About Richard Persek

Our family was raised on Long Island but when the summer came we headed for the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains. It was a great change from the city for us boys. We could fish, swim, and explore from early morning till night. And at night we usually had a campfire. It was always a great family vacation.

Richard Persek purchased this lodge in 2003

Why Richard Persek chose Adirondack

Adirondack and Beaver Pond in particular offers 340 acres of private land shared by only eight lodges. In addition our home is on the lake next to the private dock and picnic pavilion.

What makes this lodge unique

The lake is great for fishing and canoeing. In addition, we have private hiking trails that we also use for ATVs and snowmobiles. We can see deer and wild turkeys crossing in front of the house going to the lake or grazing up the trails. In the Fall we go hunting out the back door and up over the mountain and into the 10,000 acres of Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area. And at night sitting on the deck, we enjoy the absolute silence and the brilliant stars filling the sky. When we feel like tourist stuff, we can go down to Lake George or up to Lake Placid. We have everything you could want for a summer break.

Peaceful quiet retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in your nice, clean, spacious log house on Beaver Pond. The family enjoyed being on the lake in the kayaks we brought and also riding their quads on the State property adjacent to the house. We also enjoyed using the fire pit in the evenings and star gazing on the large deck!

Very relaxing vacation and enough room for everyone to spread out! Wifi was an issue for the kids but not so much for me as I got to finish a book I was reading! Kitchen had everything we needed and we used the grill almost every night.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments. The air was repaired as soon as we were notified that there was a problem. Next season we expect to use satellite for internet access rather than the DSL that is currently installed. We hope to see you again next year.

Charming getaway house

  • 5 of 5

Went with my sisters for our annual "sisters' vacation" and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is comfortable, clean, very attractive and feels very cozy the moment you walk in. We always like having a well stocked kitchen for breakfasts and when we decide to stay in vs. go out for dinner, and the kitchen was exactly what we wanted. The master bedroom on the second floor is spacious and has a very large, clean, attractive bathroom. We were there when it was quite hot, and even with the air conditioner on, the master bedroom is a bit warm, but there is both a ceiling fan and box fan available. The other two bedrooms on the first floor were nicely furnished and comfortable. There is a very spacious deck with comfortable chairs and a table with an umbrella where we sat every night having our glass of wine and looking over Beaver Pond -- so relaxing and peaceful! You are definitely remote, so if you like quiet, out of the way, this is the place for you. Figure about 12 minutes to get to Route 87. We chose this place because it was somewhat equidistant to Lake Placid and then south to Saratoga Springs, so we spent a day in each town and had a great time. There are no restaurants in Brant Lake but some good ones about 10 minutes away in Chestertown, Pottersville, and Schroon Lake. Wi-fi is very sketchy in the house even if you do follow the instructions to unplug and restart the modem, but not being always "connected" is not a bad thing! I would say my only issue is hauling away our own garbage - I do feel that you need to respect the home, keep it clean, make sure it is in good order when you leave, but having to cart your own trash is a first time event in all my rental house experiences. Other than that, we had a great time and thought it was a great getaway for us.

GREAT time

  • 5 of 5

Was a great trip and awesome house to stay at. Very clean but one thing the binder with the info says that the dump is NOT open on Saturdays but someone told us it was and when we went there it was open. NOT very cool to pack the garbage in the car to take there. I suggest the cleaning people should take it for the guest. That is why we pay a cleaning fee. (just saying) Also I think that book needs to be updated. Directions to the dump were not correct. Also the railing on back deck is loose so be careful. Other then than LOVE this house. Thanks for the awesome visit... I would recommend this house to all my friends and was thinking of coming back next year again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. The dump changed their times recently. We will take care of the book. Glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Richard

Peace and Quiet in the Adirondacks!

  • 5 of 5

This log home is very well maintained and is nestled into a nice and peaceful area. The appliances are modern and there is laundry service in the basement. Both the owner and the realtor provided answers to any of our questions and were prompt in their responses. If you like to observe nature (we saw chipmunks, deer, ducks, an eagle, loons and a crazy osprey that liked to dive-bomb the water in search of a meal), then this is the cabin you've been looking for!

There are a few neighbors down the road (if anyone is staying there) and there are many 'regulars' residing on the main road, lakeside. Many were very friendly and polite when conversing. The owner has provided a large flat-bottom row boat which can be used on the pond and there is a sandy area to hand launch kayaks (if you bring them). The fishing was decent, depending on your target species. We caught bluegill, perch, crappie, chain pickerel and very healthy Large Mouth Bass (a tale of caution though, certain locals are very protective of 'their' bass). Don't plan on catching a few for dinner in this pond (we had very good luck catching dinner in lower Schroon Lake).

This property is on a private lake and located in between Brant Lake and Schroon Lake and the roads in are in fairly decent shape, many have been recently resurfaced. There are some local attractions and places to hike as well as some restaurants in Schroon Lake. We mostly used the grill on the deck, which is provided.

My only comment even close to a complaint would be the firmness of the mattresses, I would recommend bringing a mattress pad if you prefer a softer bed. If you like a firm bed, then you'll find it very comfortable.

I would recommend this cabin to friends and family and would definitely consider another week the following season! Thank you for allowing us into your beautiful cabin!
