About this property

Large Family Lodge South of Breckenridge on quiet, wooded acreage

In Ski jargon, 'Black Diamonds' are the toughest ski runs and for experts only-- but you won't need to be an expert to enjoy this Rocky Mountain Luxury Alpine Lodge! At 10,300 feet, it is nestled in the heart of South Park.

You'll find the BDAL rivals fine European ski lodges and provides high end amenities without the crowded tourist feeling and high prices you will find only 17 miles away in Summit County and Breckenridge. Completely avoid the I-70 weekend & holiday traffic jams by taking US Highway 285 practically right to the house-- it is a breathtaking 1.5 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs. Convenient to major highways in snowy weather, (this is VERY important!) the BDAL is beautifully tucked into pine and aspen forests with huge views.

This is a custom built, luxury 5000 sq ft home overlooking the amazing Mosquito Mountain Range - huge views of Fourteeners right out your windows or from the private hot tub on the spacious patio! Perfect for entertaining, the gourmet kitchen invites you to host large families and friends.

The vaulted Great Room with large log scissor-trusses and a stone-surround wood-burning stove creates a fabulous resort lodge experience. Plenty of wood available!
The entire upper level is heated with radiant in-floor heat.
5 large bedrooms (4 kings/2 sets of bunks) and 3 large baths will easily accommodate 12-14.
The luxury master suite is an eye-popper-- see all the features listed below. Downstairs you'll find two more spacious bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with 2 sets of bunks (1 set memory foam full-size mattresses), and another large bath as well. The downstairs Great Room is an excellent entertainment area (Billiards, Foosball, Home Theater) to give you (and the kids!) room to spread out.

This 5 acre property has the remnants of a gold mine from the last century. There are several stocked fishing locations within 5 minutes drive. We've also cleared a ski/sledding run on the hillside above the parking pad. Hands down one of the nicest rental homes in South Park. You will find the BDAL to be an elegant retreat with a unique Rocky Mountain touch-- you'll want to come back again and again!

Things to do: ATVs are available to rent in the Fairplay area. You can also arrange horseback riding, fly fishing, hiking, dog sledding and white water rafting a short drive from the home. Biking is a big attraction in the summer. The Annual South Park Burro Race and street festival is very popular as well. In Feb each year, the Ice Sculptures in Breckenridge are truly spectacular. The activities in the area are almost limitless in all the seasons.

We have a regulation pickleball court on the parking pad for warm weather use. The net is in the garage. Bring your own paddles and balls.

Please note: please review the house rules. We have a no pets and no smoking policy. Violations will result in forfeiture of damage deposit. The water here is spectacular so no need for plastic bottles of water.

Extended Weekend Trip

Stayed 3 nights with a group of friends over an extended weekend. Overall we were very happy with the property: the sleeping arrangements were great, the hot tub/sauna were a huge hit, there was plenty of room to hangout/relax, and the property was only a few minutes from Fairplay which was extremely convenient.

Beautiful

Great home, it was a little far front the slopes. We actually got snow in one day and missed a day of skiing. Maybe come back in the summer months.

Everything you could want to make a group comfortable.

The owners were very easy to work with leading up to our trip and made themselves available for any issues that would have come about (we had none). Their home was wonderful, expansive, and you could tell, they paid attention to all the details. We were a group of guy friends, on our first ski trip out west and a few of us agreed, we would like to come again with our group or even another trip with our families (if they would have us).

Good Fit For Our Family

We recently stayed in this home the end of July and I can’t say enough good things about this property. It’s a beautiful home. It was a good fit for our family of 12. The layout gives everyone their personal space. The owners are very generous and easy to work with. The area offers a lot to do but not as hectic and crazy as some of the bigger more populated areas. If your thinking about this property, just go for it, you won’t be sorry, it is an awesome well maintained home.

