Classic Nantucket

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at this adorable little cottage in June. It is filled with charm from a simplier time. The location cannot be beat as it is only a 2 minute walk to the beach and a short bike ride to town. It made it easy to come back to for lunch or a quick nap for our toddler. The guest cottage was perfect for our aunt who stayed with us on the trip. It allowed for privacy, but togetherness all at the same time. I highly recommend this property if you are looking to experience quintessential Nantucket - a front porch, peace & quiet, amazing views, and no need for TV. We hope to make this cottage a new family tradition!

Charming cottage!

  • 5 of 5

It was our first time in Nantucket, and we thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at classic New England home. The location was perfect-- just a literal stone's throw away from beach access and a few minute drive to town. We and our young boys took full advantage of the provided bikes, which were in excellent condition. The boys also enjoyed romping around the backyard and exploring all of Nantucket's picturesque beaches.

Last, but certainly not least, the owner Steve was incredibly responsive and hospitable, both leading up to and during our stay. He made every effort to make us feel welcomed, and we appreciated that.

Hope to be back!

The little house that could ...And DID!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark, right after a rain storm. With my son-in-law navigating ( we had not been to Sachem Corner before), we found Hinkley Ln. and wandered up to find Sachem, turned in at the house, opened the backdoor, stepped in and it was literally like being Home. Since we did not stop for food - it's a long days trip from West Texas, we gathered up and went back, a very short trip, to town to get a bite at our "first day on-island tradition" restaurant, The Brotherhood of Thieves.

Back to the house. My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Etta stayed in the cottage, the little house as per Etta. All reported "perfect" for their small family. My wife and I as well as my other daughter settled in into the two upstairs bedrooms.

The large living area was perfect for the later evenings when we were all together. The kitchen and dining was great and also large enough for everyone to sit down and have breakfast together.

We discovered that the house was built in 1935 and Steve told me that his grandfather had built it. We live in a house that was built in 1937 and although very different styles it was great to experience those style differences.

The back yard was secluded and a great place to soak up the sun but the front porch was my place ...any time of the day. In the evening the sun going down behind the trees and the morning was quite enough to hear the ocean.

Speaking of the ocean, the stroll to the beach is nothing. We did it plenty of times and Etta had someone going with her to "the beach" as many times as she could.

Steve, says he'd love to have us back, so we have it on our list for next year. My wife and I have been returning to Nantucket since 1986, but we only found Sachem Corner this year, so we may have missed some there, it is at the top of the list for 2018.

Thanks Steve!

Classic ACK beach house

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location. House is spacious, comfortable, and beautifully well equipped with everything from bikes to gas grill to dozens of beach towels to all one could need in the kitchen. Not for visitors who want a spanky upscale property -- this is old-time musty Nantucket charm at its best, with lovely (but not overly precious or delicate!) antique furniture, great porch and yard. And Steve Reed is highly responsive and eager to make the visit a success.

Quaint and Homey

  • 4 of 5

This was our first visit to Nantucket and we loved it. Sachem was a wonderful surprise and better than the photos reveal. Was very clean and all of our needs were met with what was available on the property. Location was convenient to downtown and also to the beaches we discovered and became our favorites. We traveled with our grandson and his fiance and they stayed in the house and we stayed in the guesthouse. The stairs were too much for us in the main house. The beds were comfortable which was a relief for someone with back problems. The brick walk to the guesthouse was being worked on when we arrived. Would suggest another small step be installed at the guesthouse. The first step is too high and was problematic getting in and out. Would also suggest another mirror in the guesthouse as the one above the sink in the bathroom is very small. A heater there would be useful also. Other than those small suggestions, we were very satisfied and had a wonderful time. Thanks to the Reed family for making vacation 2017 a comfortable and enjoyable one. 2018 is on the drawing board and will probably be a return to Nantucket and Sachem.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the good review and for taking wonder care of Sachem Corner. I also appreciate the recommendations on how to improve the guest house. I was able to get the landscapers back out to fix the step to the cottage right away. I also put a heater in the guest house. I apologize again for the landscaping work occurring when you arrived. I asked my landscapers to repair the walk way this fall but they missed that detail. I do hope it was not too much of an inconvenience. We would love to have you back again next year. Please book early as slots are filling up already. Thanks Steve Reed

Perfect Balance of Convenience and Privacy

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. We actually walked to and from town multiple times, as well as to Jetties Beach area. The rental is only steps away from steps beach, which in itself is absolutely stunning. The widows walk provides a beautiful view, we went up a couple times each day. The house was well appointed with everything you would need. Perfect patio area for a cookout- hard to decide between a quiet night in vs. a night out downtown because it was such a comfortable and relaxing place. The guest house was great too, and honestly it is all we would ever need on the island! We would rent this place again in a heart beat.

About Steve Reed

My name is Stephen Reed. I manage Sachem Corner on behalf of my cousins and their parents.

I have been coming to Nantucket since I was one and lived on Nantucket from 88 through 91. I still have numerous ties to Island and make it down for at least two weeks every summer.

Why Steve Reed chose Cliff

Sachem Corner has been in our family since it was built by my great grandfather in 1934. In the late 80s I spent considerable time at Sachem. During that time I added the gardens and laid the back patio. I have a tremendous attachment to Sachem Corner and hope you will as well.

What makes this cottage unique

When you visit Sachem it is easy to imagine what summering in Nantucket must have been like in the 30s. Sachem Corner is on secluded dirt road. The many large original windows have great light and let in a lot of fresh air. The widows walk is a delight for children.
