About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Spectacular split level Mid-Century Modern, with fantastic city and canyon views. Nestled high in the Hollywood Hills, it's surrounded by trees, quiet and privacy, yet only 5 minutes away from the excitement of Hollywood. Floor to ceiling windows, a southern exposure and a prevailing canyon breeze give you a bright, airy, California experience of indoor and outdoor living.

Originally built in 1961 by Award winning Architect Joseph Raella, it's been lovingly renovated with modern luxuries, and a decidedly Japanese style with an amazing Japanese bathroom with Cedar 'Ofuro' soaking tub, built by master craftsmen of Kiarts. Entrance with maple wood 'genkan,' to sit and put away your shoes. Downstairs is a Tatami Meditation room with Shoji screens, a table with a sunken floor for your feet, and terraced garden outside.

Wood floors, wood burning fireplace, period furniture, in a spacious, 2700 sq. ft, open floor plan. Heywood Wakefield dining set and end tables. Master bedroom set of custom made, maple furniture, new Hypo-allergenic mattress, dressing room with Shoji screen, Mac computer, and 60 inch Flat panel HD TV, with, DVD, Blue Ray, Cable select, and Yamaha Monitor Speakers.

Patio outside of kitchen with table and 8 chairs, gas Barbeque and soft lights for nighttime entertainment. 2nd patio outside of bedrooms #2 and #3 with table, chairs and sweet scented gardenias. Down below is a 1000 square foot grass yard and play structure that is surrounded by a bamboo grove. (Extremely rare to have a yard in the Hills.)

Situated in the historic Beachwood Canyon area beneath the famous Hollywood sign, it's only a 10 minute walk down to the local Market and Coffee shop. A 5 minute walk up the hill puts you at the entrance path down to the Hollywood Resevoir, surrounded by a 3 mile round jogging path. Or take the other path, walk along the ridge line past Madonna's house to the Child and Dog park, right at the best lookout of the Hollywood sign there is. Take a 5 minute ride to the top of the Canyon to the Horse stables, which have been there since 1923 and take a ride around the sign.

Weekly gardner. Available for photo shoots, commercials, and feature films.

Why Matthew Patrick chose Hollywood Hills

I was struck by how beautiful and unique this home was, and how it is centrally located in Los Angeles. It's not far from the Studios, Downtown, Beverly Hills, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, and a variety of hot spots. Hollywood is an old area with a lot of history, personality and mystery. It is wildly diverse, and you can find whatever you want. There are urban streets, beautiful rows of old California Bungalows, right next to the peace of the hills.

Fantastic home in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property. There were no surprises with this home as it was exactly as described. The home is well stocked, clean, and beautifully maintained. The views from the deck, living room, and master bedroom are fantastic. We enjoyed the patio and hiking opportunities right out of the back door. The owners provided us with detailed information about the property and surrounding neighborhood and they were extremely helpful. We felt like guests, not renters. We liked the property so well that there were a couple days in our week long stay that we never left the canyon. We would stay here again and hope to soon.

Excellent location with spectacular views

  • 4 of 5

The home was perfect for our family of five (Two adults, two teens and one pre-teen). I will admit at first I was slightly uncomfortable with the fact this was a home the owners actually lived in and many of their personal items were there, but I easily became used to it. The home was very clean and neat and the location was perfect. We were close to everything we wanted to do in the Los Angeles area and its close proximity to the highway made commuting easy. The neighborhood was a bonus I didn't expect. We were right in the middle of Hollywood history and being so close to the iconic Hollywood sign was a plus. We were fortunate to have great weather and morning walks were a great way to see the vintage homes and beautiful landscape. The owners were easy to communicate with and a pleasure to deal with. I would absolutely recommend this house to anyone visiting the area.

Very Good

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this property over Christmas 2015. It was very relaxing and had a beautiful view of Los Angeles. The listing description was accurate. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and the owners had a nice information book about LA with driving distances, etc. We had a few questions before and after we arrived and they always answered them right away. We had no problems, everything worked well and the house was very clean. For any families with younger children, they have a nice backyard with a swing set. There is a comfortable table and chairs outside under a tree to have meals. The only downside, if you were someone who wanted to go jogging from your front door, is that the location is in a beautiful hillside area of LA, but one with no sidewalks. The roads are a little narrow and curvy, but the hillside location means you get beautiful views from the back porch. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

This house was great. A beautiful home. Very spacious for our family of four. There is everything you need at the house, including a quiet backyard that is a perfect place to enjoy a meal. Best part of this house is the location! I loved where this house was. My husband and I had been to LA before (used to live there) and we went to show our kids the sights. I never wanted to leave the neighborhood! It is very convenient to everything we wanted to see-Venice Beach, Hollywood Boulevard, UCLA, Beverly Hills... The house is so close to the hustle and bustle that you expect to find in LA yet it is so peaceful and serene! The hiking trails are right there at the front door and they were magnificent! We drove to Runyon Canyon (also very close) but I enjoyed the scenery much better at the trails near the house. All the houses are beautiful! All so different and unique. It is like this secluded little spot, tucked away with marvelous views! A little grocery store was right at the bottom of the hill that was an easy walk from the house. Next door is a great little restaurant that we ended up in several times. Just such a gem of a location. I am so glad we found it. And thankful to the Patricks for opening up their beautiful home to us!

USC Orientation & family vacation July 2014

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time to stay in this beautiful Beachwood home. We are a family of four and were very fortunate to first stay at this home in 2012. Our son will be attending USC and we came back to LA for orientation and felt very lucky that this home was available again! We love the home and all it's comforts. It has a fantastic view and we found staying "at home" was one of our favorite parts of the vacation. The owners are very trustworthy, responsive and helpful. Some of the wonderful features within walking distance are the Beachwood Café, grocery store and hiking around Lake Hollywood. All are within walking distance and we hiked, shopped and ate at the Café several times during the week. We have used VRBO many times and this is one of our favorites.

Christmas Vacation 2014

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough about this experience from the time we placed the order until we left the property to return home. Our primary contact (Mary Kay) was so helpful and full of information regarding directions and sightseeing opportunities. This really helped us plan out our week before we even stepped on the plane.

This was our first family trip to the LA area so our primary focus were the typical tourist spots. The house being built on the side of the mountain provided a beautiful view of the landscape with the city on the distant horizon. The location was perfect - 15 minutes to Universal/Warner Bros, 10 minutes to the strip and museums, an hour to Disney and the ocean. It was originally suggested by the travel agent to use a Disney hotel and we are go grateful we found this place instead.

The house was clean, organized, and they provided a 'guide book' that detailed everything we needed to know about the house, along with emergency contacts. There was more than enough room for our family of five to sleep, eat, relax. When we arrived, there was a Christmas tree set up in the living room, lights on the deck, and a couple of goodies as a welcome present on the dining room table. This was a nice surprise for our kids who reluctantly assumed that we would not be celebrating Christmas this year. During the stay, we also received a couple of e-mails from Mary Kay with some 'secret' directions to be able to hike to a couple of interesting points throughout the park.

We would highly recommend this home to anyone else who may be planning a trip out that way.
