About the property

Townhome, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

This end unit town home is located in Sea Colony's Tennis Community. It is a 'gold rated' property with TWO MASTER BEDROOMS. The unit has 6 bikes and two kayaks available for renters to use. We are located across the street from the Kent Ave boat ramp to the Assawoman Canal. The first floor master bedroom has a King Bed and a jetted tub in the bathroom. The second floor master has a Queen Bed and a jetted tub in the bathroom. The last two bedrooms on the second floor have two twin beds in each and are connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom. One of these bedrooms has two trundle beds. This bathroom has an extra large shower. The loft on the second floor has a pullout sofa bed. Every bedroom has cable TV and a DVD player. Two of the four bedrooms also have a VCR. The house has an extensive VCR and DVD library. This house is very PRIVATE with a wooded area out the back and a bridge to Brighton Trail. The parking lot access is off of Kent Avenue. The family room has a 55" Smart TV and both master bedrooms have flat screen TVs. The Beach Shuttle is at the other end of the walking bridge (pictured) immediately out our back door. We are 5 blocks to the beach. Renters may use the house bath towels and linens for convenience. This avoids a large linen rental fee. Renters must wash and fold the towels and linens used before departing the property. Renters get 2 FREE parking passes (only 2 cars permitted per renter) and must purchase Sea Colony Recreation Badges. In 2016, the cost for Rec Badges is $40/week.

About Heather Gelting (Owner)

We are avid tennis fans and this is why we purchased a property in Sea Colony. The tennis coaches are wonderful instructors and there is always a court available for a match. We can walk or ride bikes to the beach!

Heather Gelting (Owner) purchased this townhome in 2005

Why Heather Gelting (Owner) chose Delaware

We bought this property because of its private location and floor plan. We have 3 kids and envision allowing each of them to bring a friend to the beach house. We love Sea Colony Tennis! The Community plans numerous children's activities to keep the whole family busy.

What makes this townhome unique

We kayak and bike every time we visit Sea Colony. The Assawoman Canal entrance is right across the street from our house!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for renting your home to us this summer. We had a great time and were very comfortable! Have a good school year!

Worn, needs good cleaning and updated window treatments

  • 3 of 5

Decent location and good extras-like kayaks and bikes. Proximity to Sea Colony exercise facility and tram stop was also a plus. But, the cleaning service is not doing a very good job-dirty toilets, tubs and floors. The stove is filthy inside and smells of old meals (? bacon). The carpet on the stairs and especially at the top landing is in desperate need of a cleaning. Quite a few lightbulbs were out in the kitchen/1st floor area. Ants invaded the front door area but I found a box of ant traps (happened before?) and placed them strategically inside and just outside the front door. Two of the bedrooms upstairs could use window treatments. We are active so enjoy getting a good nights sleep. But the front room and upstairs master suite do not have much (if anything) covering windows so the rooms get bright with first daylight. The owner is very responsive and available so it seems may not know about some of the issues with the property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback Bill. This is the first I have heard about the Ants. We have a pest control service and I'll call them to get a treatment. Also, yes, I do have planned to install window treatments in the upstairs MBR. The carpets upstairs are tough with renters and lots of wet feet coming and going. I do get stanley steamer in each year but I'll probably need to plan to simply replace those carpets with hard wood. Carpets are just a realy bear in rental properties. I'll get working on these and thanks for your feedback. I do hope your family had a fun week.

We loved our time spent here.

We had a great time staying at this home. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. Easy access to the beach. Quiet property at the end of the complex. Plenty of space for our family.

Spacious Home with Amenities - Needs a Good Cleaning

  • 3 of 5

My family and I stayed here the week of July 4th. Sea Colony is a great property, love the beach and amenities. This property is at the very end of the Sea Colony property, right off a main road and next to a power station. You definitely need to take the shuttle to the beach and are a good walk to any of the pools, which is not ideal if you have small children with you. The townhouse is large and well equipped with everything you need. My mom and I arrived first and were surprised to find that the property had not been cleaned very well (my family owned a condo in Sea Colony years ago, and I realize it is difficult for everything to be perfectly clean when you rent out your home, so I am really not being picky, the place was just really dirty). The bathtubs had hair, dirt and dust in them, the kitchen floor was sticky (it needed a good moping), and refrigerator had not been cleaned well. The coffee maker was filthy, we had to go out for coffee for a couple of mornings, it took us 2 days to clean out the coffee maker. The rooms were not even vacuumed properly, it was quite disappointing. My mom and I spent the first day cleaning before my brother and his kids joined us ( we definitely left the property in better condition when we left). I travel quite a bit for work, and also have stayed in many, many VRBOs; I definitely understand not everything can be perfectly maintained, but this property was really dirty. Also, fortunately, we had linens delivered, which was a good move. There is a stack of linens in a closet; however, you are relying on others to property wash and dry the linens before they leave. The mattress pad in the upstairs queen bed was missing, and the 2 of the comforters on the twin beds were ripped. Also, there was paper, sand and food crumbs in the upstairs bedrooms, not sure when these rooms were last vacuumed.

I did like that the property does come with bikes you can use, which is a nice feature. And, every bedroom has a tv, which is nice if you have kids. The kitchen is large, and there is a nice dining table for meals.

Overall, a nice and spacious home. It just needs some TLC and a really, really good cleaning (maybe a new cleaning crew).

Owner's Response: I'm the owner and very sorry for your experience. I don't know if the prior renter was particularly hard on the house or if the cleaning company fell down on the job that day, but this is not the level of service that I want my renters to expect. I rely on rental income to help pay the mortgage and help pay college tuition for my kids and will be sure to contact the cleaning company right away to ensure they take much greater care with the Saturday cleanings. Thank you for this feedback. I do take it seriously and will take action to prevent it from happening again. Heather

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in Sea Colony many times, and this by far was the nicest rental I have stayed in. I loved all of the decor and furnishings. It is very clean and modern feeling. At first I wasn't sure of the location, but ended up being ideal for our family. There is a cool wooden bridge behind the house that takes you to the rest of Sea colony. The kids LOVED riding their bikes over it to ride to the beach and tennis center. The house itself is very large and spacious. We vacationed with two other families and it was plenty of space. It is also in walking distance to the inlet where you can kayak.

Best house for friends and family

  • 5 of 5

I have been staying at this house for years now and the house suits both the needs of adventurous young people and families seeking a quiet vacation. The home is very private but connected to the Sea Colony community for tennis and Beach activity. The house has ample space for sleep and entertainment/leisure and having a garage with various equipment comes in handy when finding an activity for the day. Overall I would say this property strikes a great vacation balance of relaxation and fun.
