Manualoha 106 is a beautiful two-level condominium home that offers high quality, spacious accommodation and WONDERFUL VIEWS AND SOUNDS OF WAVES BREAKING ON ONE OF THE BEST SANDY BEACHES in the Poipu Beach area.

Manualoha is a small, well-maintained group of 11 elegant wood buildings within the Poipu Kai Resort. Our building is the closest to the beach and our condo in particular has the best views in the Poipu Kai Resort: 270 degrees, beach, ocean, mountains, and sunsets.

Visitors to Manualoha 106 walk across a well-tended lawn to WORLD FAMOUS BRENNECKE'S BEACH, Kauai's premier BOOGIE BOARDING and BODY SURFING beach.

Manualoha 106 has SWEEPING 270 degree WHITEWATER VIEWS of Brennecke's Beach, Kauai's massive VOLCANIC PEAKS, including Kawaikini, at 5,208 feet, the highest point on the island, and the grounds of the attractive Poipu Kai Resort.

Manualoha 106 is BEAUTIFULLY FURNISHED AND MAINTAINED with a large family room-style living room/dining room with cathedral windows, glass with a sliding glass door to a PRIVATE LANAI/BALCONY, and a kitchen and 1/2 bath, all on the top (3rd) floor. The bottom (2nd) floor includes a large master bedroom with an adjoining bathroom with separate tub and shower, a walk-in closet, king-size bed, ample storage, and its own SECOND PRIVATE LANAI/BALCONY. The condo is 1,331 square feet, while the two lanais add another 315 square feet, for a total of 1,646 square feet of living space. The guest bedroom includes two twin beds, a large closet, storage, and has immediate access to a bath with a shower across the hallway. If your party is sharing expenses, please keep in mind that the guest bedroom doesn't have the view and other amenities, and although the twin beds can be pushed together, it's not really the same as a double or queen bed. Our kids, other family, and non-paying guests are always very happy in the guest bedroom. It just can be an issue if you are spitting expenses.

Manualoha 106 is absolutely amazing for one to four persons. Sorry, but we do not rent to more than four guests at a time.

To keep up with the news, sports, etc, there is a 46' flat screen cable TV/DVD ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM with HD channels and Sports Package in the living room, a flat screen cable TV/DVD in the master bedroom, and a flat screen cable TV in the guest bedroom. There is an iPod dock so you can play your own music, along with a small collection of Hawaiian music CDs.

Manualoha is a SMALL COMPLEX of upscale condominiums within the beautiful Poipu Kai Resort. Manualoha 106 visitors have access to the MANUALOHA POOL, which is located IMMEDIATELY NEXT TO THE CONDO and is reserved for the use of Manualoha residents and visitors only. The pool was upgraded in 2015/16 and is now fully open.

Like most accommodation on Kauai, most units in the Manualoha complex have NO central AIR CONDITIONING or heating. The units are designed for through air flow and natural cooling/heating via the trade winds. We prefer this lifestyle, even if it can get a little warm during the summer. But, we like having all the windows and louvers open and not having to listen to air conditioning noise from neighbors. We much prefer hearing the sound of breaking waves on Brennecke's Beach. Visitors who are uncomfortable in the high 80s and low 90s should avoid the summer months or should consider the A/C cooled Regency complex, also in the Poipu Kai Resort, or search for a Manualoha unit that offers an indoor A/C unit.

Brennecke's Beach is part of POIPU BEACH PARK, which is generally referred to as POIPU BEACH, a series of four sandy beaches located on Kauai's DRY, SUNNY south shore. The other beaches include a CHILDREN'S BEACH, which is a wonderful place for small children, a couple of good SNORKLING areas, and a good place to learn SURFING, all right next to Brennecke's Beach. Just lying on the beach and watching TURTLES close up and WHALES in the distance is fun too!

As a visitor to Manualoha 106, you will also have access to the POIPU KAI RESORT POOL and HOT TUB, and the Poipu Kai TENNIS CLUB. The tennis club has eight courts, two of them all-weather, all-level round-robins three times a week, and a ball machine. The family month-long membership at $60 is a great value even for a short stay. The staff keeps a list of available local and visiting players and is very helpful in setting up good matches.

There are several good RESTAURANTS within WALKING DISTANCE of Manualoha 106 and many within a few minutes drive. SHOPPING is also a few minutes away by car, either in the upscale Poipu Shopping Center or in the QUAINT OLD TOWN OF KOLOA two miles away.

About The Owner

Elaine and I live in Sacramento, California, and have three kids, ages 40, 37, and 25. We worked for many years as environmental consultants in California. Elaine was a history and environmental economics major; geography and geomorphology were mine. Elaine spends most of her time writing fiction. I do a little consulting, but trying to improve my tennis game seems to occupy much of my time and energy these days, especially here in Kauai. I also love the ocean and sailing. Manualoha 106 seems to bring all our interests together. Now that our youngest is out on his own, we're hoping to spend more time in Kauai, but we still want our guests and return guests to enjoy Manualoha 106 as well. Thanks for viewing our site, Roy.