College friends and families

We truly loved staying at this beautiful house in the woods! It was spacious and very well kept. Our teens kept busy with the pool table, foosball table, hot tub and sauna! We all cheered on the chiefs by streaming it on the internet and it worked great! The kitchen had every appliance and gadget we needed. The three couples each had large bedrooms upstairs, while the kids had a bunk room in the basement along with another nice queen room as well as a separate family room in the basement!! It was amazing and the house owner could not have been nicer about answering questions. They had the snow plowed each day, as we got lucky with loads of fresh snow. The drive to keystone did take about an hour, but the road was well maintained. Loved everything about this place!

All the best!

I rented out BDAL for my bachelorette party, which really ended up being an opportunity for friends to ski, enjoy beers and relax in the hot tub and sauna! BDAL has literally everything you could need on a vacation, and it's much comfier than the ski condos I've rented in places like Keystone and Breck. My out of town friends were so grateful for the vistas and I was just amazed at what a beautiful home I found. We also had a toddler in our party and there were all the things we needed for the baby which helped A TON with prep and packing. Teresa was really friendly and I thought the instructions she and the family provided helped make the weekend even more relaxing ... we didn't have to figure anything out. It's also great to be able to get to the mountains on 285 and avoid 70!! Wonderful experience, I don't see how you could be disappointed.

The property, in all aspects, was clearly above and favorably beyond the published brochure.

Our family, represented by three generations, selected this property to share the New Years 2019 Holiday together. Those interested and capable found the proximity to the Breckenridge and Vail ski trails satisfying while we of an older generation spent more time at the Black Diamond Lodge. The lodge itself provided all the amenities one, or in our experience, ten, could hope for. It provides a true family experience in a plan that provides privacy and yet with an open expansive feeling. The Black Diamond commercial kitchen provided the opportunity for family to share in camaraderie while preparing what we hoped to be gourmet quality nourishment. More big screens than were ever used allowed the spectrum of bowl games to be seen in nearly any room. The high level foosball table became a focal point while the billiards table became superfluous. The only negative was that a tall, 6'6" grandson found the bunkbeds uncomfortable and neither brother, sisters, parents or grandparents willing to concede their king and queen accommodations. As the Lodge is located a few miles distant from Breckenridge we expected the drive to the slopes and shopping to be difficult, reality was quite the opposite. The drive was no challenge although Route 9 was usually busy. Shopping at the City Market in Breckenridge or the even closer Prather's in Fairplay, provided all the necessities for our week. Our family gives the Black Diamond a Five Star rating.

Vacation of rest and restoration

We spent two weeks of comfort and connection together with friends in the middle of the mountains. The house was beautifully located with a property around that we can walk or bike to the nearby towns of Alma or Fairplay. We were driving distance to several 14ers, Breckenridge and even Colorado Springs. We liked the house, the wide open dining room was great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, BBQ, whatever. We played games, poker, pool table, foosball, and horseshoes. We used the jacuzzi and the sauna almost every day. They were amazing! The rooms were good. Four of us had our own rooms. Two had to share a bunk room. Overall good experience with everything we needed. Some of the lights were not working but the essential ones were.

Our family had an amazing stay at this home! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how clean, spacious, and well-equipped the house was. The photos don’t do it justice—it’s even more beautiful in person! The home had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Very nice home in Alma

We rented this home in Alma for our family of 11 for several nights. The home was well equipped for the size of our family. During our stay, we skied, played games and enjoyed the amenities of this rental. Fortunately, the owner was willing to allow us to use their sleds on the hill on the property (we did not know we had to bring our own sleds). One highlight from our trip was when a large moose strolled along the property. Thanks...

We are avid hikers and snowboard/skiiers who love to travel. We love our mountain home and hope you will care for it with the same concern and attention to detail that we do.

Why they chose this property

This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We enjoy the convenience of all the different kinds of mountain fun in our own front yard. While we are in the mountains, it only takes 2 mins to be on the hwy to Summit County. Your vehicle won't be stuck on a steep driveway during the snow months.

What makes this property unique

After a great day of skiing, skip the I-70 bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours to get home. We are in the middle of Fourteeners, gold medal fishing, biking, and hiking--God's country. Sledding hill in backyard.
