This beautiful house is located 6 km North of Montanita on top of a small hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it provides peace and relaxation like no other, located within a family owned property it is very private and lovingly taken care of. The beach which is one of the most beautiful in the coast is at 5 minutes walking distance down the hill and has a private access. 10 minutes by car is Montañita, a very eclectic little village with a very cosmopolitan atmosphere and lots to see and do, Montañita is mostly known as a world class surfing destination.

Long walks on the beach, surfing, whale watching during the summer months and many other activities are possible in the area. The house is perfectly located to be used as a base to explore the coast North and South. The nearest international airport is in Guayaquil which is at 2.5 hours by car.

Little Piece of Paradise in Curia

This lovely home and area was a great break for my family over Christmas. We enjoyed staying here and felt safe and taken care of for our complete stay. The views were spectacular and the sound of the ocean in the background was beautiful. We would for sure come back here again. You can’t get a better location as it is quieter but within a short driving distance of Olon and Ayampe. The beaches are long and clean and the water was so warm and inviting. We walked down to the beach daily that was only a 5 min walk. The housekeeping service that came with the house was very much appreciated. That left us more time to rest and enjoy the area. Overall a great experience.

This is a great place!

The previous two reviews say most of what we would say. We simply want to add a few things. We just stayed there for the third week of October, 2011. It was a totally positive experience. We never met Bernardo but spoke with him on the phone. (He lives in Florida) Julio was fantastic! What isn't mentioned is we stayed in a smaller place on the same property that is perfect for a couple. The cost is less and hopitality is the same as described in the previous reviews. The transactions with Bernardo were top notch, very fair and honest. We can't say enoungh good about the experience.

Terrific Experience!

Not only was this house beautiful, but the owner and staff were unbelievably helpful and accomodating! We made several special requests (including home-cooked meals, laundry service, pre-stocking the house with groceries) and each were handled expertly! We had no trouble getting local taxi service- it seems all drivers knew the house location. Though there was no central air conditioning in the main living area, there are plenty of fans and windows, Each bedroom has it's own AC unit if necessary. We would DEFINITELY stay here again!

I would not recommend for Families with small children or people with mobility issues

We booked this place due to the high ratings it had. It looked perfect and was advertised as 5 minutes from the beach. The location is over a steep hill, so it was 5 minutes in a car, as you also need to cross a busy street. Our group had 5 kids (10, 7, 5, 4, and 1), so that would have been very difficult to go to the beach walking with all of them. The person who runs the place was very responsive and accommodating as well as the person who cleans the house daily. These are all the issues we encountered: 1) Toilet clogged. It was resolved quickly but the other bathroom has a weird smell so I am not sure if there is a plumbing issue 2) They have moths that made holes in two pieces of clothing. My bed (I had one on one of the lofts), was full of little balls of something. I asked because it seem like sawdust and the person in charge of the house confirmed they had moths and that it was probably that. 3) The lofts are Ok but very steep for little kids to go up and down. One of the staircases does not have a handle, so my niece (who is 4) fell down from it. We spent one night and then decided to book another place. We did not talk to the person in charge about leaving because at that point we wanted to rescue the rest of the days we had and we had enough by that point. The service is great, and the house has a lot of great qualities, being quiet and well decorated. They have ACs in all the bedrooms and they are all new. The surroundings are peaceful and the kitchen is well stocked. I just feel it needs some work, but I would not recommend it for families with little kids.

Das Haus war Super, wir wurden durch Gilson und Elia ganz toll betreut. Da es sehr heiss und feucht war, hatte es viele Mücken, auch im Haus. Der Weg durch das weisse Tor zum Strand war ziemlich vermüllt, wir nahmen danach einen Weg über ein brachliegendes Grundstück. Wir haben den Aufenthalt im Haus sehr genossen. Die Küche war sehr gut ausgestattet. Nur den Gasherd fanden wir gefährlich, da der Anzündknopf nicht funktionierte, vor allem wenn man den nbackofen anzünden wollte musste man sich auf den Boden legen, einer bedient den Schaltknopf, der Andere hat das Feuerzeug.....

Amazing!

This is a beautiful home, on beautiful property! We loved that it was just far enough from the hustle and bustle of Montanita, yet close enough to reach it when we wanted to with a few minute taxi ride. The caretakers are also wonderful and very responsive.

A beautiful beach and adequate house.

After reading all of the previous reviews I was prepared to be wowed by our little vacation in Curia. The beach is beautiful and very clean. The town is quiet and feels safe. The house was fine. Not amazing, not spectacular (as many of the reviews suggested), but fine. It met our needs. Yes, it is stocked with adequate dishes. It was nice to have use of the washer and dryer. I did not feel that it was SUPER clean as some of the reviews claimed. When we arrived I asked for some floors to be redone and for hair to be removed from one of the showers. It felt like a rustic beach cabin with the heat, bugs, and sand/dirt that you'd expect to find. There is no A/C and we really suffered at night. Both of the bathrooms have plumbing issues which is kind of gross (one shower doesn't drain well and one toilet doesn't flush well). The rooms of the house are smaller than pictured. Yes, the personal (Bernard and Gilson) were excellent. Overall, it was a fine beach trip. I would love to give it 4 or 5 stars, but that would be a dishonest representation.

a great escape!

