Great lakefront place.

We love the cabin feel and enjoyed being on the water. The hot tub was great, and it’s lakefront, just 10 minutes from the golf course—a perfect weekend getaway!

Perfect quiet spot!

The property is wonderful! A quiet spot nestled in the trees. We had an amazing time enjoying the lake during the day and having a bonfire at night. The house had plenty of room to spread out. Also it is not too far to have a few day trips to other places. All and all an amazing place to get away!Highly recommend.

3 nights/4 days flew by so fast

This is a wonderful small lake. All of us could not get over the perfect temperature. Always refreshing never hot, never cold, just perfect. Despite the heat, we sat in the 3 season room a lot too. Our adult children and our friends teenage children are already asking when we can go back. One more thing...this is the best host you could ever hope for. They have provided so many extras to make our stay even more enjoyable.

Amazing winter wonderland!

Beautiful winter views and relaxing environment! This home was great! It was well stocked, clean and very comfortable! The hot tub was very clean and had great views of the frozen lake! The owner Nora was very easy to work with and very accommodating! We even had the opportunity to try our hand at ice fishing, which was a nice surprise! Highly recommend! Close to good restaurants, breweries, and wineries!!

Wonderful Stay - Peaceful & Tranquil

We had a great weekend away at Mona’s lovely property. It is close to great wineries and restaurants, but just relaxing at the house with the lake, fire pit and tranquil scenery is wonderful as well. Hope to come back soon! Thanks for a great stay!

Great weekend getaway

It was a great spot for a weekend with friends. We loved the hot tub and fireplace. The tucked in location on the lake was perfect. It was easy to get anywhere we wanted to go for the weekend. I can only imagine how great it would be in the summer with full use of the lake!

Rustic getaway close to Chicago

This place is absolutely amazing, smack dab in the middle of some of Michigans finest wineries. Mona is very hospitable and very attentive to detail, the lake house is amazing. The decor and well kept property will have you feeling so relaxed and comfortable, my wife and I stayed for Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed ourselves so much we are already talking about going back. I highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed.

Much needed get away

Highly recommended house in a beautiful setting. The home is quiet, and peaceful. The lake is beautiful and the water is clean. A great place for a romantic get away. Lots to see and do, winery's, national parks and good restaurants. The owner provides great service and great information about the area. I will definitively consider visiting again.

Relaxing getaway

I had a wonderful winter weekend with my boyfriend and our dog. The property is at the end of a road, so there is a peaceful feeling of privacy. With a backdrop of a wooded hill, a serene lake, and a hot tub tucked away in trees, it was a perfect oasis. It was very close to wineries. We will definitely be back!

Secluded home away from home = Great Escape!

Where do I begin? Our stay was...perfect. The house, the lake, the attention to detail far surpassed my expectations. From early morning swims to late night bonfires, we (5 adults and 2 dogs) enjoyed every moment. And 'Thank You' M for the prompt return of our forgotten laptop! ;-)

Excellent in every way

Beautiful home, beautiful setting, sooo peaceful. Great for a family gathering. Loved the lake, hot tub and cozy fire pit setting. Really everything you need is there. Beds, linens, towels, kitchen amenities and games galore! Was great having beach towels, boats and fun beach stuff for the lake. We ended up staying in and cooking 5 out of 7 nights. Wineries are biking distance away (and delicious!). Mona’s welcoming info was so helpful too. Would definitely recommend and stay there again!

Perfect Anniversary getaway

Wish we could have stayed even longer. Good communication with Mona & speedy correction of concerns or answers to questions. Loved swimming in the private lake, or just sitting on the dock. Close to multiple activities of choice, perfect scenery of vineyards & orchirds on the drives. Wish we could have used the upper deck, but understand rationale-- same type of cocerns with my childhood home. Would love to see the addition of a railing on the stairs down to the lake.

Fantastic Lake House Getaway

Sanctuaire exceeded expectations for our family! Perfect Lake House getaway! The property is all in the name. Peaceful, quiet, and rejuvenating! Sunrise in the spa was the greatest way to decompress and reset. Families will have a memorable time fishing, canoeing, swimming, playing board games, and exploring. Mona is timely in her communication, personable, and knowledgeable about the local hot spots! We cannot wait to come back to this gem! Thank you again for sharing your home!

