About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms + Den, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Our family summer home for 25 years, Highpoint is a generous, comfortable family summer place and is beautifully furnished with antique wicker, summery stylish fabrics, fine antiques, brass beds, and a dining room table for 10 or more. With it's lovingly updated country kitchen and new appliances, Highpoint offers the best of old world style and today's comfort and amenities.

This gracious, 3-story, (6 bedroom, 4 bath) Victorian grande dame, is situated prominently looking out over Sorrento Harbor and across Frenchman's Bay to the curving shapes of Cadillac Mountain and Acadia National Park.

Located in the old, establishment summer community of Sorrento, Maine, a summer vacation at Highpoint is a safe, private, and idyllic dream for children and adults alike. Generations of families have summered here, and still do, building traditions and memories one year at a time.

Here you'll find group tennis for adults (with separate lessons for children), competitive class sailboat races alternate with the quite repose of reading a book in the gazebo or inside on an overstuffed down sofa. On any given evening you might find an after-race cocktail party on a neighbor's front porch as the sun sets and see teams of children during “Library Night” canvas the village homes for treasure hunt items, searching for everything from a porcupine quill to a 1953 penny.

The century old Village Improvement Association, or VIA, offers a wide range of summer activities in July and August, from sailing, tennis, croquet, swimming, Camp Sorrento, to children's overnights, and golf at Blink Bonnie. The VIA dues are not included in the rental price but are modest and available on a weekly basis. Please inquire.

For such a low-key, relaxed vacation spot, there are many things to do without leaving town. The Blink Bonnie Golf Course offers 9 holes of stunning beauty overlooking Treasure Island and Flanders Bay. A brand new croquet court and pavilion are one block up the hill from Highpoint and there are sociable, potluck dinners held weekly in the Library community room just up the street, where afterwards someone might show a film of their recent climbing of Mt. McKinley.

And, if this is all too much activity, you can always just sit in the gazebo, or on a bench down by the water, read a book, and enoy the peaceful, quiet stunning beauty and the view.

In the quiet little village of Sorrento, there is only a boatyard, a post office, and the town dock. Ellsworth, the down east market basket is 20 minutes away and offers all the conveniences and services one could need.

Lovely location. Spacious house. Access to Acadia and Downeast.

  • 4 of 5

Sorrento is a quiet spot on a sheltered harbor. The home offers beautiful views. Walk down the garden path and over Ocean Drive to the gravel beach for a swim. Acadia NP is within a reasonable drive. Points further "Downeast" are also within striking distance.
