About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Living area, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6)

JUST REMODELED! This beautifully decorated home has just been remodeled both inside and out as of July 2012, see pics below...

This home is located in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the Atenas area. This home features a private deck and pool area, great views of the central valley and is surrounded by one of the nicest gardens to be found in town. This home is located in a gated community near the small town of Atenas which is only 20 minutes away from the Juan Santamaria airport in San Jose, 45 minutes to the nearest beaches and 20 minutes from downtown San Jose. This home sits at the top of a ridge overlooking the green hills and lush tropical landscape below. It is located inside a protected forestall reserve with luxurious virgin vegetation as well as lush gardens surrounding the property. Beautiful trees and flowering plants offer guests a powerful mixture of colors and privacy. The adjacent hills are dotted with luxurious vegetation, including many species of precious trees like the Guanacaste and Matapalo, flowering trees such as the brilliant orange Poró and many fruit trees including mangoes, limes, bananas, papayas and oranges. A wildlife corridor extends from the Rio Colorado, and white-faced monkeys, sloths, anteaters, and birds including toucans and trogons are regularly seen from the villas.

The site is mountainous with fantastic panoramic views: to the northeast, the Atenas Valley with Póas, Barva and Irazú volcanoes in the background, to the southwest the Rio Grande Valley and to the east, the Central Valley with thousands of lights coming alive at nightfall.

The house has been constructed with a Balinese tropical architecture style in mind. The home is divided into two separate structures featuring open floor-plans, peaked rooflines, deep covered decks and patios and visually-open wood and glass walls.

One of the two main structures has two large master bedrooms, one with a large hot-tub with jets and another with a large shower separated by a smaller third room with a bed and hide-away second bed, while the second main structure features a modern kitchen with all appliances, a living room with panoramic views of the pool, porch and valley area. Within this main structure there is also a separate den/study area and a breakfast bar and dining area.

The home has a large wrap-around porch and inviting pool. The porch area has rustic furniture and pool chairs for your leisure. This is a great area for use of the gas grill and to enjoy some meals outdoors as well as relaxing paths to the garden area or walks in the neighborhood. The lush garden area will add to your enjoyment. You can relax in our large pool with ambient temperature that is located between the two structures.

This neighborhood is an architecturally distinctive development nestled in an environment of pristine beauty allowing for meaningful interaction with nature and the local culture.

You will enjoy visiting the town of Atenas that is known for its friendly and helpful people. Visit the outdoor market that offers delicious local fruits, vegetables, and seafood or dine in one of the various cafes or bars to taste the local food specialties. Or just go and sit in the peaceful Central Park and visit with the locals or just watch the people go by. In addition, Atenas has been ranked by the National Geographic Magazine as having one of the best climates in the world!

Why Andrew Partain chose Atenas

We initially experienced living in other areas of Costa Rica and later found that Atenas had more peace and tranquility with a better climate. No air conditioning or heating needed here. Atenas is more strategically located to enjoy all the things people like to do. There are many exciting places to visit on relatively short trips to the beaches, volcanoes, tropical gardens, zoo, or just having fun exploring.

What makes this house unique

Begin each day with the sounds of different birds singing nearby like one of the many Toucans. Enjoy watching them feeding on the property. Relax around the pool or in one of our lounge chairs just relaxing or planning what to do. Enjoy seeing the wildlife coming to our wonderfully landscaped gardens at the back of our house. Go on some interesting hikes on trails near the property. Be amazed at all the interesting photos you can take to record your visit. Enjoy a cup of the locally grown coffee is always a plus.

Perfect location that your in a store in town in 5 minutes but wake up in the morning in the middle of the woods with volcanoes and mountains in the distance and toucans and all kinds of wildlife to enjoy. The house was incredibly built with prestine gardens. Geronimo, who helps take care of the place was awesome. Him and his family live close by and would do anything for you. Also, Andrew made everything incredibly easy from the booking, to directions, all the way through until we left.Great people. We will definitely be back!

We could not say enough good about this place, the photos don't do it enough justice and the service was outstanding, Andrew and Nelson so helpful. Our only regret is that we're not staying longer 😥

We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful setting, all the amenities you need. Gardens are lovely. Spent time relaxing by the pool watching the birds. Nice walk in the neighborhood. Location on the mountain overlooking the valley is fabulous. Great view. Our property manager Andrew was wonderful. Very helpful. Would stay here again.

Superbe maison dans un décor exotique

  • 5 of 5

A perfect place to stay in Atenas

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our youngest son stayed while we visited our older son who is doing a semester abroad at the School for Field Studies - 10 minutes away. The place was perfect. We arrived late in the evening and sat on the patio and said how the only thing that would make it even more perfect would be the sound of a waterfall. The next morning, a water fall popped on at the garden wall - on a timer.

The place is spacious and comfortable and staying there was a great experience. The pool and gardens are amazing. The sunrises were spectacular and visible from our bed. The location was great for day-trips to Jaco, great hiking areas with waterfalls, the cloud forest - though a bit of a drive. There is grocery store nearby and a couple of good restaurants. The people in Atenas (and everywhere we visited in Costa Rica) are so nice.

Andrew was great to work with. He even filled my grocery list since we were arriving after stores close. Everything was waiting for us when we arrived. When we asked to stay an extra night, he made that easy to do. If we get back to the area, we will definitely stay there again.
