Renovated Train Station on Thoroughbred Horse Farm

Bedrooms 2
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Farmhouse, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Come stay in our newly renovated 1890's train station in the heart of the bluegrass.

We are on a working thoroughbred horse farm right off Paris Pike, one of the most scenic areas in all of Central Kentucky. Drive by Gainsway and Elemendorf farms on the way to Claiborne farm. 15 minutes to the Kentucky Horse Park, Fasig Tipton, close to Keeneland and the Lexington area attractions.

Hutchison Station was part of the L&N railroad system between 1890-1950, it still has the original hardwood floors, 12' ceilings and much of the original molding. In its heyday it included a post office, livestock loading platform, general store and blacksmith's shop. You can read more about the station house in 'Ghost Railroads of Kentucky'. Many of the original families still live in the area.

Area activities include a 9 hole golf course within walking distance, and a short drive to many 18 hole courses, horse farm tours, historicl sites including Shakertown, Mary Todd Lincoln House, Henry Clay Estate, Civil War battlefields and much more.

We have easy access to I75 & I64 and are located 1/2 way between Lexington and Paris.

About Steve Parkes

Lisa and I run a Thoroughbred horse farm where the Station House is located. We live on the farm, Lisa since she was 5 years old. Farm duties involve the breeding and raising of thoroughbred horses. Lisa and her father raised and raced their own horses off this farm.

Why Steve Parkes chose Kentucky

This property has been part of the family farm since the 60's.

Perfect, perfect, a little slice of heaven.

Lovely, and furnished perfectly. It's obvious the owner put a lot of thought into the planning of this unit, beautiful molding, floors and decor, comfortable beds and easy kitchen. I might only suggest they put salt and pepper, maybe some sugar in the kitchen. Outside of that you really wanted for nothing. Glorious view of rolling hillside with horses and a sweet pen next to the unit with 2 adorable, friendly donkeys. Highly recommend.

Spacious retreat on a working horse farm

  • 5 of 5

Wickliffe is a well equipped, 2 bedroom condo in a renovated train station. The pictures accurately show the owners horses coming to the paddock fence that is next to the building's driveway. The condo in question is the left side of the building in the picture. It is on one floor, but has impressive 12 foot ceilings. The property is on a quiet back road that is an easy drive away from Lexington, Keeneland racetrack, the Kentucky Horse Park, and numerous distilleries. We only wished we had planned to stay longer so have more time to explore the beauty of the area.

The hosts are very friendly, responsive to any needs, and are happy to let you feed carrots to the horses or donkeys on the farm. We highly recommend this condo for your stay in the Lexington, KY area.

Great location that made you feel like a local!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect location for our visit to horse country. Steve and his family made us feel more than welcome with suggestions before our trip on tours, home made cookies on arrival and a hand written thank you note on the door since they hadn't caught us in person. Waking up every morning in the middle of horse farms set the tone for the day.

The house is walk around in bare feet clean and beautifully decorated. The owners provide toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap and a bar of soap in each bathroom to get you started. You will have access to a full size fridge if you need it, though the small one was perfect for us. The stacked washer and dryer is a great plus.

Do be sure to bring a hair dryer if you will need one.

Check out is 10am. You do NOT need to strip the beds, start a load of laundry nor take out the trash at this rental when you leave. Just start the dishwasher. This is a big time saver!

Tip: You can book horse farm tours yourself at the visithorsecountry website (don't miss Claiborne farms!).

Comfortable Place in Horse Country

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice, comfortable get-away in the middle of horse country. And Paris is close enough to Lexington (and a beautiful ride) so everything there is easily accessible.