Why The Owner chose South Shore

We found this wonderful property during a visit in late 1998 and were impressed by the inspiring 270 degree whitewater beach and mountain views, the light airy feel, the sound of the waves, the closeness to Brennecke's Beach, and the quality of the building and resort. We continually work on maintaining and improving the condo to a high standard because we want it to feel like our home and not just a rental. We want our guests to also feel like it is their home and to return often.

What makes this condo unique

The whitewater views and sounds are spectacular. The immediate proximity (two minute walk across a tended lawn) to a sandy beach with wave-riding is really unusual for Kauai. The nearby childrens beach and the nearby sandy beach near the Sheraton are lovely and calm, perfect for small children and snorkeling. Along with the beach view, Manualoha 106 also has sweeping views of the highest mountains in Kauai, including Mt. Kawaikini the highest point on the island. The changing light, clouds, and mist on these mountain peaks adds to the tree-top feel of Manualoha 106. The pool immediately next door to the condo is reserved for the exclusive use of Manualoha visitors and residents. The beach view from the pool is almost as good as from the condo. The tennis club is a two minute walk across another lawn to the north of the condo. This is a very well-maintained club with six hard courts and two all-weather courts that play like clay. The Nukumoi surf shop is close by and rents body boards and other beach equipment. Brennecke's Restaurant, a beach view fish restaurant, and Kalapaki Joe's, a sports bar/hamburger joint are within immediate walking distance. Many other great restaurants and shopping are within a few minutes drive, and groceries and the quaint town of Koloa are two miles away. The Hyatt Hotel is about a five minute walk away. They have a world class golf course, several restaurants and a really enjoyable cocktail hour show of Hawaiian music and dancing, highlighting local children on Tuesdays and Saturdays. There is an excellent and inexpensive public golf course about 12 miles away in Lihue, plus the world-class Grand Hyatt and Kiahuna Plantation golf courses both 1/2 mile away. There are wonderful walks, east through the resort and to Shipwreck Beach, or west along Poipu Beach and the rocky coast.

“Awesome. Loved this place! Great view from balconies...saw whales. Walking distance to beach and restaurants. Much sunnier and warmer in Poipu compared to the rest of the island. Condo had everything we needed including beach chairs and umbrella. Would definitely stay here again. Only drawback was we traveled with another couple and second bedroom had 2 twin beds.”

Owner's Response: The small problem was that a couple of the slats under the master bedroom California King Bed slipped off the frame. The bed is a high-end piece of furniture that we purchased earlier this year and was installed by the vendor. The guests reported the problem to me at 7 pm (10 pm my time). I immediately contacted our handyman and he corrected the problem the very next morning. I work hard to keep up with things like this, including by always asking departing guests to report anything that needs to be repaired or maintained. Sometimes it seems guests are reluctant to report problems, thinking they may be held accountable. In fact, I've never charged anyone for damage in the six years we've been renting the property ourselves and do not ask for a damage deposit. Things happen, glasses break, lamps fall, and slats come loose, as a consequence of normal wear and tear. In six years of self-rental, we've only had one other less-than-five star review. The other one was because the weather was particularly warm in Kauai during the guests' stay... loved the condo, hated the hot weather. Anyway: future guests, please report problems immediately. We work hard to keep everything working and well-maintained.

Great condo in Poipu

The condo was super clean and very well stocked when we arrived. They even had zip lock bags, foil, saran wrap, shampoo and conditioner, and laundry detergent which made the stay even more enjoyable. This condo unit hands down is the best unit in Manualoha condos. You have the best of both worlds with this condo. Oceanfront views, 1 minute walk to the boogie boarding (Brenneckes) beach where my husband was body surfing with sea turtles. 3 minute walk to Poipu beach which is perfect for little kids with its protected cove and fantastic snorkling. You are also one of the closest units to the pool which was a bonus with our kids. Walking distance to several restaurants and bars. Super comfy beds, lots of towels and beach towels. There were nice chairs to take to the beach along with a beach umbrella. Also snorkel gear for 4 people. There are no boogie boards here though. Best bet if your wanting to boogie board is to rent one at the surf shop or we bought one for $19 at Costco. Overall had a great time at this condo and will rent here again.

Attention to detail, nicely supplied, comfortable, easy access to pool, parking just outside the building. Owner provides a wealth of information to enable each guest to thoroughly enjoy their stay in his home. This place is such a treat. I am so glad we found this home and hope to be back soon. Having a contact in the event you have questions is awesome and everyone that works the grounds was so friendly. Just a really wonderful experience as we enjoyed our stay for our daughter's wedding at Plantation Gardens just a short distance up the street. Couldn't have been happier with our experience!
