We require a $100 security deposit to ensure guests strip beds, start a few loads of laundry and wash their dishes before they leave. This cuts down on cleaning costs.
NOTE: There is a legal renters' agreement and a water craft liability waiver that will be sent out to you and must be filled out with (among other things) the number and names of all guests to be signed and returned before the booking is officially finalized.
We hope you enjoy your stay in Cape Rosier Maine!
The first aid kit is in the downstairs bathroom across from the toilet on the bottom shelf where the towels are stored.
Boating here is for experienced ocean boaters only.
We require guests to sign a liability waiver for watercraft usage in advance.
There are two kayaks in the garage for your use. The canoe, blue boat, and white row boat are for you to use also. There is a Tokatsu outboard motor in the garage that is for the blue boat. If you enjoy being on the water please make use of these watercraft at your own risk.
We have had many wonderful picnics by paddling out to Western or Pond islands. There is a map and an oceanic chart here available for you by the television.
If you get over to Ames Cove, you might see sand dollars at low tide. If you have the means to transport the kayaks by automobile, feel free to do so. Holbrook island sanctuary has a nice launch site at Indian bar road.
Please be safe when you're on the water. The water can be very cold and will cause hypothermia. Often times in the afternoon the wind will pick up considerably causing large waves with whitecaps --no time to be out on the water with our small boats! Calm early morning is much more enjoyable and safer for boating. Also after each use please pull up the boats well above the high tide line to avoid them being washed away or battered by large waves. The outboard motor is a four stroke and takes regular gas; you don't have to mix oil with the gas. If you have to lay the motor down, place it on the tiller hand

Year Purchased: 2012
About: The owner and his late wife hired local architect Bruce Stahnke to design this off-the-grid house. His son (a master cabinetmaker) built it in 2012 to share with family. They enjoy bird watching fishing, boating, camping and exploring the nearby islands. He grew up coming here as a little kid on weekends and vacations with siblings and later his own boys. They would clamber and play on the beach all day and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Now they enjoy sharing this paradise with people from all over the world.
Why Brooksville, ME, USA:
This area has a lot to offer for people who love nature, forests, and the sea. We suggest you stop for groceries in Blue Hill before you get here because it's a bit of a drive to get them and you won't want to leave! There are two excellent food markets 40 minutes away in Blue Hill and a smaller one in Brooksville called Buck's Harbor Market with a great restaurant too. This location is safe, absolutely beautiful, quiet and remote. Relaxing on the screen porch with cold drink or taking in the sunset on the beach is a great way to end the day.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You might like to sample the remarkable local fare at Brooksville Farmers Market Tuesday Mornings http://www.mainefarmersmarkets.org/market/brooksville-farmers-market/ Also you may wish to call in an order for artisanal wood fired pizza to Tinder Hearth Bakery (Tuesdays and Fridays) (207) 326-8381 https://tinderhearth.com and pick up some currant scones or chocolate croissants for the next day's breakfast while you're there. A low key afternoon could include strolling the sidewalks of Castine village and swimming at Wadsworth Cove Beach just outside of Castine. Back in Brooksville, you will be able to see for miles after hiking up John B. Mountain Trail http://bluehillheritagetrust.org/john-b-mountain/ …Try a more formal dinner at the Brooklin Inn..Dancing at the Flash In The Pans steel band street dance (locations change but it's always Monday nights usually at the Blue Hill Town Park). Getting a Spiced Mocha at Black Dinah's Chocolatiers in Blue Hill. Galleries and antique shops are abundant and good. See a movie at The Alamo Theatre in Bucksport.
