About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Historic District 1890 Cottage in the heart of Pass Christian, one block from Scenic Drive, the beach, and the downtown waterfront park. 12 Foot ceilings throughout. Lovingly restored & decorated, with original heart pine floors. Three Bedrooms, 2 with queen beds, and one with a trundle day bed (converts to 2 singles), plus sofa bed in LR. Beautiful large screen porch (20 x 50), with swing, hammock, 2 ceiling fans, colorful Adirondack picnic table (seats 6),glass & wicker dining table with 4 chairs, plus wicker seating area for 6.

Great for watching local Mardi Gras parade & sunsets. New Orleans one hour away. Casinos with name entertainment 15 minutes. Historic Bay St. Louis 5 minutes away. Walk the Bay St. Louis bridge at Sunset (4.2 miles over and back)

The home is in the Scenic Drive Historic District, and registered on the National Register of Historic Places. The Pass is a quiet, historic, beautiful southern village, with the slogan 'Birthplace of sailing in the South'. Beautiful Live Oaks abound around nostalgic Southern beachfront cottages in the Scenic Drive Historic District. As part of the Historic District, quaint Seal Avenue runs a short one block to the beach and Scenic Drive.

Fully appointed kitchen, 2 adult bikes, beach chairs, HD TV with complementary Netflix, DVR, DVD, iPod Dock, Tempurpedic mattress in master. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 4 ADULTS STAYING, we like to describe how the bedrooms are arranged. There are 2 bedrooms with Queen beds. One of those share a door with the children's bedroom ( with 2 single trundle beds), so coming from that queen bedroom, you have to pass through the children's room to get to the hall bath and the rest of the house. This works fine for families with children, but might not work for some adults. Please contact us with questions, or let us know if this works for you and we will approve the reservation!

About John

Kathy grew up in New Orleans, and has family in the area. John grew up in North Carolina, and met Kathy through their mutual love of sailing.

John purchased this house in 2008

Why John chose Pass Christian

Kathy's family, like a lot of people from New Orleans who have homes and cottages in the Pass, moved to Pass Christian permanently some years ago to enjoy the sailing and beach. John and Kathy have restored 3 old homes from the 20s, and jumped at the chance to own a historic home from 1890.

What makes this house unique

The front porch of our home, plus the historic nature of Seal Avenue and the Scenic Drive Historic District, made this an easy choice for us. One block to the Waterfront Memorial park, with its beautiful view through the live oaks to the Gulf, and its well equipted childrens playground, plus 3 new lighted tennis courts. The short 2 block walk to the downtown restaurants and shops, one block to the beach and the beautiful live oaks of Scenic Drive, plus the marina and yacht club 3 blocks away, make the home an ideal location as well. Want to get off the porch (it's hard to do),go kayaking on the Wolfe River and into the bayou, or take in a show at one of the many casinos 20 minutes down the Gulf. or enjoy one of many New Orleans inspired eateries close by, from elegant to quirky, you cant miss good food. Or better yet, go to New Orleans for the day (1 hour 10 minute drive from cottage to downtown NOLA )

Plan to spend some time in Bay St Louis (7 minutes) shopping the many antique and local specialty shops (sorry, no chain stores), or travel 45 minutes to quaint Ocean Springs, with its local shops and eateries.

Save time to take the Ship Island Ferry from Gulfport 11 miles out to the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was the perfect spot to relax after Mardi Gras and the only regret was that the stay was too short. Next time will be longer. Thanks for letting us share your lovely house. We loved both porches.

The Porch House is Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

The Porch House was the perfect house at the perfect location. My 92 year old mother lives two doors down from the Porch House so having a place that could accommodate our large family and make it easy on my mother was important. The house was absolutely breathtaking. It was easy for people from 6 months to 92 years to enjoy. This will be a memory that we will have for the rest of our lives. Much gratitude!!!

Relaxing place to reconnect

  • 5 of 5

This is the second vacation my family and I have spent at the Porch House. The house is spacious and clean, and the porch is the perfect place for lounging and catching up. It's only a block from the beach, and walking distance to downtown Pass Christian. We will definitely be booking here again.

Perfect place to stay on the Gulf Coast

  • 5 of 5

The Porch House was perfect. It is a beautiful, historic home, in a beautiful, historic, and relaxed community along the Gulf Coast. I don't think we could have picked a better place to stay.
