Castello Montegiove is a fairy tale come true. Just below the Castle’s wall, the olive mill, with its pair of grand, two story apartments, invites you to be part of the enchantment.
Umbria is beautiful; the hill towns captivating and the cities renowned and interesting. But those are only some of the reasons you should book this property as soon as possible. This is an extremely comfortable one-of-a-kind family retreat. It is equally perfect for a couple’s getaway.
In each of the spacious olive mill apartments, where once farm laborers produced rich olive oil, today guests can enjoy modern, luxurious and comfortable lodgings. The pictures on the website do not do the apartments justice. They are magnificent. Imagine high speed internet access in the thirteenth century stone vaulted living room. Everything is tastefully decorated and carefully appointed.
The huge barrel ceilinged kitchen and dining area is equipped with top quality equipment, china and glassware, as well as a dishwasher. The glorious kitchen speaks to the chef in each of us and encourages meals that take advantage of Umbria’s culinary specialties and complement both the wines of the Castle and the surrounding regions. Somehow Puccini seems to be the appropriate theme song.
What makes this so special are the young owners and their generous hospitality. The master and mistress of the Castle, Lorenzo and Rikke, were thoughtful and welcoming in so many ways – from the awaiting food basket and the accompanying bottle of Castle Montegiove wine and tin of olive oil to knowledgeable suggestions on what to see and where to visit. Lorenzo, a PhD agronomist, inherited the Castle and its many acres. He and Rikke, a gifted and talented clothing designer, are working to bring new life to the Castle and its land. The vineyards and winery are in production again. The groves of olive trees are fruiting and producing oil. Cattle, a breed that dates back to the Romans, have returned to the Castle’s pastures.
If the Misciatellis have time in their busy schedule, you might even be privileged to tour the Castle, their home, to learn about Lorenzo’s family, see the frescoes discovered beneath layers of paint and hear tales about the Castle’s history.
Trust me. If you want to make a memory, stay at Castello Montegiove.
