About Steve Belden

As a retired contractor I fell in love with and bought the property several years ago. So close to all the attractions, but very far away from the traffic and congestion. This is a natural bay which affords clam digging, mussel picking as well as a much needed rest stop for several migrating bird species.

The Carriage house style was built to afford and lofty view. The simple design was chosen to be easy to live with. Simple, but functional . The property rental allows us to fund our retirement activities as well as let others enjoy Maine the way it really is.

Steve Belden purchased this house in 2007

Why Steve Belden chose Lamoine

Private location that is near Maine's best activities and parks. A true natural setting with abundant wildlife. A great place for well behaved pets and children. Our 1/2 miles driveway is quiet and away from roads, traffic and the mass crowds. The surrounding towns here have lots of restaurants, lobster pounds and activities.

If you seek a very crowded town packed with traffic gridlock and people you should choose Bar Harbor. Our guests have many times been to the area before and realize they can have the best of both worlds here.

What makes this house unique

Most are nature lovers seeking peace and quiet in harmony with nature. Close to lots of activities. Close to a small municipal airport for those who fly to the area. Within 5 miles of the hub terminal for the Island Explorer bus system that will take you anywhere in the park or local area ( free )!

Great House for 3 Couples!

  • 4 of 5

The first thing that attracted us to this house was the location and that it had 3 bedrooms and 3 adjoining full bathrooms. The house is located close to most of what you'd want to do and see in Downeast Maine -- Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Peninsular (the little know part of Acadia), Bar Harbor, Castine, a decent sized town (Ellsworth), and lots of good places to eat. It's even close to LaMoine Beach -- a decent sized beach. Even with all that convenience, is feels very private and is on a lovely piece of waterfront property. The house was very clean throughout and the linens were good quality. The deck is beautiful and provides a nice view of the water -- great place for morning coffee. Overall the house has a well stocked kitchen, although we were surprised that there were NO staples (e.g., salt, pepper) whatsoever. We left some. If you have a member of your group who is obsessed with doing the laundry (we did!), the laundry facilities are great (I'm told).

We do have some suggestions for making guest stays more enjoyable. Since the house is obviously set up for 6 people, it would be nice to have six chairs for the dining room table. We found overall the housewas sparsely furnished. We ended up having to move furniture throughout the day to accommodate everyone. The leather sofa in the living room is very comfortable. The old futon not so much. It has seen better days and should be replaced. Also, more lighting throughout would be nice. The house tends to be very dark especially at night. Although there are some floor fans, ceiling fans in each bedroom and the living would be very helpful. Getting from the house to the water is a bit of a challenge. Finding the path is not easy and it is steep at the end. We noticed neighboring houses with steps and a deck to the water. That would be a huge improvement -- since the shore is gorgeous. The wi-fi turned out to be a perpetual nuisance. It simply isn't suited to 6 people with multiple devices. Hopefully there is a better solution.

The one issue that no one can do anything about is the proximity to the Bar Harbor Airport. We had expected the noise of a few small planes a day, but in fact, small jets fly in and out each day. It's not an overwhelming issue, but when the noise is up it ruins the sense of peace and quiet. So caveat emptor!

Beautiful respite, and convenient to everything!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and my parents in law stayed here for a week and it was just perfect for our Maine vacation. The pictures really pale in comparison to the reality. The house itself was well-appointed, with everything we could possibly need. It was so comfortable and we had a fun time cooking together in the fully equipped kitchen, and just hanging out and taking in the amazing views right outside the huge windows and from the deck. The surrounding woods and beach were so beautiful and peaceful - coming from Los Angeles, it was just what we needed. Despite it truly feeling like you were in the middle of nowhere (in the best possible sense), the property was super convenient to Ellsworth (for groceries and restaurants, etc.) and to Acadia National Park and all we wanted to see and do, which included kayaking, rock-climbing, and hiking. Steve was a gracious and super responsive host, and we could not recommend his lovely property more, to anyone who is considering a visit to this part of Maine. This was actually our first time booking a property via VRBO, and Steve's home was the first one that popped up when we did a search for this area. It seemed almost too good to be true that we'd find a great place to stay, just like that, but even after scrolling through a few others, we came back to this house and booked it, and I'm so glad we did! Thanks for a wonderful time, Steve!

Peaceful, beautiful location and home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience at Steve's house. The view from the deck off the living room is gorgeous, and the kitchen is well equipped, except be sure to bring your own paper towels, spices, and olive oil, etc. The house is very comfortable and conveniently located, yet far enough from the crowds of Acadia to allow for complete peace and quiet. It only takes 20 minutes to get to the National Park and about 15 minutes to a large grocery store. We hope to stay here again the next time we are in the area.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This was a return trip for us to Steve's property. It has everything you could wish for: All the conveniences in addition to gorgeous views and peaceful surroundings. Bar Harbor is a short drive away, as well as the Schoodic peninsula. Shopping is close by in Ellsworth.

The home itself is comfortable and roomy, complete with a fully equipped open concept kitchen and attached family room. The large TV was the perfect solution for a rainy afternoon! We hope to return to this property for many more vacations in Maine!

Just perfect

  • 5 of 5

We took our mom (88 years old!) for her first vacation to Maine. This was the perfect house for us. Each bedroom had its own bathroom, the open concept living/kitchen area was lovely. Beautiful views, private location, surrounded by all that nature has to offer. We hope to visit again!
