About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8 total; 6 adults max)

Our mountain cabin is the perfect getaway for couples and families. Lovingly cared for and tastefully decorated, our 3-level, 1400 sq. foot cabin has an open floor plan with floor-to-ceiling windows on the main floor and spectacular views of Colorado's highest peaks and beautiful Twin Lakes (the largest glacial lakes in the State). Views are as good from INSIDE the cabin as they are OUTSIDE the cabin!

The main floor has all hardwood floors with an open, fully furnished kitchen and new appliances; large dining table for cozy family meals with a view; living area with a comfy couch, TV, gas stove, and two leather recliners; French doors opening out to the deck; a newly remodeled, spacious bath with tub, shower, and plenty of storage; and a mud room for storing skis, backpacks, and outdoor equipment.

The lower level has stone tile floors with two large bedrooms--one with a queen bed and one with a full bed; a quiet sitting area with TV, French doors opening out to an outdoor patio, and a half-bath/laundry room with washer and dryer. The upper level has hardwood floors, a master bedroom with a queen bed that has views of Mount Elbert (from bed!)and a separate sitting area. The sitting area can be closed off and has a futon for extra sleeping space.

Our cabin is on a half-acre lot with trees, a small fenced yard off of the downstairs patio (perfect for small to medium dogs, with prior approval). Aspen is a scenic 43-mile drive over 12,095-foot Independence Pass, Colorado’s highest paved pass, where you'll find fabulous summer activities, like the Aspen Summer Music Festival and great bars and restaurants. Historic Leadville is 19 miles away with affordable dining, shops, and museums. The tiny town of Twin Lakes, 2 miles west, has a restaurant and cafe. Fabulous hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and cross country skiing are available in all directions. Boating activities on Twin Lakes and fly-fishing on the Arkansas River are only minutes away. Lively Buena Vista with restaurants and brew pubs is only 23 miles away.

About John Stetson

We are empty-nesters with two grown children. We have finally realized our dream of owning the perfect cabin nestled in Colorado's most beautiful high-country. Our dog, Sienna, is our constant hiking and cross-country skiing companion. We love the Twin Lakes area year round - spectacular above-timberline hiking in the summer and champagne powder for skiing in the winter! Lake County has more cross-country ski trails than any other county in Colorado, and perfect conditions all winter! We can't stay inside, because there is too much to do outdoors!

John Stetson purchased this cabin in 2009

Why John Stetson chose South Central

We have stayed in vacation rentals all over Colorado and picked Twin Lakes because of its spectacular views and the availability of every type of winter and summer sport. We take advantage of music, art, and fine dining in Vail and Aspen and enjoy the historic charm of Leadville. Our cabin is a two-hour drive from Denver, which allows us to use our cabin frequently on weekends. The cabin feels cozy for just the two of us, but has ample space for our family gatherings. We aren't in a city--we are in the MOUNTAINS, and our cabin feels like a real getaway, far from the crowds, traffic, and chain stores/restaurants that have recently infiltrated other mountain communities.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy the best hiking and cross-country skiing Colorado has to offer! We are 45 minutes from Copper Mountain, where we enjoy down-hill skiing in the winter without any traffic. We visit Mount Princeton Hot Springs with its outdoor pools and spa services year-round. We visit Aspen for high-end shopping, fabulous music, gourmet restaurants, and people-watching.

Perfect for our Mount Elbert climb

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is cozy and has breathtaking views of Twin Lakes. The location was perfect for us, as it was a short drive to the Mount Elbert (and Mount Massive) trail head. We bought basic groceries and ate a couple of meals in Leadville, which was also nearby. We didn't spend much time in the cabin due to the long day climbing, but I would definitely like to come back for a weekend and just enjoy the serenity. The views are INCREDIBLE and the deck is perfect for watching sunrise, sunset or the night sky. I highly recommend this cabin for anyone looking to enjoy Leadville, Twin Lakes or the surrounding areas. The owners are very helpful and have stocked kitchen basics as well as some basics for recovering if you were hiking or climbing. You won't regret staying here!

A beautiful mountain lake getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay at Treehouse Cabin. It's charming, cozy, immaculately clean, and very well appointed. The setting is peaceful and the deck provides a perfect place to sit and take in the views with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The owners were easy and enjoyable to work with. Next time we are in Twin Lakes, we will definitely try to stay at Treehouse Cabin!

Cute cute cute

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the tree house cabin during our Huron Peak adventure. John was so accommodating leading up to the trip. The thing that stands out the most was all the detail and decorative touches around the cabin, making it very inviting and comfortable. We really enjoyed eating and lounging on the patio and made use of the gas grill and well-equipped kitchen. This was a perfect set up for our dogs, with the balcony to watch chipmunks from and the fenced yard. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Great vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Our family (parents and grown children) stayed at the Treehouse Cabin for six nights. We used it as a base for exploring the area and chose it based on favorable reviews from others. Our travels took us to Independence Pass (hiking), Buena Vista (rafting, shopping, sight-seeing, dining), St. Elmo (sight-seeing), Salida (sight-seeing, dining), Leadville (mountain biking), Mount Princeton (hot springs), the Aspen area and Maroon Bells Wilderness (hiking), Carbondale (sight-seeing, dining), and Twin Lakes (dining). It was great to have a place to come home and fix a meal if we were too tired to go to a restaurant. This cabin is really a small house, well appointed with everything needed to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, and it is very clean. There is a washer and dryer and a dishwasher. It is obvious the owners are proud of this property and give it good care. The pantry is stocked with enough food to get by until you can buy groceries. One last thing--the views of the lakes and mountains from the balcony or from any window are really, really, beautiful, at any time of day. I am confident you will enjoy the Treehouse Cabin as much as we did.

OUTSTANDING!!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our stay at the Tree House Cabin, and it was one of our best vacations ever. The cabin is cozy, immaculate, and just all around perfect. There is plenty to do and see in this area of Colorado, like hiking, fishing, horseback riding, or just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery!! Love this place, and hope to return someday soon!!
