About the property

Gorgeous Rocky Mt Lodge, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10) - Gourmet Kitchen

In Ski jargon, 'Black Diamonds' are the toughest ski runs for experts only-- but you won't need to be an expert to enjoy this Rocky Mountain Luxury Alpine Lodge! At 10,500 feet, it is nestled in the heart of South Park. Western Frontier meets Elegance in this Gracious home.

You'll find the BDAL rivals fine European Ski Lodges and provides High End amenities without the crowded tourist feeling and high prices you will find only 17 miles away in Summit County and Breckenridge. Completely avoid the I-70 weekend & holiday traffic jams by taking US Highway 285 practically right to the house-- it is a breathtaking 1.5 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs. Convenient to major highways in snowy weather, (this is VERY important!) the BDAL is beautifully tucked into pine and aspen forests with huge views.

No tired, "dark cabin" with shabby furniture and small beds here, but 5800 sq ft of Custom Built Luxury overlooking the amazing Continental Divide - huge views of Fourteeners right out your windows or from the private hot tub! Perfect for entertaining the Gourmet kitchen - with Nespresso, Keurig and Drip Coffee Machines, 4 large bedrooms (3 kings) and 3 large baths will easily accommodate 10. The Luxury Master Suite is an eye-popper-- see all the features below for it, there is a second king suite upstairs. The Vaulted Great Room with large log scissor-trusses and a stone-surround wood-burning stove create a Fabulous Resort Lodge experience. Plenty of wood available! Downstairs you'll find 2 more spacious bedrooms, one with a King Bed and the other with 2 sets of bunks (1 set memory foam full-size mattresses), and another large bath as well. The downstairs Great Room is a Great Entertainment area (Billiards, Foosball, Home Theater) to give you (and the kids!) room to spread out.

This 5 acre property has the remnants of a gold mine from the last century, the water there even has two schools of Rainbow Trout (just for looking--no fishing please--they are just getting established! There are several stocked fishing locations within 5 minutes' drive.) We've also cleared a Ski/Sledding run on the hillside behind the house! Sleds & helmets and snow shoes provided. Hands down one of the nicest rentals in South Park. You will find the BDAL to be an Elegant Retreat with a unique Rocky Mountain touch-- you'll want to come back again and again!

Things to do: ATVs are available to rent in the Fairplay area. You can also arrange horseback riding and white water rafting a short drive from the home. Biking is a big attraction in the summer. The Annual South Park Burro Race and street festival is very popular as well. In Feb each year, the Ice Sculptures in Breckenridge are truly spectacular.

NOTE: If you plan on skiing, please check out the discounted early season pass rates at Snow.com which are only available from late Spring to Sept. An adult season pass runs around $500 with some black out dates but the current one day lift ticket is over $160. 4 days of skiing will pay for the pass and allow you to return to CO for more amazing skiing!

We will accept Paypal, checks, Echeck and you can book online through the VRBO website. Credit cards are welcome.

Why Chuck Brininstool chose South Central

This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We enjoy the convenience of all the different kinds of mountain fun in our own front yard. While we are in the mountains, it only takes 2 mins to be on the hwy to Summit County. Your vehicle won't be stuck on a steep driveway during the snow months.

What makes this lodge unique

After a great day of skiing, skip the I-70 bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours to get home. We are in the middle of Fourteeners, gold medal fishing, biking, and hiking--God's country. Sledding Hill in backyard.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Teresa, thank you so much for the use of your home. It is the most amazing, beautiful place I've ever stayed. You are truly lucky to own such a piece of paradise.

Enjoy the beauty of Breckenridge in total comfort!!!

VRBO Bear stayed here

Jan 24, 2016

The VRBO Bear had the pleasure to stay in this beautiful lodge with friends and family during a weekend ski trip to Colorado. I cannot say enough great things about this beautiful lodge and its friendly owners! Starting with the location… This lodge is located in a gorgeous scenic location just south of Breckenridge. It was close enough to be a short 20 minute drive to the ski slopes in Breck, but also far enough away to provide peace, privacy, and tranquility. Surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains, the lodge had an amazing mountain view right out the front window. There was plenty of amazing scenery and wildlife surrounding the lodge. We saw a few foxes and even a moose just down the road. The lodge was gorgeous and well taken care of. It was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. It was well equipped with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We spent the days skiing the slopes of Breckenridge and then came home to relax in the warm hot tub. In the evenings, we cooked a nice dinner in the fully equipped kitchen and then enjoyed some relaxation in front of the fireplace in the family room. We also enjoyed the game room downstairs where we played billiards on the pool table. During the day, a few members of our group enjoyed snow-shoeing, hiking, and sledding on the trails surrounding the lodge. The sleds and snow-shoes were provided by the owners for us to enjoy. We enjoyed the house so much that we did not want to be away at the ski slopes all day long. The house had everything we needed to be happy and comfortable without having to drive into town for additional entertainment. It was exactly as described in the listing and the owners were extremely nice and welcoming. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing place to call “home” while visiting the beautiful mountains of Colorado. We will be back next year after winter hibernation!

