Alaskan Cabin Exceeds Expectations
Our group of 3 had a great time staying at the Lodge & Alaskan cabin at mile post 28 on the Nabesna Road in Wrangell/St Elias National Park. The owners are great hosts & make sure that you have everything you need. If you need anything, just ask.
The Alaskan cabin was very well designed & built and will comfortably sleep 4. The kitchen is well stocked & has a starter set of everything you’ll need. The pellet heater worked very well & automatically kept the cabin warm.
Since this location uses solar power & wind power, certain concessions such as no hair dryers, no drip coffee makers & no microwave, are required. We found that these “concessions” actually added to the experience, & you get some robust French Press coffee in the process. Plus, the accessible internet has not yet made it all the way to the interior of the park & there is no cell service, so look forward to some exceptional unwired time in a beautiful location. You can purchase a token to access satellite internet, but who wants to do that in these surroundings?
Finally, be sure to take advantage of their food options. We had a dinner & a breakfast there, & it was the best food we had in Alaska. It is served in the refurbished hunting lodge which adds to the experience. Next time we’ll get more meals in the lodge.

Thank you for such a glowing and detailed review! We’re so glad your group enjoyed your stay in the Alaskan Cabin and made the most of everything our tranquil corner of Wrangell–St. Elias has to offer. It’s wonderful to hear that the cabin’s design, kitchen setup, and wood pellet heater met your needs, and that you embraced the unique off-grid features that make this place special.
We’re especially happy you enjoyed your meals in the lodge—sharing fresh, hearty food in that historic space is one of our favorite parts of hosting. Your kind words about the experience mean a lot to us.
It was a pleasure hosting you, and we’d love to welcome you back for another unplugged, nature-filled adventure (and, of course, more lodge meals!) on your next Alaska visit.
Kind regards,
Victoria and Michael

Propietario/a: Michael or Victoria Rego, Avens Alaska
Owners Michael and Victoria have poured heart and soul into restoring the property, and continue raising their family in one of the last untamed parts of Alaska. Their outfit is truly an American dream in the works. Everyone pitches in to make sure chores are done and guests want for nothing (except for maybe a few more days here!).
Michael is a lifelong Alaskan whose experience and appreciation for this place runs deep, from helping his dad grow summer gardens above the Copper River every year and riding his bike down to hook the legendary king salmon, he has spent countless hours exploring and enjoys sharing what he has learned with friends old and new. He is also the engineer behind this operation and ensures reliable, continuous heat, power, water, and connectivity year-round.
Victoria achieved her lifelong dream of working as an archaeologist in Alaska nearly 20 years ago, and today homeschools their children in one of the most beautiful wild places on earth, where the labors of their hands provide sustenance year-round and make this unique opportunity for guests possible.
Whether you're on vacation, hiking, fishing, stargazing, snowmachining, or working here in North America’s largest national park, we welcome you to our home. Though this area has no hotels, restaurants, or crowds for miles around, we provide the essentials and then some to make your trip unforgettable. If you’re looking for the real, unedited Alaska - you’ll find it here with us!
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
This is one of the most peaceful places in all of Alaska - surrounded by mountains, lakes, starry skies, and countless birds and wildlife. Because the area is not well known- the national park does not market the Nabesna Road and there are no other businesses here- it sees only a handful of visitors each year. This is the place Alaskans come to play and get away from the crowds of Denali and the Kenai.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
We are the only lodge open year-round inside Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, and the only lodge on the Nabesna Road with comfortable, ensuite accommodations and gourmet meal service.
