About The Owner

Having lived many places in the US and Europe, I have found this valley to be a place like none other. My spirit soars in the beauty of the surrounding nature, my brain is enlightened by the amazing Aspen Music Festival and Aspen Institute, my body is toned by the hiking, skiing, golfing and bicycling and my family and friends love the warmth of my home. Although coming here because of a dream, it has been beyond any dream I could have envisioned.

The Owner purchased this villa in 2000

Why The Owner chose Aspen Glen

I lovingly built this home for myself, my family, friends and visiting guests on double bends of the river and across from a nature preserve, facing south to look at the beautiful Mt Sopris. This valley is exceptional and I am told my others, so is the house. Having lived in some world class cities, I have found world class opportunities here in this paradise called the Roaring Fork Valley. Like others, I love the local restaurants, farmer's markets and all things 'Nature' one can do here. Unique to this spot are the World Class music and lectures, skiing, hiking and biking that people from throughout the world seek out.

What makes this villa unique

I hang out in the yard, sometimes gardening, sometimes reading, daily in the hot tub watching the sunset, the night sky or boaters coming down the river. In the summer, I love taking family and friends inner tubing down river from my house or hopping on my bike for a jaunt on the bike path. Golf is a favorite past time in summer and oft times I love a good hike into the high country. There is simply not enough time in the day for it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

In a letter recommending this house, Diane and Rusty, who stayed two months, said the following:

"My family and I spent this past summer at Aspen glen in Carbondale, CO, after renting there the previous year. Our repeat visit was inspired by the success of our first summer: the atmosphere, the amenities and the proximity to town made it a perfect fit for us. Aspen Glen is an amazing community.

This year we rented Karen's home on Alpen Glo Lane while we had seen pictures prior to our arrival, the location on the Roaring Fork River with Mt. Sopris as a backdrop, was indeed breathtaking. The house itself, with its five en suite bedrooms was terrific for entertaining family and friends throughout the summer. Our biggest concern was trying to figure out which was the master bedroom/bath as the rooms are so beautifully appointed and spacious. The living, dining and kitchen areas are beautiful as well and we had numerous dinner parties. The house, with its surrounding gardens and backyard felt very private, yet was minutes away from the clubhouse.

Really great stay at vacation home between Aspen and Glenwood Springs!

My family and I found this home away from home to be absolutely stunning. From the spacious floor plan to the gorgeous kitchen and million dollar views of Mt. Sopris, we were as close to heaven as we could get. The beautiful architectural and decorating details in every room made us feel like we were in a home fitting a king. No detail was left out of this home that has special touches in every room. The beds and quality bedding were so comfortable; hibernating was a piece of cake! Each bedroom has its own private bathroom and cozy robes were available for everyone - a nice touch of luxury for every member of the family. The backyard was nothing short of spectacular. The patio with ample seating for everyone was very comfortable. The owner obviously enjoys gardening and the fruits of her labor were lovely. We enjoyed waving at the fishermen going by on the river, a few even had fish! The Jacuzzi provided a relaxing oasis in the evening. We did not want to leave! The home’s location was very convenient and close to shopping in both Glenwood Springs and Aspen. There are so many activities all year round, you will surely find plenty to do - not that you are going to want to leave this fantastic home! The VRBO Bear

2 weeks of beauty

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for first 2 weeks in August. Karen's 5 bedroom home which accommodates friends and family very comfortably. She has an amazing view of Mount Sopris and it's right on the Roaring Fork River. Her home is beautifully appointed all the bedrooms have comfortable beds and bathrooms. The kitchen is easy to cook in. We love the location. There is so much hiking in the Carbondale area. We had several fun trips to Marble, Avalanche Creek, & Penny Hot Springs. Biking is great, too! The Roaring Fork River is great for fishing and kayaking. The location is amazing with the most spectacular view we've seen of Mt Sopris, right from the main house ,not to mention luxurious accommodations ready for families and friends! Fun, comfort and luxury! Enjoy.

New Year's Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in the Aspen Core for the past 20 years, we were hesitant to stay 30 miles down valley. The drive to the slopes was no problem. We ate and shopped in Aspen, Basalt and Carbondale and enjoyed the diversity. As an architect, I appreciated the home's quality details and sensitive siting. The house has magnificent views of the Roaring Fork River with Mt Sopris in the distance. Our family enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub after skiing with fresh snow falling around us. We enjoyed the spacious rooms and numerous bathrooms not found in the "core". The migrating elk were an added feature. This is a very special property, well maintained and managed.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the elegant review. I was especially happy that an architect liked my work! Glad you and your family had such a good time and that you "get" why being downvalley had such great attraction. Karen

All I can say is WOW!

  • 5 of 5

If you are planning a vacation in the Aspen Valley, let me assure you that you can't go wrong with this home. First, let me say that "Luxury Home" does not do the place justice. Each of the bedrooms are very large and beautifully decorated. The gormet kitchen is huge and incredibly well equipped. The comfortable living room had a grand fireplace where we cuddled up on a cold winter's day and couldn't have been happier! And lastly, and most importantly, the owner Karen is an absolute joy to deal with. She is so helpful and accomodating and her communication is top notch! Please! Do yourself a favor. If you are looking for a family vacation or with a few couples, stop looking! Just contact Karen. I promise you won't be sorry!

Spectacular Mountain Home

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we stepped in the door and saw the expansive views of Mt. Sopris and the Roaring Fork River out the back, we had the most amazing time at this lovely home. The owner spared nothing in making sure we were comfortable and left wonderful vacation materials and instructions about the area, which made our stay even better. The home is only 5 minutes away from Carbondale dining and shopping, even though you feel that you are out in the country. The layout of the house made for private and comfortable quarters for our whole family of three adult couples and one single. Everyone had their own private bedroom and bath suite, in addition to the lovely main floor living area. The hot tub, patio and lower terrace with shaded lounge chairs was an extra special treat! While we were there in summer and enjoyed the warm temps, it seems like this would be an ideal ski house for several families as well. The neighborhood is a luxurious gated golf community surrounded by mountains, like no other we've ever seen.

Incredible Roaring Fork Valley Home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (4 year old and 8 month old) along with our nanny and another family stayed at Glenhaven over new years eve. The house was perfect. There was plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen is great, we cooked at home a lot especially for the kids. The downstairs is like a separate 2 bedroom apartment with it's own living area and TV so the other family could have their own space. The view of Mt. Sopris and the river and valley from the house and brand new hot tub are the best you could possibly imagine. The house's location was perfect for taking the kids to Sunlight Mountain for cheaper lessons and also to make trips into Aspen, Snowmass and Buttermilk to ski, shop and eat. It's only 5 minutes from downtown Carbondale which has some of the best dinner restaurants we've ever experienced. Since we had such spring-like weather, we also did a 5 hour drift trip with a guide from Taylor Creek Fly Shop in Basalt down the Roaring Fork that took us right in front of the house and it was incredible. Probably 50 fish on (mainly rainbows and browns), saw literally 100 elk, 2 bald eagles, several types of ducks and geese. Overall, Glenhaven is a spectacular place to call home while you explore the valley.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words about a home and location I dearly love. In building this house, I envisioned lots of different combinations of people enjoying it, so I am happy you found that to be true. Your ten day stay is really a wonderful way to unwind and enjoy the home and much of what the area has to offer. What do they say in the South? Hurry back, ya hear? Karen
