Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

In the morning shadow of the legendary Nou Nou Mountain, amidst rainbows and waterfalls in the pastoral Wailua Valley, this private country home offers the feel of old Hawaii. It's central location is perfect for exploring the spectacular garden isle of Kauai.

Within a 10 minute drive you can hit the beach, catch a wave, kayak a tropical river, hike the rainforest, climb a mountain, explore historic sites, water ski, hit a golf ball, bird watch, play tennis, horseback ride, mountain bike... whew! Or just relax and sleep late and awake to a symphony of birds in a lush tropical setting at the Sleeping Giant Cottage.

This one bedroom cottage is spacious and private with three large lanais (porches), and is surrounded by a beautiful lush yard with a wonderful variety of tropical fruits and flowers. It is not connected to any other home and is not part of a compound - for those who seek ultimate privacy and comfort, this is the perfect choice. In fact, we specialize in longer stays.

Here is what our guests are saying:

'We needed rest, relaxation, and privacy - a home away from home in the country, not a hotel room. Sleeping Giant Cottage was perfect. Surrounded by tropical plants, light and relaxing inside, with cool breezes, the smell of rain at night, birds to wake us in the morning and wonderful accommodations. This was our fourth visit to Kauai and our best. We look forward to our return. Thank you.' Dave and Barbara, Glen Ellen, CA 07/2000

'This is a lovely, quiet retreat. A great escape from the maddening crowd!' Steven and Sissel, Berkeley, CA

'What a find! The privacy, the peace and quiet, the bird songs, the cat's bell, the sound of the palm trees in the wind - perfect!'

Diane and Phillip, London, England

'A peaceful tropical paradise! Loved all the amazing tropical plants in the garden and the views of the valley and mountains!'

Everything you could want. Beauty, charm, private and convenient. My every need was met.

  • 5 of 5

The ambiance and gardens are beautiful. The cottage is perfectly equipped. I was near enough all the lovely Kaui'i attractions to enjoy them. But also secluded enough to find an old Hawaii peace and tranquillity. Kapa'a is a delightful town and easy to get to in minutes. The cottage is fresh and beautifully maintained, and the owner is friendly and helpful if you need anything. I would love to stay at Sleeping Giant Cottage again and will always cherish the experience.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 2 wonderful weeks at the Sleeping Giant cottage and loved it! Clean, comfortable, it had everything we needed! Loved that it had a full kitchen...saved $$$ by making some meals at home. Great location...a quite neighborhood on a lush lot with lots of trees & plants! Centrally located between the north and south shores, and Kapa'a is a great little town near by. So much to do on the island...you won't be bored!

Quiet and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

What a great spot for enjoying the island in a non tourist climate. We spent a week at the Sleeping Giant Cottage, and loved every minute of it. It is located in a quiet neighborhood cul de sac street within walking distance to a trailhead to sleeping giant trail. The area is very quiet. We couldn’t tell there was anyone else around without looking outside and seeing lights on at neighboring houses. There is ample space for more than one vehicle to park on property.

The house itself is very comfortable. Furnishings in the living room and covered patio are easy to sit in and enjoy. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is compact, but functioned well. The kitchen was in need of some updating and has no dishwasher, but again, everything was in working order. There is one large flat screen television in the living room, with Directv channels. The large washer and dryer are very convenient.

The owner, Rick, was very easy to work with. We met him partway through the week. He came by and gave us a wonderful tour of the yard at the house, which is arrayed with beautiful flora and fauna. It was a mini botanical garden! When the weather is accommodating, the yard is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the outside.

What a Cozy Place

  • 5 of 5

This is almost the perfect place. Centrally located but away from everyone. A nice hike is just down the road. The kitchen has everything you might need. Overall we were very excited when we opened the door and remained happy and relaxed the entire time.

A home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the pleasure of staying at this cottage while we searched for a permanent home on Kauai. The owner is a most gracious and thoughtful host who went out of his way to ensure a memorable experience. The cottage has a real home feel to it. Clean, comfy, and beautiful as well as convenient location.

Lovely

My husband, brother and I stayed here for 9 days. The cottage is 1-bedroom, but has a large screened lanai which can serve as an extra room or second bedroom (Rick provided an air mattress and linens, in addition to the comfortable and plush king bed in the master bedroom). With the windows and screen doors open, the cottage is like one big lanai. The cottage includes several guidebooks and field guides, plenty of space for relaxing. We spent our days exploring the island, and this cottage's central location was a great for that. We were also off the beaten path, in a rural area near some farms, but about 5 minutes drive from the nearest store and 10 minutes from Kapa'a town. The sound of chickens (hens *and* roosters) is ever-present, so if you are a light sleeper you can either bring earplugs or close the windows. We were able to cook all our dinners and breakfasts in the cottage. Area farmers markets, food trucks, and roadside stands kept us well supplied with local fruits, fish, goat cheese, taro bread, local coffee ... you name it. Check out the website kauaimusicscene for live music events all over the island. And be sure to visit the best "townie bar" of all time: the Pau Hana Bar & Grill, near the Safeway in Kapa'a.
