About Mike

Property has been in the family over 40 years. We are second generation owners. We take great pride in keeping the property clean and neat.

Why Mike chose McKinney Estates

Lake Tahoe is truly a year around vacation paradise. Summer weather is ideal, seldom getting above 90 degrees. Fall colors are wonderful! Winter wonderland with skiing from slopes where you can view one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Springs are cool, with the melting snow filling the creeks. A true wonderland!

What makes this cabin unique

Property is close to many things to do. Hiking out the front door, sandy beach about 3 miles south. Alpine skiing 5 minutes in winter, and close to many more throughout the Lake Tahoe basin. Within walking distance to the trailhead of the world famous Rubicon Trail. Nevada casinos a short drive. Reno is about one hour away. Boat launching nearby. Several California State Parks along the west shore of Tahoe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cabin was perfect in every way. It is well kept, very easy to rent, and priced very reasonably. It is easily accessible off the main road (HWY 89), and located in a very quiet neighborhood. The owner, Mike, was a pleasure to work with, and made it so easy to rent (keys sent ahead of time, email explaining where everything was and how it works, notes in the cabin with excellent directions, etc.). Without a doubt the cabin was the most up to date and well equipped rental we have ever stayed in. Everything worked as expected, and we literally didn’t need to bring anything (including books, video’s, snow toys, plenty of linens, etc. – it even had electric blankets on each bed!). We will definitely recommend this cabin to our friends, and will stay there again in the future.

Home away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We booked this beautiful cabin for our Christmas vacation and we are leaving with some great memories. This place has everything! We were delighted by how clean and perfect everything was. It made us feel right at home. The cabin is very spacious and the large windows in the living room give a great view of the sky. The driveway was clear of ice and snow while the house was nice and warm for our arrival. This place has everything covered from internet to family board games. Hiking trails and stores are very close. The cabin is in a very quiet and secluded neighborhood surrounded by many trees. The owner was very responsive and left the best instructions you could hope for. We definitely found our goto cabin when we visit Tahoe again. Thank you Mike for sharing your beautiful cabin with our family.

Cozy winter spot

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin. Terrific location and incredibly spacious and well-equipped for 8 people. The fireplace was a nice perk in winter and it was close to several ski areas that we visited. Clear, thoughtful instructions and communication with owner before visit. I'd recommend highly.

Perfect for our family!

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cabin served our 6 (3 kids) perfectly. Comfy, well stocked, plenty of lounging room, snow toys, games & puzzles. Furnace works great. House is solid (no creaks) and location great for kiddos to play outside. Mike was responsive and easy to work with. All the requisite appliances and electronics, plus a jacuzzi tub to relax exhausted bodies. We would love to come back !

Beautiful cabin! So cozy and had everything you could possibly need. Very close to Meeks Bay.

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed a relaxing stay at this cabin. We were minutes away from Meeks Bay. Cabin full stocked with amenities. Very cozy. My daughter especially loved the loft area.

Last minute score!

  • 5 of 5

Not sure how we lucked out, but we decided last minute to take the family to Tahoe for a few days for my husband's birthday and before school started back. I can only guess this cabin was available because of a cancellation, because there was very little available for me to choose from and after our stay, I can't believe this place hadn't been snatched up. All my fears of getting the "leftovers" disappeared as we drove into the driveway. The cabin is very cute and perfectly maintained. You can see the pride of ownership immediately. The inside has been updated yet still has that cabin feel. The inside was spotless--so kudos to your cleaning company. They do an excellent job. All instructions were clearly marked around the cabin. For some reason the wifi stopped working the first night so we reset the router and that fixed the problem. There is no cell service up there so I'm glad there is phone at the cabin for emergencies--even with wifi you can't call or text. I was able to I-message our older son who stayed home the cabin number in case he needed to get in touch with us. The beds were comfortable. I liked the loft area for the kids. They had their own bathroom and tv. There are games to choose from, books to read, and movies to watch. All family friendly. The house is up in a neighborhood so the boys played catch in the street while we bar b qued in the front yard. Again, everything was beautifully maintained, clearly marked, and easily operable. The place is centrally located on the West Shore in Homewood which was perfect for us because we had decided that we wanted to go to Emersld Bay one day and Sand Harbor the next so this was midway to both of those places. The Rubicon trail is literally out the front door and around the corner. We explored that a little bit but didn't have time to hike to one of the nearby lakes. (For another time!). Overall this was an excellent rental that we would definitely use again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and taking the time to submit it! The cabin has been in our family for 48 years and we treat it as our second home. We don't consider it a "rental." We take pride in keeping it clean and as up to date as possible. We're glad that your family enjoyed your brief stay. The cabin does have unlimited calling, both local and domestic long distance. It's unfortunate that most cellular services don't have a strong signal along the West Shore. We advise all our guests of this weakness in the access information that we send via email and regular US mail prior to the first night of occupancy. We also appreciate your comment on our cleaning service. They have been cleaning the cabin since 1997 and they really do a good job. We have forwarded your comment on to them. We look forward to having you again. The cabin is available throughout the year.

Short Summer Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had four adults and two small children, and this cabin worked out very well for us. The kids enjoyed their beds in the loft, and the adults used the two down stairs bedrooms. Nice location for easy access to all of the west side of Lake Tahoe. The cabin is away from the main road, so it was nice and quiet. The owner promptly refunded our security deposit after our stay, which was greatly appreciated. I only wish VRBO had not been taken over by Homeaway, as the VRBO fees have increased significantly, and Homeaway has made it much more difficult for renters to communicate with property owners. The process is not nearly as user friendly as it was before the Homeaway takeover.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your stay! We are second generation owners of the cabin and take great pride in keeping the cabin current. I would agree that the communication between owner and guest is not as open and friendly as before. As an owner, I can't send an email address or a telephone number to a prospective guest; I can only communicate through the HomeAway/VRBO messaging system until a guest books. We look forward to having you as our guest in the future. Mike
