About Joan and Harry Valentine

We have enjoyed St. John for more than 40 years, and purchased our property in 1978. Lagoon Point was built in the early 1980's and features sensational views described below. We love the beaches, snorkeling, fishing, hiking and star gazing from our deck. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of St. John.

Joan and Harry Valentine purchased this house in 1978

Why Joan and Harry Valentine chose Coral Bay

Lagoon Point has one of the best views on the island of St. John!~ A unique fringing coral reef, a lagoon, and a salt pond combine with spectacular views across Coral Bay of the National Park, East End of St. John, Flannagan, Pelican, and LeDuck Island, including several British Virgin Islands: Mt. Sage on Tortola, Norman and Peter Islands. Across the Caribbean Sea, St. Croix can be seen 35 miles away.

What makes this house unique

From our deck, enjoy bird watching, marine life in the lagoon, ever changing colors of Coral Bay by day, stellar stargazing and the sound of gentle surf by night. Peaceful and relaxing. A great place to unwind!

Thanks

At Skinny's we had the best seat

Key lime pie in the tropical heat

With art for lost "soles"

And friendly Hellos,

Chris and Company served up a hot beat.

Of calabash, mambo and gum

We learned to identify some.

Bright coral; fast fishes

Miss Lucy's great dishes

And not too much punch with the rum.

Great memories we have more than a few

Daily dips, and your deck---what a view!

Where pelicans fly by

At the height of your eye;

The sea every possible blue.

Tranquil home with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just stayed at Lagoon Point for the week. We met Joan and Harry last year while dancing at Skinny Legs and are so grateful for the fortuitous encounter. The house has stunning views and wonderful outdoor showers. It's situated close to Coral Bay, but also tucked away so that it feels remote. The narrow driveway can be a bit tricky to navigate, but they've just added an additional parking area where you can turn around. All in all, we can't say enough about what a wonderfully relaxing week we had at this home.

Great view; well appointed house

  • 5 of 5

The chance to enjoy the view, wind, and sounds of the night critters at this house was transformative. Everything at the house itself was just right - comfy bed, enough in the kitchen to cook, relaxed sitting area indoors. The open air showers in the bathroom is something I will look forward to if we return, which I hope we do. We had everything we needed, even Band-Aids.

Peaceful, serene getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I vacationed at Lagoon Point for one amazing week in July with two very dear relatives. The hilly location was lovely; the 180-degree view from the balcony was incredible--watching the sunrises and sunsets over Coral Bay with the island of Tortola in the distance was divine.

There is no AC in the dwelling, but there are constant, cooling Tradewinds, so it is not a necessity. With the screened windows and sliding glass doors kept open (and ceiling fans running if desired), we were always comfortable. One thing we found quaint, charming and unique was the screened-in indoor/outdoor shower attached to the restroom. Loved it!

The kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes, utensils and cookware -- next time we visit, however, we will bring a pot scraper/spatula, as that was missing. We ate all our meals at home--brought a fair portion of the non-fresh food with us, as we knew food in the islands is 2-2.5 X the price we'd pay stateside.

There is plenty to do on the island; we rented a vehicle on St John and enjoyed exploring. There are numerous snorkeling destinations; recommend either bringing your own gear or renting from Crabby's, about a mile from the house. There are a few sets of fins and a leaky mask/snorkel in one of the closets--and several beach chairs if you want to use them!

It was not really the season to hike (warm during the day), but there are a lot of hiking trails to enjoy if your visit is in the fall/winter/spring seasons.

In summary, our stay was fantastic--the home was perfect for us, and we look forward to another vacation stay at Lagoon Point!

This was a great place to stay, quiet, fully equipped with everything we needed and the best view!

  • 5 of 5

The Valentines were so helpful and the key was in the door when we arrived. The driveway is really steep but from the house you have an amazing view, a constant breeze and good beds. The bathrooms are unique, and we loved the outdoor feel. We rented a jeep and snorkeled in every bay and beach we had time for then relaxed in this comfortable house! We all agreed it was a great week!

John and Marian

Spent 6 days in this beautiful home reconnecting with old friends. The owners obviously take great pride in their home...the landscaping, attention to detail, decks with tremendous views and well supplied cabinets proves that. The view of coral bay is spectacular. Nearby beaches and coves for snorkeling are second to none. Friday night at Skinny Legs with good food, drinks, music and dancing is not to be missed. The view from the deck, the comfort of the home and it's furnishings combined with the snorkeling and nearby beaches as well as visits to the nearby ruins of sugar plantations combine to give a memorable vacation. We would highly recommend Lagoon Point as a place to relax and get to know St John. Should we have the opportunity to return to St John, Lagoon Point would be our first choice.

Tranquil excitement

  • 5 of 5

Lagoon Point is a wonderfully maintained property situated on a high point that enables a tremendous view of Coral Bay in 3 directions. It is obvious the owners take great pride in both the house and landscaping by their attention to detail. Anticipating questions and information clients like myself may have or seek during their stay, they offered a virtual library of resources concerning the area. Everything worked as it should, including the Wi-Fi and wall mounted flat screen TV, although those certainly weren’t a priority for me in this place. The beds were comfortable, especially when I was lulled to sleep with the sounds of waves lapping the shore. The bathroom off the guest room had a Wow! factor because of the private and airy semi-outside shower. And yes, the water was nice and hot when desired! Relaxing on the deck in a lounge chair with your favorite juice, sky and water colors evolved with time and weather. The frequent trade wind breezes were refreshing and kept potential bugs away. I watched many pelicans, osprey, herons, egrets and other interesting birds dive for fish. The location provided easy access to all the amenities you would seek on St. Johns. Of course, I did plenty of snorkeling and beaching, as there are nearby options everywhere. Restaurants in Coral Bay itself were fun (and the food was good, too!) especially Skinny Legs and Shipwreck Landing. Hiking in the National Park and exploring sugar plantation ruins was especially interesting. On my first visit to St Johns, I was glad to have found and stayed at Lagoon Point. I highly recommend it!