A week of family fun

Had a lovely 7 day family vacation. The oldest 81 and the youngest 9. The location afforded relaxation for everyone. The "Welcome Gift"... a complimentary bottle of wine was a lovely gesture. The house was well appointed, the pantry and spice cupboard stocked. The four seasons room was spacious for dining and family game nights. The beds were comfortable and plenty of towels were provided. The hot tub was clean, the lake calm and peaceful. Beach towels for everyone was also very nice. It was fun to get out in the boat and catch a few fish with my folks and paddling with my son in the canoe was awesome.. Overall... A great time and a great location!

Weekend Family Getaway (with dogs and friends for kids)

We packed the house on the weekend of February 24, 2023 and everybody loved it! We had 2 adults, 5 kids and 2 dogs. We did not feel cramped. The house itself is lovely and it is situated on a beautiful, quiet lake where the houses are set back. The hot tub was fantastic! It is a short drive to Warren Dune State Park and Weko Beach in Bridgman, which is a great dog-friendly beach. The house is also so close to Dablon Vineyard that you could walk there. Also, the host was very kind and helpful. We highly recommend!

Fall Family Peaceful Retreat

Lovely home. Stunning location. We were very comfortable. Well appointed kitchen. Great linens and pillows. Cool woodsy hot tub with changing colorer lights. Fabulous correspondence with owners. Easy check in and out. Highly recommend morning coffee with sunrise on the dock. Note: the upper balcony attached to master bedroom is not accessible - our only disappointment with the property. Perfect for all ages - our group ranged from 25 to 55. Loved the wineries, beaches, dunes, trails and fun shops nearby! Mona is a delightful host and gave us some excellent recommendations for food and fun!

Very nice but descriptions of luxury are a bit exaggerated

We had a nice time here with our family. It is a lovely home and we very much enjoyed the peaceful setting and the hot tub. However, the description in the listing is a tad exaggerated. It is a very nice cottage, but it isn't the pinnacle of luxury. There is no "deep jacuzzi" tub in the master bathroom, just a normal bath tub. The "small gym" is basically a closet with a weight bench. It does have a crib, but it is by no means child-proofed. There is a gap below the stair railing that a small child could fit through. There was also an axe for decoration that was on a table at child-level. All in all, I would recommend it, but temper your expectations.

Sanctuaire is a fantastic place. It is lake-life perfected.

Our family of four (with two young boys) had an absolutely wonderful time at this beautiful property. It is just as described, if not even better. The home is in a heavily-wooded area and very private. The lake is beautiful—clean and no loud motor boats. It was a perfect swimming lake, and the floating dock was so much fun. We also enjoyed the canoe and fishing from the dock. Wildlife was everywhere: deer, turtles, frogs, a variety of fish and birds, and other creatures that were huge attractions for our city kids. We enjoyed fires in the cool evenings in the beautiful stone fireplace, and we roasted marshmallows in the firepit. We rode our bikes for miles and tasted amazing local wines and beers along the way, along with farm stand peaches and veggies. We also rode our bikes to nearby towns for wonderful lunches and breakfasts, but that was about the extent of our adventures away from the property. We had everything we could want right there. This property is, simply put, a beautiful place on this earth and a perfect place to make fantastic family memories.

We give you, our guests, the personal touch from the moment you make your reservation. Renting our vacation home has been a fantastic experience—largely because of all the interesting guests we’ve hosted! How else would we have met famous authors, sommeliers, not to mention the dozens of other families and friends who have made 'Sanctuaire' their home away from home for many years. We bought the property many years ago as a 'retreat' and extensively renovated the house to feel like homes in Aspen, Colorado- yet closer to Chicago.

We’re avid outdoor family of hikers, swimmers, sailors, snowboarders, skiers and kayakers!

Why they chose this property

We love the location- very close to Chicago and our extended families in Michigan! It's quiet, secluded and private on a wooded 1 acre, away from the tourists in Union Pier and New Buffalo. There is a cleansing and wellness energy about the place that is simple and peaceful and in connection with nature. It feels far away from urban life. We fell in love with Sanctuaire since it is blessed with magnificent natural beauty and located in the one most popular and desirable locations in Southwest Michigan. Sanctuaire is surrounded by clear, natural spring waters with towering dunes and numerous wineries!
Sanctuire is nestled in the heart of Michigan's wine country. Sanctuaire is home to some of America’s favorite vacation and recreation locations. What makes this property unique

We truly want our guests to love Sanctuaire and the surrounding Southwest Michigan area as much as we do! As we are skilled chefs, we equipped the kitchen to feature everything you would need to prepare a great meal. We also love our private and clean hot tub overlooking the lake! We have guests who have never traveled to Southwest Michigan and are sometimes a little nervous and so I try to make them familiar before they arrive by knowing what to expect.
