Vacationing in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington? There's just nothing better. Our quiet lifestyle, the views, the whales, the golfing, the boating, the theater, and best of all - the weather.

'Sunny San Juans' is how many people refer to our area, and with good reason. Although we are located near Puget Sound in Western Washington, which receives anywhere from 20 to 50 inches of rain per year, the San Juan Islands are unique in that, they occupy an area known as the 'banana belt' or the 'rain shadow of the Olympics'.

Through a combination of meteorological phenomena, air blowing inland from the Pacific Ocean from the southwest loses most of its moisture on the western slopes of the Olympic Mountains, where the annual rainfall can be as high as 200 inches per year. By the time the air reaches us, most of the moisture is gone and we end up receiving about 20 to 25 inches per year. San Juan Island enjoys an average of 247 days of sunshine per year.

In addition to the island's weather and natural beauty, there are plenty of activities including a 9-hole golf course, acres of parks and miles of walking trails, marinas, restaurants, and shopping. Not without mention, the waters of the Puget Sound offer extraordinary scenery for kayaking, whale watching, diving and boating.

To provide adequate supervision, one adult per child please!

About Ken & Bonnie Sliger

Ken & Bonnie Sliger arrived on San Juan Island in April of 1989 coming from a very small coastal town in Oregon. We have just celebrated our 34th anniversary. We have four sons (along with 4 terrific daughter-in-laws) and as of this writing 10 grandchildren.

Ken & Bonnie Sliger purchased this house in 2000

Why Ken & Bonnie Sliger chose Friday Harbor

We choose this location for our home, of the last 9 years, because of the close proximity to the San Juan County Golf Course. Step out your Master Bedroom door and you're on the first fairway. Drive the golf cart to the club house. Relax on the patio and watch the golfers. It's serene, peaceful and extremely relaxing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Very pleasant and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

The owner's are exceptional and live right next door if we had any questions etc..

The property is located in what was a perfect location for us, a few minutes from Friday Harbor and very near the road to Roche Harbor.

The home is incredibly spacious and one was the only property we were able to locate with much needed air conditioning. We stayed for six of the hottest days of the summer and needed the air to sleep at night.

We couldn't recommend the owner's, Ken and Bonnie more highly. Wonderful people!

Family of seven and it was great!

We love the island and this made the experience even better. Did have to try to manage finding and the cost of three hotel rooms. Everything you need was here, just bring people and food!

Beautiful and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this home on the 1st Fairway. We had 4 adults and 3 children ages 17, 15 and 11. The home is beautiful and very clean with a well stocked kitchen. We also used the grill for our nightly dinners. The beds were super comfy and offered a quiet environment. Our family enjoyed the 2nd level entertainment area, playing cards and watching The Sherlock Holmes Series. The guys played golf 2 days. My 15 year old is a dog lover and enjoyed daily visits with Porshe and Piper. The home is 5 min from Friday Harbor which offers grocery shopping, fun stores and restaurants. It's very convenient to the Ferry, Zip Line tours, and bike and scooter rentals. You can rent a bike or scooter to get around the island. We saw a pod of Orca Whales an visited the Lavender farm. A car is not needed for an enjoyable island experience. We spent 5 days in busy Seattle and then headed to San Juan Island. This home was the perfect ending to our Washington vacation. Thank you!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

Loved your home. It was so comfortable and the bathroom arrangement was great for the 3 couples and one single. The beds were very nice and it was so quiet. A great place for families! The owners were delightful and lived just down the road. They came to our rescue and brought over a baby gate for the stairs, they even brought fasteners so it would be secure! Thanks for a wonderful 4th of July family reunion! We will be coming back!

Family retreat

  • 5 of 5

The house is very nice, even more than we expected.

We had 7 people and 1 dog and there was more than enough room.

Nala, our goldendoodle, had a great time playing with the Porsche and Piper.

There is a lot to enjoy in the San Juan's and this was a nice house to come back to at the end of the day.

Everything we needed for a relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family rented this home for a vacation over the 4th of July weekend. There were 3 couples, a single and a pug. And we had a wonderful time. First of all, the owners were incredibly helpful and accommodating, particularly with check in & check out (there happened to not be guests staying on the days on either side of our trip). Also, the house has everything you need for a great stay - we cooked in almost every night and used the barbeque as well. The view of the golf course is incredibly relaxing and all the patio / outside space is great for reading a book in the sun with a mojito. It is about a 5 minute drive to town, probably 45 to an hour walk, but we liked being away - it definitely helped feel relaxed.

The house itselft is set up well for large groups - 3 bathrooms that each have a shower was great for us. Onsite laundry was incredibly convenient.

The only constructive feedback our group had was for better reading light in the living room. Other than that, this was a perfect place for a relaxing time away from Seattle at a very reasonable cost. Would highly recommend.
