Ballard House Rental Photos and Description

Private Entrance Home with 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, Sleeps 2 - 4

Like like a local in Seattle's neighborhood of Ballard, located 15 minutes north of downtown Seattle. Historic Treat House, was completely renovated in 2008 with 100% new construction, including radiant heated floors and other traveler amenities.

Treat House is owner-occupied by our family on the second floor and we welcome you to our home. We built Treat House as a vacation rental completely renovating the first floor to include everything you need. Many of our guests enjoy the piece of mind and safety made possible by an owner-occupied vacation rental. With that in mind, we are very mindful of your privacy, especially while on vacation, but are here in the event you need anything.

We are located in Loyal Heights, which is commonly referred to as Ballard. We are also a short 4 minute walk to Caffe Fiore which has been voted "Best Coffee Shop in Seattle" 10 years in a row! Also, most of Seattle's number one tourist attractions are located about 1 mile away from Treat House to include the Ballard Locks, Saltwater Beach at Golden Gardens, Ballard Sunday Market, and Fishermen's Terminal which houses "The Deadliest Catch" fleet of crab boats. Ballard has received numerous awards and recognition as Seattle's best neighborhood for walkability, dining, safe and friendly neighborhood, and many of the cities best attractions.

Live a part of Seattle's history and enjoy the ocean (Puget Sound) when you stay at the former property of 'Harry W. Treat'.

Located 7 miles North of Downtown Seattle, and just a 15 minute walk to the ocean (Puget Sound) you will find a quiet oasis filled with activities. We respect your privacy, and invite you to your own private suite and outdoor area located in our home.

Please find information on Harry W. Treat and the ocean park just a 2 minute drive, or 15 minute walk below:

The park was named by and developed by Harry W. Treat in 1907 as an 'attraction' at the end of the new electric car lines being built by realtors to induce townfolk to take a 'Sunday outing' out of town and through the woods to a picnic or swim at a beach. (Along the way they were made aware of the real estate available!) The Carbine ended at Loyal Way (& 85th) with a steep twisting dusty path down into the park - or those owning a 'tin lizzie' could drive down a dusty county road (approximately the present drive entering the upper park from the north) and down to a small parking area on the east side of the railroad tracks, then by foot across the tracks to the beach.

At that time the northern half of Meadow Point (named by the Coast Guard) was the site of a shipyard until 1913. To the south the beach curved in along the railroad seaway - all the way to Salmon Bay. The State owns the tidelands south of the park, with boat works and yards by the Bay.

Thank you and we look forward to meeting you.

About Darrell Kirk

The owner of 'Treat House' enjoying the Puget Sound while hunting for 'Dungeness Crab'. 'We are very fortunate to live just minutes from the Puget Sound and have created a lifestyle around it. We love Salmon fishing, Crabbing, and watching all the wildlife in and around the area.' 'We have also taken up the sport of 'Stand Up Paddling', a new type of Surfing where you stand up on the surfboard and paddle. They just opened a 'Stand Up Paddle' shop about 3 minute drive from our home, so guests to our home have had the opportunity to try this new sport. Some of the pro riders in the area watch the ship and freighter schedules closely so they can surf the wake these huge ships produce as they ply their way from all parts of the world into Seattle' 'We never get tired of the 'Ballard Locks' which is about a 3 minute drive from our home. In addition to the 2 locks, there are large, wonderful gardens there. In the Summer you can hear a variety of bands in the 'Summer Concerts at the Locks'. Watching the large and small boats go through the locks is amazing and I have had the opportunity to see an entire house go through on a barge. They tilted the house via ballast in the barge to tilt the entire vessel. On another note, I would have loved to have seen the large 'Sturgeon' fish my wife saw in the locks swimming with hundreds of Salmon. The Whales have also come closer to the area and I saw 3 large pods of Killer Whales just off the shore about 20 minutes north of our home. Back to the Ballard Locks, there was a large whale spotted just near the locks feeding on Salmon just a few months ago.' 'We are jaded living here for almost 10 years now and forget how beautiful a place this is until we talk with guests who visit. It is just wonderful reliving our first times here through the eyes and stories of our guests.'

