Gull Lake Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Our family enjoyed this Gull Lake cabin for our family reunion. Our son and his wife came from NYC and our daughters with their children came from California and Lakeville. The guest cabin worked out great. We really appreciated the central air, as it was a hot summer week. The beach was great for the kids and the bay quiet and beautiful. There were two charcoal grills, and two picnic tables for our outdoor picnics. The bar in the middle of the cabin was a favorite hangout. The kitchen was well supplied, and we enjoyed the ice machine in the refrigerator and the dishwasher.Every night we had a campfire on the beach. We had a great week.

Labor Day weekend 2015 stay

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have been holding annual "get togethers" and this year we stayed at this property (along with family and other friends). The property worked perfectly for our group as the kids all stayed in the guest house/cabin and the adults in the main house/cabin. The wetbar came in very handy also! The property is not the "Ritz Carlton" but it was perfect for our needs. The location is great....straight across from Squaw Point, and somewhat secluded in a bay only used by fishermen. Great spot to run kids around skiing and jet skiing as no boat traffic and very safe. There was a burning ring by the fire which we used twice, and the views of the lake from the home are great (8' wide patio doors). The outdoor patio space was perfect also and we played bean bag toss right next to it. Overall I would definitely stay again if we choose the gull chain next year and I highly recommend this property for similar get togethers.

Great Weekend with Friends

  • 5 of 5

Photos were accurate, lake was beautiful, plenty of room for our group of 10 adults. Men golfed at Maddens and Craguns, ladies enjoyed some Pretty Good Shopping in Nisswa. Zorbas is a 10 minute drive away, a few bar/restaurants even closer. We rented a pontoon for an afternoon and had bonfires at night. Charcoal grill, wet bar w/ fridge, coffee maker and ice machine in the refrigerator were great features! A little older than expected, but would definitely stay there again. Wish the cabin had Wi-Fi.

Excellent Balance of Cabin Feel + Amenities

  • 4 of 5

When my husband and I moved back to Minnesota after spending several years in San Francisco, we rented this cabin for about six months from December to mid June. In short, we loved it; leaving was bittersweet. With it's low ceilings and ample woodwork, it always felt like a cabin. At the same time, we never felt deprived of any amenities, as the cabin has all the appliances and conveniences you'd find in any modern home. In our time there, we hosted many friends and family, and the cabin never failed to charm our visitors. Many laughs were had at the built-in bar in the living room and the fire pit near the water's edge. The cabin sits on a large, wooded lot and is closer to the water than any newly constructed building could be. There's a pretty solid restaurant within walking distance, which we took advantage of frequently. In both the winter and spring, we found good fishing spots—all within just a few hundred feet from the shoreline. This is a cabin you go to for the surrounding nature and the feel of being on a clean, northern lake. I grew up in the area and can safely say that it's the kind of place locals covet. It's one of the nicest lots on Gull Lake. Treat it kindly!

Perfect for a large group!

  • 4 of 5

We have rented this cabin for several summers. It is a great place for a large group. A perk is that a boat lift is included! Nice beach and swimming area. Flat, shaded lot for outdoor games and activities, and bon fires at night. Plenty of room to park trailers in the back. The guest cabin is nice for extra sleeping area, plus it has it's own bathroom and shower. The shared dock has not been an issue.

Renters beware! Un-Safe property! Not up to building code! Dangerous for children!

  • 1 of 5

We rent on VRBO all the time with great success but this honestly was the Worst vacation ever! The yard has poison ivy around it, theres a pile of wood with big nails sticking out of it just a few feet from the back patio, there was broken glass between the house and the beach. Luckily I found it before my kids cut there feet open. There is a hallway that ends with a 2 foot droop off! Yes I said 2 ft drop off! No railing, no warning, not up to any building code anywhere in the world! One of my children fell off at night and was hurt badly. We left the property early because of this. There were light fixtures just hanging from raw wires! Very dangerous! We couldn't relax because we had to spend all out time making sure our kids stayed away from all the dangers. No sleep because all the mattresses were around 20 years old, sagged in the middle and had huge PEE stains all over the! Both sides! Disgusting! Pillows also all has stains. I went to target the next day and bought all new pillows for my family. The carpet was filthy with at least 20 big black stains on it. We wouldn't dare walk on it without our shoes on. There is no where for you to park your boat unless you have the exact same size as the owners and then you could use there lift. We have a pontoon so there was no where for us to park. We had to beach it every day. The dock is shared with another family which was not posted on this site until I complained when we got home. Now they tell you, nice! We had very little privacy because of this. The grill was filthy as was the fire pit. I don't think either of them have ever been cleaned. When we got home I made several attempts to talk with the owner about all the safety issues but they never responded. I would stay as far away from this property as possible. I have stayed at several other homes on Gull and had a great time. This place however will disappoint you and if you have children don't even think about it! My hope is with this review I can help out a fellow renter from waisting a hard earned vacation like we did. Most of us only get one per year. That's what's so disappointing! :(

Owner's Response: The stairs that the guest references are 26 inches in height with 3 risers. Minnesota Building Code requires railings for stairways with four or more risers or rising more than 30 inches in height. However, in the interest of safety of all of our guests, we have since installed a railing on these stairs. With respect to the boat lift, I don’t believe we are required to supply a lift to accommodate all boat sizes. We have had many, many guests and no one has ever complained about the accommodations for their boat. A woman and her son share the dock. She is very unobtrusive and we have never had any complaints from other guests. The carpet was professionally cleaned in November 2013 and now again in August 2014. When a lake home is rented weekly during the summer and is that close to the sandy beach, the carpet tends to get dirty at times. The light fixture (one) had come loose from the wall and was easily fixed once we were told about it. After his complaint about the wood and the glass, we walked the property and were unable to find those items that he referenced. All other concerns referenced have been addressed. We appreciate comments from our guests so that we can continue to provide a restful and enjoyable vacation for all of our guests.
