About Jane Hopper

My husband and I purchased our property in Durango, Colorado in 1998. We look forward to our eventual retirement in Durango. We built our home there in 2004-2005, and try to visit as often as we can with family. We have four wonderful children, two loyal dogs, and three precious grandchildren.

Jane Hopper purchased this chateau / country house in 1998

Why Jane Hopper chose Southwest

Durango is beautiful and very diverse. There are plenty of things to do regardless of the season you visit. Our house is 11.5 miles east of the town of Durango. The house sits on a south facing slope above a beautiful valley. We have plenty of sunshine in the house all year long!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Although we have the peace and quiet of the country, we are close enough to town that grocery shopping, dinner out, or the movies are all easy. Durango has a variety of excellent restaurants and the Main Street shopping is great. There is also a mall with Pottery Barn, Sears, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc. There is a Wal-Mart and a Home Depot. Mesa Verde National Park is an hour west of the house. Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory Ski area) is 40 minutes north. The Animas River has great fishing and rafting and runs right through town. There is a terrific river trail that goes through town for walking, jogging or biking. Durango has a great Community Center with workout equipment and a really fun indoor pool and climbing wall. The day fee is very reasonable and kids 9 and over can be dropped off.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our recent summer stay at this home was truly outstanding from the mountain views, to the well equipped kitchen, to the numerous places for family of 8 to sleep, to just about anything you could ask for in a vacation home. Even all the pre-arrangements were well thought out, easy to follow and made checking in and out a piece of cake. Location was great. Close enough to Durango to enjoy what the town had to offer and nestled in the mountains where we took hikes, visited lakes, did some fly-fishing, and even nearby horseback riding. We have many pictures to share for years to come. Many thanks for sharing it with us.

Beautiful mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful winter retreat. The setting is just perfect for the snow lover. My extended family of 10 has rented the Cercos Mountain Retreat 3 times for a winter ski trip and we have never been disappointed. The house is perfect for multi-families and the owners are wonderful to work with.

Great home

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time staying at this home during our week in Durango. Very peaceful, relaxing and large enough for 12 of us to spread out and not feel on top of each other. The home had everything we needed and the owners were great to work with.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in June with the family. Very peaceful and relaxing. The house was lovely and had every thing we needed and some that we didn't expect. Loved that you had handicap items available for the bathroom.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review, Debbie! I am glad you and your family enjoyed your stay in Durango. We hope you can make it back again in the future. I'm happy to hear that you used the handicap items. We purchased them specifically for another guest, but I think they will get lots of use. Take care. Jane

Oasis in the hills

  • 5 of 5

Two families stayed here with kids ages 10 to 14. The bunk room was a perfect hangout (ping pong was a big hit with the Dads as well)! They kids loved visiting Teddy's fort too. Spacious and comfortable, this was an ideal place for all of us. The teens had their own rooms although they stayed in the bunk room with the other 2 on some nights.

The big kids (parents) enjoyed the peace and quiet of the evenings nestled in the forest. The new hammock we had brought along was perfect! Everything at the property was well maintained, super clean with plenty of extra sheets and towels. Great to be in Durango in the summer for a change, with plenty to do. A perfect place to hang out and relax (or be active)!

Wonderful Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Cercos Mountain Retreat for my Parent's 40th anniversary. The home was perfect for us and just lovely. There were 10 of us, 7 adults and three kids (ages 2, 9 and 16). There was plenty of space for everyone, with every adult getting a bedroom and the kids enjoying their own space in the bunkroom. The kids enjoyed watching TV, playing ping pong, and other games in their own space. The adults enjoyed having plenty of space to spread out and relax, read, talk and enjoy each others company. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. We cooked every breakfast and most lunch and dinners. The house was very clean, as well as all the bedding and towels needed.

The location was situated perfectly to explore the area. We spent time in Durango, took a Jeep tour, road the Train from Silverton and traveled to Ouray.

The owners were great. They provided us a lot of information about the house and area that was very useful. They were also very responsive to questions we had before and during the trip. Also, unfortunately a couple of things broke while we were in the house and they were very reasonable in dealing with this and deciding on a fair amount to keep from our deposit to cover the damage.

Our family had a great time and we would definitely stay here again.
