Look out at the sea from your Fraile vacation rental
The district of Fraile occupies the eastern side of Culebra, and is best known for its long stretches of white sandy beach. Explore Fraile's underwater world
If you can muster the energy to drag yourself off the beach – trust us, it's harder than it looks – you'll want to spend at least half a day exploring the colorful underwater world. You'll never be far away from someone who's offering snorkel adventures when you stay at a Fraile vacation rental, and the coral reefs which teem with colorful creatures shouldn't be missed. Afterwards, you could take a little walk across the island, rent some kayaks to explore the coast, or simply return back to your position on the beach, sipping from a freshly-cut coconut.
Endlessly blue skies in Fraile
Deciding when to go to Puerto Rico can be a little tricky. The endless blue skies and winter sun have long drawn in the punters, but this drives the price up. On the other hand, the summer rains see the fewest tourists and so prices nosedive. If you're looking for a happy medium, try to score a Fraile vacation rental between April and June. You'll be treated to long stretches of empty beach before the annual downpours and arguably a more comfortable climate, not to mention a much more attractive price on rentals.
Fraile is famous for the dance of the booby
The dry sub-tropical forests and mangroves on Culebra make up the Mount Resaca, one of the oldest refuges established in the early 20th century. The 600 hectares protect dozens of seabird species, including tropicbirds and boobies. More migrating birds find this tiny dot in the ocean every year to breed and look after their young. Just be sure to pack the binoculars. That's by no means everything you'll see. The underwater world is a treasure trove of fascinating discoveries, where you'll likely see harmless little sharks and graceful eagle rays in the clear waters.

The nearest airport is in Cyril E. King Airport (STT), located 19.1 mi (30.7 km) from the city center. If you're unable to find a flight that fits your schedule, you could also fly into Culebra (CPX-Benjamin Rivera Noriega), which is 2.8 mi (4.6 km) away.
