Great spaces from the kitchen to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The location in the village and views of the countryside were wonderful.

Wonderful Vacation Week!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this lovely home in Charlotte and enjoyed everything about it. The location is perfect for exploring Vermont and beyond. We took day trips to the Mad River Valley, Montreal, Middlebury and Burlington. We loved taking the ferry (just a few miles from the house) across Lake Champlain to NY for a day of hiking and exploring in the Adirondacks.

The house itself was perfect for our family with two grown children and friends. The kitchen is modern and well appointed and has everything we needed to cook meals. The bathrooms are spacious and the bedrooms comfortable. Our favorite thing about the house is the charming mix of old and new. The art, books and furnishings are fun and eclectic and made the house feel warm and homey. The views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks are spectacular. The changing color of the mountains and the sky at sunrise and sunset are a special treat each day, and at night, the lights twinkling across the lake are an added bonus!

Lucas provided clear instructions on everything that was needed, and promptly responded to emails. We hope to return soon, and I highly recommend this Charlotte home for a wonderful vacation!

Charming with breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over a long weekend in October and found the house lovely, warm and inviting. There is a market on the corner of the street and an easy quick trip to Burlington. I’d stay again in a heartbeat.

Charming house with view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this home. It was comfortable, clean and well equipped. Waking up to the view each morning was a gift. Charlotte is a quiet little town, but everything you need or want is close by.

Lucas checked in with us often by email to make sure we were doing well.

Highly recommend!

A lovely, spacious home true as advertised and reviewed

  • 4 of 5

The house is a sophisticated cottage-style as described by others: well laid out, eclectically but tastefully decorated with many modern conveniences such as a dish washer, cable TV and WiFi.

*If you don't like strong sulfur in your tap water (something I'd never experienced before and the cause of my deduction of 1 star) bring jugs of water for drinking and tooth brushing. My grown son didn't mind the sulfur at all.

*Bring soap for the showers and of course shampoo, etc. since these types of things aren't provided in the stalls. I was grateful that enough dishwasher tabs were provided for a week, the duration of our stay. We didn't do laundry, but if you bring detergent, bring HE-type.

*There is a large coffee brewer, but as the sole coffee drinker I'm glad I brought my french press for single cups; and bring your ground coffee. If you plan to cook a lot bring a saucepan or two. There are many frying pans, a spaghetti pot and a pan like a small spaghetti pot.

*As Mr. Adler warns the house is not for the feeble since all the bedrooms are upstairs. The wooden stairs don't have a railing at the upper part, and anyone with balance issues could have trouble.

*The house is in a lovely village but not the kind with side walks. Traffic in the area was surprisingly heavy and fast moving. While it's only one lane in each direction, there is no shoulder for safest walking or cycling.

*The Old Brick Store, a few steps from the house has wonderful fresh-made scones and muffins and basic pantry supplies plus dairy products. They also prepare breakfasts and lunches in a limited but probably tasty way.

*Shelburne Supermarket in Shelburne Shopping Park where Shelburne Road and Falls Road meet has not only basic supplies but lots of gourmet treats.

*Bijou chocolates in Shelburne is an artisanal, fancy chocolate shop --everything is so pretty and scrumptious. Address is 6221 Shelburne Road. Man can not live by Lake Champlain chocolates alone!

*Vermont is famous for its Maple Creemees (soft serve ice cream made with maple syrup). Burlington Bay Market, 125 Battery Street Street in Burlington (20 minutes from the house) has an excellent example.

*Hard Cider fans go to Citizen Cider in Burlington ( 10 ciders to try). A flight of 5 costs $7.00. The tasting room (bar) has a few food items and is found at 316 Pine Street.

Owner's Response: Andrea, thank you for taking the time to review my property. Detailed reviews like yours help improve the rental experience. Allow me to respond to your points. Regrettably, sulphur in the water is typical for Charlotte. I’m sorry your experience was tainted by it. The house has an elaborate water filtration system that eliminates the sulphur. When it doesn’t, the system needs maintenance, which has now been completed. Traffic by the house has increased in the last two summers due to road construction on Rte 7. Apparently, traffic should be back to its normal levels when construction ends early next year. At one time, there was a railing on the upper half of stairs. However, some renters complained about how it narrowed the stairway considerably. I will be looking into alternatives that will suit the wide range of renter expectations. I used to supply paper products, laundry detergent, shampoo, and soap. For many reasons, this proved untenable. However, in light of your review, I will reconsider supplying such sundry items. Finally, in your review, you write that I warned “the house was not for the feeble.” I believe this is a misunderstanding. I never said that in conversation, and it is not in the description of the house. To clarify: I alert potential renters that all the bedrooms are upstairs indicating that people with mobility issues will find the house challenging. Thank you again for your thoughtful, detailed review. It is regrettable that these issues tarnished your visit. To compensate for your inconvenience, allow me to offer you a discount on a future visit. Sincerely, Lucas Adler

Such a delightful stay

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home this summer. The eclectic style and interior architecture of this unique 1920's cottage has tastefully been coupled with modern touches to create a warm and comfortable setting that invites one in to enjoy your stay. You can certainly tell that Lucas takes pride in his home and wants you to enjoy your time spent in the house.

You certainly can't miss the gorgeous view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains from both floors. The sunsets we saw on a few occasions were spectacular!!!! The open kitchen/dining/sitting area was perfect for entertaining; especially when we had guests and family over for the evening. The bedrooms were nicely decorated; loved the spacious master with it's comfy chairs to see the beautiful views, the attached bath and closet space was appreciated since our stay was for a longer time period. Nice having the extra bedrooms and their own bath when we had visiting family members staying overnight. Another favorite was the outside bistro table and chairs where we could bring our coffee and morning paper out or to enjoy our afternoon wine and cheese etc. We did make use of the many entertainment features (WIFI, multiple tv channels to view along with his varied and interesting collection of books, videos and CD's to choose from. Since we had many of our meals in house, the kitchen was ideally set up to easily accommodate this. We also loved having the Brick Store close by along with a lovely library and deli down the road. It's location is perfect for touring around the state and it's so nice that Lucas has many brochures of places to visit and locate restaurants etc. in the area. All in all, this stay was the best we've ever had when we have come back to our home state for a summer stay.... can't beat the beauty of Vermont!!