Darrell Kirk purchased this house in 2001

Why Darrell Kirk chose Seattle

We love this area which is near the 'ocean' (Puget Sound) and also appreciate the friendly neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

Short walk to Puget Sound and Salt Water beaches at Golden Gardens Park

2 minute drive to downtown Ballard, Seattle's most popular part of town.

3 minute walk to Caffe Fiore, voted #1 coffee shop 2 years in a row.

Several bus lines are located within 2 blocks of Treat House.

Enterprise Rental Car is located less than a mile away. In addition, they will pick you up from Treat House and drop you back off.

Neighborhood is very quiet and you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Olympic Mountains throughout the neighborhood.

There is ample parking in the street and this unit also has a private parking space near the entrance.

A poem was written by one of our guests and sums up the Treat House Experience:

So Happy Up Here

Walking in mist for the morning news; Thoughts drift along to older mews. Not long ago a playground for Treat; Horses and hunting dogs kept a beat. Then up to 85th the trolley ran; Houses rose as they cleared the land. Loyal was born that very same year; The neighborhood was christened with a cheer. Treat blessed us with Gardens by the water; The beach bore the name of his daughter.

Sweet aromas from Larsen’s fill the air; Then The Fresh Fish Company, what a pair! Up hill and down the school children go; Every shade of the rainbow they glow. Mom, dad or caregiver at their side; Love watches little feet scamper inside. Nights so quiet and sidewalks so clean; Not far above the Ballard Ave. scene. On the walk back, friendly faces abound; So happy we ended up in this town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a poem written by an out-of-town guest who stayed at Treat House. The poem was also entered into a competition here in Seattle. It so epitomizes Treat House and the neighborhood:

6 Years and Counting

We've probably stayed here 10 times over the past 6 years or so, and haven't found a better place. Quiet, comfortable, and convenient. Daryl is great host. Highly recommended!

U of W Parents

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time to stay at Treat House. It is a great location for us to visit our sons at U of W. Easy 15 minute (yes, there is Seattle traffic - but it is a relatively easy drive) commute to the University or downtown. The accommodations are exactly like the pictures and description on the site. We really enjoy the homey feel and the radiant floor heat. My favorite part of the stay is my husband walking to Larsen Bakery for my morning pastry! You sometimes do hear the families' footsteps upstairs, but it is never enough to be annoying. We look forward to staying at Treat House again over the next four years until our last son graduates.

Clean apartment, comfortable bed, close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. Ballard is a cute neighborhood with a lot to see and do and about a 15 or 20 minute Uber ride to downtown Seattle. The apartment was clean and just as advertised and we slept great on the comfortable bed. Darrell provided a great list of things to see around the area and helped us with whatever we needed. Thanks for having us!

Wonderful place to stay in Seattle!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The property was well maintained and offered all of the comforts of home. The location was great, away from the hustle and bustle of the city but easily within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, coffee shops, and more. Darrell is an excellent host with tips on things to see and do in the area plus the historic background of the house and the Ballard area.

Looking forward to a return trip and to stay here again!

great stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this property. It is perfect for us because we have family in the area and grandkids that come to us for a visit while we are there. This is the bottom part of the house with the owners upstairs so if you ever need anything, they are right there. They have always been pleasant and helpful to us. The place is very spacious for my husband and I and still spacious when our 3 young grandchildren came over for a visit. It is clean and neat. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom has a lot of light (which is usually my complaint about hotel bathrooms). This is like a basement apartment with cement type floors but still very comfortable. It is not luxurious, but a very comfortable stay. We plan on staying there again.

Owner's Response: Hello, Pam. Thank you so much for staying with us again and for your lovely review. I just wanted to mention that the unit you speak of has marbleized concrete floors that keep the unit very cool in summer and warm in winter as they are a radiant heating system. Also, the unit is not a basement as it is about 6 feet above street level and on the ground floor. We do not have a basement, but we do live upstairs above the unit. Again, thank you so much for staying with us and we hope you will visit again in the future.

Loved our visit!

We had a wonderful time. This is our first time using VBRO and we couldn't be happier. This place was cozy and very comfortable. We enjoyed meeting Darrel and his family and their neighbors. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We highly recommend staying here. And it's very easy getting everywhere by bus.