La Casa de Curia was the perfect place at the end of busy trip. The layout of the house allowed our group of 6 adults just the right amount of privacy and togetherness. The location just a few minutes from Olon and Montanita gives the option of hanging out with others, or the peace of your own private beach. Life's essentials are available just a minute down the road at the shops in Olon. The house itself benefits from its placement on a hill, as others mention, with refreshing breezes, the sound of the ocean waves, and plants and trees surrounding the house keeping it cool and comfortable. We also felt very safe. The house is beautifully maintained and very well supplied.

Close to everything but away from it all

La Casa de Curia is the absolute perfect homebase for exploring a bit of Ecuador's Ruta del Spondylus. The house is very comfortable and was ideal for our group of 5 (although it could easily accommodate more). It's location high on a hill allows you to take advantage of the refreshing ocean breezes, while being close enough to the beach to hear the crashing waves. And with access to a private and nearly deserted beach just a short walk down the hill, you might not want to leave the property at all. Once you do get motivated to leave, there is much to do and see within a short drive. Montañita's party scene - if that's your thing - is an easy (and cheap) cab ride away. Personally, we preferred the more peaceful vibe on the beach in Olón, where a row of beachfront restaurants serve up delicious fresh seafood and cold beers at unbelievably affordable prices. Don't miss the ceviche de ostra sold from the little cart - it seriously doesn't get any fresher. One of the highlights of the trip was watching local fisherman pull up their catch on the beach while the enormous frigates and pelicans swooped and dove to get their fill of fish. Amazing! But much more amazing than the house and it's incredible location are the people you will meet at Casa de Curia. Don Julio was incredibly helpful to us and I am so glad to have met him. He truly went above and beyond for us, especially when my daughter had a little surfing accident and split her lip. I was so worried that she might need stitches, but Don Julio knew just who to call (it seems he knows everyone and everyone knows him) and she got treatment within half an hour. I cannot thank him enough for his kindness. I would simply add that you can book this house with confidence, knowing that you will be in excellent hands during your stay. We will definitely be back. Thank you Bernardo and Don Julio.

Best Trip Ever!

Highly recommend La Casa de Curia - beautiful views, amazing home and great locations. You will not be disappointed when staying at La Casa De Curia. Truly a memorable experience and can't wait to go back. Wedding Getaway

La Casa Grande is very spacious and comfortable. The location is great, a few minutes from Olon and the beaches of Montanita. The private access to the beach is kept clean and we walked no more than three minutes, the beach is beautiful, quiet and clean. We enjoyed our time in Curia, it was wonderful not having to worry about cooking, for a small fee you can enjoy delicious food. The venue of the wedding was five minutes away, so convenient for us. The property is beautiful and well taken care of. My children enjoy the beach, however, if the house had a pool it would be even better. We would definitely consider coming back. Don Julio was of great help, he is very friendly and informative.

Time to Relax

The beach house was spacious, clean, comfortable, and inviting. There were five of us adults with two cars with plenty of parking. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes. We loved lounging on the porch, relaxing in one of the three hammocks, playing cards and drinking wine/beer at the table on the porch, and we appreciated the safety and privacy we felt. Julio and Elena (probably misspelled), the housekeeper, were friendly, happy to help with anything, and checked on us daily. The house is near a grocery, near Montanita, a party beach town, and a five minute walk down the hill to the beach. It was nice to have Wi-Fi to keep up with friends back home. By the time we left, we truly felt like it was home away from home. We loved it!!!!

A wonderful, relaxing weekend!

La Casa de Curia was perfect for us, a family of 5 (2 parents and 3 adult children). Julio, who is Bernardo´s father and lives in his home on the same property, was beyond helpful. We did not have a car, but he took us quite a few times in his own car to pick up groceries nearby in town. He made sure that we were always well-stocked with bottled water, as well. Besides these logistics, the location and home were absolutely beautiful! The home is very comfortable and could have slept many more. We were a very short walk from a quiet and gorgeous beach. The perfect place for a family to relax and enjoy the coast of Ecuador!

Relaxing with excellent view

We were picked up at the airport by Rodrigo holding up a sign with our names on it and he drove us to the front door of la casa. We were greeted at 2:00 am by Julio the property owner and given a quick tour. With the windows open, the cool breezes flowing and the ocean sounds acting like a natural sleep aid, we soon found ourselves totally relaxed and dreaming. The house had plenty of room and was well equipped. The location was close to the action and travel hot spots but secluded enough to provide total relaxation and comfort. The house and grounds keepers were efficient and friendly and when our son's flight was cancelled Julio sensed our anxiety as we had no phone and our son had no internet and he fired up his magic jack and invited us into his home until the travel challenges were resolved. He stayed in contact with us until he arrived. He is a charming and considerate gentleman and was available anytime to assist in our needs. We look forward to returning soon.