Beautiful vacation home - will not disappoint

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful property with top-notch amenities. We stayed mid-July with extended family and had a blast. Went into breckenridge several times, went fishing, made the 1 1/2 hr drive to pikes peak. The house is in a great location, really close to FairPlay for groceries and breakfast/lunch out if you don't feel like cooking and only about a 15-20 minute drive to breckenridge for a night out or shopping. The kids enjoyed all the summer activities on the ski slopes of breckenridge including kids rope course, slide, mini golf and zip lining to name a few. We were traveling with small kids so flew into Denver and rented a car. It was not a bad drive at all and very scenic. Would definitely recommend, especially for those trying to get a little reprieve from the summer heat like us! Weather was beautiful!

Beautiful home, but dishonest owners

  • 2 of 5

When we saw this home, we thought it was gorgeous. Aside from it being on the outskirts of Breckenridge, this home is cozy, spacious and very welcoming. As soon as we saw it, we thought it was the perfect vacation home. I quickly emailed the owner & from the very beginning was questioned on our age range and whether we were fit to act appropriately and not act like crazy "millennials". Although I understand the owner's concerns, as this is their home and their right, the generalizations & grouping of people was quite concerning & confusing since I had been polite & offered additional information & details about our group (young professionals, mid 20's to late 30's & mostly family members).

The owner also mentioned & requested if we could arrive a day later due to other vacationers leaving earlier that same day, but as I mentioned to her our airline tickets had already been purchased... I suggested that we could arrive later in the afternoon so as to give them plenty of time to fix up the home. After sharing further personal information and filling out additional forms that requested birth dates for each individual, the owners sent the contract, without any further comments and/or feedback for my continued friendly responses & cooperation.

The day we arrived we were excited! While we began to put away our belongings in each room, we were surprised to find the house in fair conditions. We have stayed in various VRBO's before & this was the first time we saw dirty dishes, pots, pans, & utensils, crumbled goldfish crackers in the master room, & crumbs along the edges of the counter. We didn't make a fuss about it. We took out the vacuum, & washed the plates, utensils, pots & pans before & after utilizing them. We basically treated this house as if it were our own.

While we enjoyed our stay its upsetting to ONLY receive PARTIAL return of our security dep., due to the owner's claims that we left a soiled stove & it took their cleaning lady 45 mins to clean. I have never in my life heard of a kitchen being so soiled within a few days, that it takes that long to clean, ESPECIALLY after we cleaned it OURSELVES before leaving. I find it VERY DISHONEST & will make sure NOT to recommend this home due to the owners' attitude and treatment. Deducting from a security deposit for damaging property or for careless vacationers makes sense...deducting for a house in which the owners received it in cleaner conditions than in which they handed it over, DOES NOT!

Owner's Response: Our misgivings about renting our beautiful home to this group turned out to be accurate. We can only assume that all the "paraphernalia" trash we found explains their clouded assessment of what the condition of our home was in - both upon arriving and leaving. Would not recommend them as future renters unless you want to pay housekeeping to degrease the entire range and backsplash. I believe them entirely when she says they treated our home as their own - that's the problem.

Fantastic Home!

  • 5 of 5

The Black Diamond Lodge served our group perfectly. The location is great, less than 2 hours from Denver. The home is very comfortable and well appointed. The kitchen is equipped for any level of cooking, the comfortable beds provided a good night's sleep for everyone, and the living room provides a great space to relax around a roaring fire. We had two toddlers in our group and BDL comes equipped with two high-chairs, two portable cribs, and toys! Overall, a fantastic stay!

Everything you could want to make a group comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

The owners were very easy to work with leading up to our trip and made themselves available for any issues that would have come about (we had none).

Their home was wonderful, expansive, and you could tell, they paid attention to all the details.

We were a group of guy friends, on our first ski trip out west and a few of us agreed, we would like to come again with our group or even another trip with our families (if they would have us).

It is a terrific home, exactly as advertised.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this home. We had a total of 8 people ranging in age from 17 to 78 and it offered a lot of options for things to do. The kitchen and open area area extremely large and bright, and open into the well furnished family room. The master bedroom is very nice and the indoor whirlpool, sauna and two person shower are legit. We shot pool, used the outdoor grill, went snowshoeing and also sledded in the back two different times. The drive into Fairplay is very short and we spent a few hours in town shopping and having a beverage.
