Janet and I have always loved the mountains. This picture is our first 14-er we hiked Mt Sherman. We are from Florida originally, 5ft above sea level. Each year we would vacation out West. We found our piece of heaven in Fairplay Colorado and built our home in 2006. Our dogs adapted to the elavation better then we did. They love the outdoors and don't mind sharing it with other 4 legged friends.
Janet Kubetschek purchased this apartment in 2006
The mountain views are breath taking, especially at 10,200 elv. Beautiful views of Buffalo Peaks, Weston Pass Mountain Range and Pikes Peak. This is Mother Nature at her finest. We always feel like we are on vacation.
The wildlife that we see almost everyday is unbelievable. Moose, Bear, Coyote, Fox, Deer, Porcupine, Badgers and Elk. The Hummingbirds in the early spring through early fall. Amazing how such little creatures can migrate the distance they do and always seem to have so much energy. We enjoy them every year.
We stayed at Janet's apartment back in September of 2016. The three nights we spent there were wonderful! Janet was a super friendly, yet unobtrusive host.We loved her dogs, too!
The apartment itself was clean and cozy. I LOVED the cookies that were waiting for us when we got there. Although the apartment is located several miles away from major roads, that was part of its allure. Despite its privacy, it's not far from some of our favorite parts of Colorado, including Buena Vista and Cottonwood Pass. There were also many great hikes within a short driving distance.
We were so happy to find this gem the last time we were in Colorado. We make it to Colorado at least once a year - it's one of our favorite places. I know that we'll be back to see Janet and her wonderful apartment!
Me and my dogs stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time relaxing and enjoying the wonderful scenery and sounds of nature. Janet was a wonderful host she helped me get my 140+ pound dog up the stairs (I didn't know he would be afraid to go up them) we tried many different ways to lure him up the stairs but we ended up pushing/pulling him up, she was very willing to help and was very friendly and made sure that we had what we needed. All the windows in the apartment had spectacular views, and at night it was gorgeous to see all the stars. Would definitely recommend!
This is a roomy, comfortable apartment, with all amenities as described. Janet is a great host. My terriers and I used this as a base to climb numerous 14ers; the Mt. Sherman trailhead is just a short drive away, and heading towards Breck there's some great backcountry. And don't forget the Buffalo Peaks trailhead just down the road; those are the peaks you see to the SW. In the immediate area of the house there are bristlecone pines and abundant wildlife. The dogs had a lot of fun chasing chipmunks and squirrels through the wood piles. A couple of nights, I could hear coyotes baying close by. Great place.
Had a wonderful winter here !! Cabin has everything you need . My two dogs and I had a fun time . Hoosier pass stays open so getting to ski resorts no problem recommend 4x4 when needed . Wild life galore !! The owners are great people lots of fun !! All the dogs got along great. Can't wait to come back in the summer !!!!
Our family of 4 (2 teenagers) and a dog had an awesome time in this cabin! Janet is a wonderful host and treated us like family. She gave us as much privacy as we wanted, but she is a hoot and we invited her to a grilled fish dinner one evening on her deck. We also enjoyed several Bon fires with her and another friend. The drive up CR5 is charming with little to no traffic, which was awesome. Road is maintained, no prob for 2 wheel drive. As we drove up her aspen-lined road, it opened up to her Beautiful cabin. The apartment is very charming, sqeaky clean, and comfortable. It had everything we needed. I enjoyed my coffee every morning at the top of the stairs while watching dozens of hummingbirds come to the feeder. We are a fishing family and there are many lakes to choose from within a 30 mile radius. Easy to get to. Of course shopping in Dillon and Breckinridge is close too, which my teenage daughter liked! The views from the cabin are everything to be expected in the mountains. Looked like a painting. We stayed a week, and have been home a few days and I already miss that place. Great value. Book it!
This apartment was fantastic! It was stocked with everything you could ever want/ need (down to coffee filters and dish TV!). My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week. It is set against a beautiful mountainous backdrop. Very quiet. We're from a big city and the still was something we have never fully experienced until our stay in Fairplay. Our hostess was wonderful. Our first night she walked us through the ends and outs of the apartment. She even provided us a landline to use since we were out of cell service (how thoughtful!). I wholeheartedly recommend this property. One thing to keep in mind is the distance from the apartment to major attractions.
