About Beth Harris

My husband and I are both engineers. We have 2 children. It took us 2 years with some contract help to renovate the cottage. Photo of our family with our dog. We love the outdoors. We love to share the outdoors and our home with others.

Beth Harris purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Beth Harris chose Saluda

We live close by. We wanted to be able to use Lake Sheila for swimming and fishing. Lake Sheila is a private lake. Perfect for swimming. Clear water. We enjoy building and preserving peace and experiencing nature at it's best - natural!

What makes this cottage unique

Peace, wildlife, camping feel without other tents around and all the nice amenities of a home. Lots of fish in the lake. No motor boats allowed. Perfect for swimming. Clear water. Canoe and paddle boat use with lifejackets provided. No additional charge. Boats are already at Lake Sheila ready for use. Expect to see some wildlife - bear, deer, fox, bobcat, rabbits, squirrel, many birds, bats, owls, frogs, fish and turtles, snakes and spiders too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Frank and I had such a restful visit. The cabin is wonderful, and the patio/firepit was where we sat the most!

Sumudge loved the woods! Walking through the leaves. We thank you for a real rest.

Very unique and private cottage. Beautiful stone patio with partial view of lake.

Nice recently redone cottage with woodburning stove. We were there three nights with two in the 20 degree temp range. Once the stove warmed up we were cozy as could be! Pet friendly! Very nice.

Wonderfully rustic and quaint

  • 4 of 5

This is a wonderful cottage for a mountain getaway! It was chilly and rainy while we were there, but the wood stove kept us cozy. We enjoyed fishing and canoeing in the lake with our Grandson. It was a steep hike back from the lake which our grandson thought quite the adventure. The town of Saluda is close by and would be fun to explore. We would definitely stay here again.

Peaceful & private

  • 5 of 5

Our family just spent 4 nights at 4 seasons cabin for a much needed get away from hectic jobs & hiking time for our pup. The cabin was very clean and positioned at the end of a gravel road with great views of the surrounding mountains & Lake Shelia. We spent most of our time outside at the fire pit enjoying the peace & quiet. Made some great meals in the drop down kitchen & enjoyed relaxing at night in front of the wood burning stove. Not far from downtown Saluda or Hendersonville if you want to venture out. Beth was great about checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed.

A Wonderful Month Spent in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cozy cottage while my wife was on a clinical rotation in February. The property was beautiful and the cottage itself was very clean and well supplied. We loved being so secluded but also being so close to town. We took daily walks with our dog down the trail from the house to the lake and spent our weekends hiking all of the nearby trails. We also took out the canoe a few times and caught a few nice bass. The outdoor stone area was where we spent most of our time, whether it was watching the sunset and grilling dinner or making s'mores under the brightest night sky I've ever seen. Beth was extremely pleasant to work with and made sure we had everything we needed. She is the best! This place is special and I would highly recommend for anyone looking to unplug and relax. We will definitely be coming back.

We loved the 4 Seasons cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a short 4 night get-away in the mountains to do some hiking in the cooler air (we live in Fl) and this cabin delivered! The property is beautiful, especially the detailed stone fire pit area & the cabin's location at the end of the road (near the top of the mountain). It's very private, which is great for people vacationing with their dogs! But IMO, the thing that really sets this cabin apart from others is the included use of a canoe on the huge lake (a very short walk from the cabin) We visited during a cold snap in March, but still ventured out on the huge lake (with our 2 small dogs) and it was phenomenal! Although we expected to go hiking on our trip, a canoe outing wasn't something I'd originally thought of, but was definitely a hilight of our vacation! I'd imagine it's even more wonderful during warmer months when you could also swim! The cabin is close to nearby trails- we went to Norman Wilder Forest just 15-20 mins. away and it was fantastic! We also walked the trail up the mountain, to the left of the driveway, when we didn't want to have to drive anywhere. Beth checked in on us through the VRBO app &/or text to ensure our arrival and on another day to see if we needed garbage pick-up & she is easy to reach if you need anything (she recommended a great nearby hike for us).

Other misc details... The cabin's wifi worked great for us and I appreciated the DVD movies available as I missed the background noise of TV more than I care to admit, lol! The fireplace was definitely used a lot during our stay due to the colder weather.. & as a girl from the suburbs, I have to say it feels oddly satisfying to master building & maintaining a perfect fire, but there are also space heaters in the kitchen & bedrooms in case you require a bit of a learning curve- It did take me a couple times to learn how to get a fire started efficiently, I guess I've spent my whole life avoiding a fire and assuming wood easily ignites into flames, but regardless, I felt like a pro by the 2nd day! A minor mention for my fellow OCD packers, bring a hair dryer if you use one & we were also glad we brought our manual can opener as the one at the cabin is getting a bit worn out, but I can't think of anything else you'd need that's not already there! My bottom line... This was a really fabulous trip and I have no qualms about recommending Beth's 4 Seasons Cabin! Happy travels!

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

My family visited for a quick overnight in the dead of winter. We loved the fire pit and made smores at night under the bright starry sky. We ventured down to the lake for a walk and to soak in the quiet of being so deep in the woods. The fireplace inside was plenty to keep us warm along with the space heaters in the rooms. We enjoyed playing cards as a family by the fire and cooking in the well equipped kitchen which also had beautiful view of the mountain ridges. There was already a fire burning in the fireplace for us when we arrived. Owner is very friendly and love that we were allowed a 1 night stay, as 3 night minimums are not as easy for this family to coordinate. We can't wait to return
