This newly renovated and “custom decorated windmill” is divided into three floors, all with magnificent ocean views and connected by a curving wooden staircase. The first floor contains the kitchen, an eating area, and the master bedroom with a double size bed and private bath. On the second floor there is another full bath and two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with two twin beds. The third floor consists of a single large comfortably appointed room with nearly 360 degrees of ocean and mountain bird’s-eye views.
There are sweeping ocean vistas from the entire hilltop property, at the bottom of which stretches a wild non-swimming beach. The property is located in a rural area where you can relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean, or hike the many trails that wind through ancient dunes and coastal vegetation to the Salgado beach where you can walk, picnic, or relax and bask in the sun. Only 5 kilometers north and south of the windmill are the popular swimming beaches of Nazare and S. Martinho. The peaceful atmosphere is especially suited to those in search of a break from stressful lives, or people who enjoy hiking, reading, writing, painting, or simply observing nature.

The windmill started as a little family investment in a lost treasure on the Portuguese Silver Coast. We remodeled, rebuilt and gave it the touches that brought it back to life. Seeing the results and its happy disposition we were compelled to share this magnificent spot with those who have similar fascinations -- natural environments, unique architecture, nature walks, endless ocean views, charming Portuguese villages, unparalleled landscape and geology or simply just need to add color, fresh air and relaxation to their lives. Our family roots lay on this coast, thus there are generations that have enjoyed these surroundings and now we found a spot for our children and for our guests.
The Owner purchased this mill in 2009
The uniqueness of this property and surroundings were the main attraction. Staying in a windmill is an escape from reality a trip to fantasy and a perfect co-existence of minimal design without compromising modern efforts. The surrounding slops, sun-baked hillsides and wide open skies with panoramic views from every window over the deep blue sea all make for a magical setting. A paradise in the arms of the Silver Coast, indeed is why we purchased the windmill.
Quiet surroundings, secluded property, nature lovers paradise, wild beaches, endless walks and views.
"The Mill is absolutely breathtaking, my husband and I just needed to get away from it all and we made an escape from Barcelona to this paradise. We had a wonderful time visiting all the charming villages nearby ...Obidos is a MUST SEE. The beautiful sunsets we shared from the living room of the mill was like having front row tickets to your favourite concert...waking up, smelling the fresh air and looking out at the Silver Coast is a mental picture we will always keep. Definitely recommend this destination, we had never experienced anything like this Moinho do Mar!"
We stayed at this property for a week with our 5 children (ages 13 - 2 months) and were beyond pleased. The Mill is spotlessly clean and the views and the landscaping are breathtaking. We were able to fit in a variety of enjoyable excursions (even with 5 kids) with the Mill as our home base. Even better, we were so excited to come back at night and relax with the sea air and the spectacular views. There is something very special about this property!! Also, the owners are very helpful and kind. We would highly recommend this property!
We fell in love with the mill the moment we walked through its front door. It is beautifully decorated with amazing attention to detail and the signs of the owners' loving care written all over it. We were welcomed with beautiful flowers and a lovely basket of fruit and a bottle of wine. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms were modern and luxurious. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need and the whole property was sparkling clean. The views are breathtaking. It is very conveniently located - a short drive to three nearby beaches, 2 of which were particularly well suited for our 2 year old grandchild. It is within an easy drive to Sintra and Obidos. There are plenty of places to go for dinner within an easy drive's reach but we were so in love with the mill that we chose to eat in at the rock table overlooking the ocean and the sunsets most nights. We very much hope to visit again some day.
The Mill is an easy drive from Lisbon (hour and a quarter from airport) and we were greeted by Eduardo and Marta, who immediately made us feel at home. Our week was spent enjoying the comfort of the mill after a day of touring the area, with its many UNESCO World Heritage sites within a 90 minute radius - or walking along the beach. We found the book of comments by previous renters to be a valuable addition to the instruction booklet in the house, as we focused on sites enjoyed by other occupants. Excellent fresh vegetables and fish were to be found in the public market at Caldas (half hour drive), and these and all other necessities were also available at supermarkets in nearby Nazare.
Our recent visit and stay in the windmill and Portugal was not without a few adventures. Having the windmill to return each evening was heavenly. Our hosts were gracious and the windmill decor and landscaping showed care, hard work and attention to detail. What a breathtaking view from our vantage spot at the top of a small hill. At night the stars were easily visible and the lights from Nazare lovely to see. I am grateful to have met some wonderful local families and business owners. If opportunity presented again, I wouldn't hesitate to reserve this rental. Many memories made here in this area for my children and my mother.
We had a wonderful time at the windmill. There are breathtaking sunsets overlooking the ocean every evening. We took amazing walks around the area as well as to the beach. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Portuguese hospitality. We were welcomed as if we were family. In addition, the attention to detail both in and outside the windmill demonstrate how much love has been put into it -- with beautiful hand carved wooden furniture (done by one of the owners). It was clean, quiet, and close to wonderful villages. I'd say the photos don't even do the windmill justice. It is just a wonderful escape for anyone and even more beautiful in person!
My husband and I stayed here for two blissful weeks at the beginning of August 2012. This is a very special place. The windmill itself is full of character and the standard of cleanliness and attention to detail and was like staying in a five star hotel. The garden is adorable, beautifully tended and the perfect place to sit out and gaze at the most breath-taking views of beaches, sea and sunsets. This location has everything, peace and quiet, great walking trails, and also lots to see in the immediate surroundings, towns and monasteries full of history and stories. Plenty of great restaurants as well. The hospitality of the owners was so welcoming and we were given valuable tips whenever we needed them. We will definately be back.
