fridge was ample for two of use for the week, as we ate out. They supplied beach towels, the wifi was great and tv has cable for when you are relaxing. Nice place for two people MAX.

Cons: I dont know that the word "Penthouse" is justified. Its not on the top floor and the studio is extremely small. NOTE: If you are not EXTREMELY comfortable with the person you travel with, this place would not be for you as the bathroom is basically in the kitchen/closet and bathroom doesnt really have real privacy and there is no fan! The kitchen only has a plug in burner so dont plan on cooking unless you want to deal with that and no counter space, but we knew that ahead of time. The biggest problem we had was where to out our bags... there is litterally no place for them. We travel each with a small carry on and our dive gear. We tripped over our bags all week. Parking is not the greatest but doable.

I would like to say that the owner was super helpful and I was able to reach her when I was confused on how to get in (wrong code). Also, she checked in on us middle week and gave us recommendations on everything to do/eat. Very nice lady.

It really is nice, just super small.

Perfect, just Pefect!

Instructions were very specific regarding entrance to property. The place is immaculately clean. Every detail is thought of and anticipated by the owner for tourists and travellers whether it's there first time or regular Hawaii aficionados.

You get both worlds, the busy Waikiki Beach area on your right view and the serene calmness of Diamond Head on your left. Waikiki is just a short distance away. The owner had guide books, made wonderful suggestions for your itinerary and great restaurants!

Jan, the owner was accesible and responds immediately to requests and inquiries.

I would definitely recommend this propert to friends who love to travel alone, relax and bask in the Hawaiian culture.

Would definitely come back again. I love the coffee table books. As I said it was perfect, simply perfect!

Peaceful, Immaculate, Great Location

Maile was a little slice of paradise for me. I was traveling alone, meeting friends, and this place was perfect for me. I especially loved having the windows open on each side of the bed and enjoying a wonderful breeze all night long as well as the sounds of the ocean and majestic view of Diamond Head. Jan even had stocked the place with some welcoming goodies which were much appreciated since I got in later than expected. We have stayed in this building several times (other condos when the entire fam came) and recommend the grassy area that is adjacent to the ocean, a great place to eat breakfast or have a glass of wine to watch the sunset. It's an easy walk to Waikiki as well as to a number of eateries on Monserrat. There is a nice little minimarket less than a block away and a laundry in the garage. Downsides: Street parking is very limited in the daytime and the building's ice machine was broken (building manager said he would get around to having a serviceman come - island time, I guess). Of course neither of these were the owner's fault. I hope to stay here again when hubby and I return!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay and kind comments. A new Ice machine has been ordered for the the building and as we discussed ice cubes/trays are included in my unit's refrigerator. I'm sorry parking was an issue. A Satellite view on Google Maps shows plenty of parking out front and on Paki Avenue--which is generally available. We look forward your family's return to our slice of Paradise as soon as you can escape the mainland again! Aloha and A Hui Hou!

The perfect accommodations for a great Hawaii vacation.

The Maile Penthouse was a perfect place to stay and experience the best that Hawaii has to offer. The location is perfect and the accommodations were great. I stayed here 10 days and could have stayed forever. The almost 360 degree views and breezes were wonderful. For those who prefer a/c it was great to have that option. The large flatscreen tv was great too. Also, internet reliability & speed was great. The condo had everything needed for a great stay. The building- the Diamondhead Beach Hotel & Residences was a wonderful place with nice friendly people and a great Aloha spirit vibe. The ocean was right there and it was always nice to take an afternoon swim in the warm Pacific waters and then relax and dry off looking at the view from the patio area on the comfortable lounge chairs with a drink in my hand! I look forward to my next visit there. It was heaven! Jan the owner was gracious and helpful and a pleasure to meet. I enjoyed all the new friends I met there as well. :)

A dazzling perch in the sky over Waikiki, in the serene Gold Coast neighborhood.

The Maile Penthouse can make you forget the rest of the world. Atop one of the midcentury Gold Coast towers fringing the foot of Diamond Head, the Maile feels suspended between sea and sky. The lights of Waikiki sparkle outside one glass wall, while the green flanks of Diamond Head's iconic pyramid fill the other.

The apartment is efficiently laid out, with a comfortable bed facing a mirrored wall. There was a large flatscreen television, but I never felt the need to turn it on, preferring to spend evenings watching the sailing catamarans sweep past paddlers returning to the Outrigger Canoe Club next door. Likewise the air conditioning - I'm sure it works but the opportunity to sleep instead with trade winds carrying the sound of surf through the shutters was too appealing.

Jan has thoughtfully provided almost everything you need, from Wi-fi to washcloths. There are dishes, utensils, a coffeemaker, a hair-dryer, iron, bath and beach towels, and cleaning supplies. The refrigerator was stocked with drinks and snacks.

It's a short walk to central Waikiki's shops and restaurants, but I enjoyed many happy hours lounging on the lawn. Occasionally I'd slip into my flipflops to walk a few steps along the seawall and climb down the steel ladder into the warm surf.

The Maile's building, the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, is small and quiet, with a mix of rental condos and owner-occupied units. Every resident I met was friendly, helpful and pleasant. Living in paradise makes people happy.

It's not necessary to have a car on Oahu, as Uber, taxis and the excellent public bus system will get you almost anywhere on the island. The bus stops just a few steps from the Maile's building.

Jan was helpful and readily accessible. She provided all the information I needed in advance of the trip and quickly answered any questions I had while I was there.

I will absolutely return, the sooner the better.

Penthouse Views

As it was advertised, I have enjoyed this property twice now. It's South of all the mayhem of Waikiki. Open up the windows and enjoy the sounds of the ocean and the breeze flowing thru this single room suite. Very clean and surprisingly quite that close to Waikiki. Jan, the owner is very responsive without being intrusive. This is perfect for a couple wanting to get away for a long weekend that doesn't want to be annoyed by the hotel craziness. If you surf, you can surf right out in front.

I will be back again and highly recommend it for the price.

On the water and across from Kapolani Park where the Ali'i (royalty) used to spend their weekends at the polo fields, this park is now home to lots of locals doing healthy activities like soccer games and evening concerts at the Waikiki Shell. The Waikiki Aquarium and Honolulu Zoo are a short 10 minute walk away and a hike around and up Diamond Head will be calling to those who want an aerobic workout!
