About the property

Cottage, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Come and enjoy a country getaway at the Broody Rooster Guesthouse and Gallery. The guesthouse is a charming cottage in the popular Cedar/Yellowpoint area just 15 minutes south of Nanaimo. Located on a small farm, the guesthouse is a unique, stylish cottage with all the amenities you need to getaway from it all, yet remain within reach of urban amenities.

As you drive down our long driveway, you will likely be greeted at the fence by the horses. Outside, the cottage has a large front porch with seating where you can enjoy your morning coffee and view the sun coming up over the pasture. Inside, the cottage boasts restored fir flooring and stained/leaded glass windows throughout which let in lots of sunshine. The open concept layout and 14 foot high ceilings provide plenty of space. Gather some fresh vegetables from our garden and use the large kitchen to make your own meals. Watch the ducks swim on the back pond as you do the dishes, or feed the chickens your leftovers out the back gate. There is always lots of activity going on at the farm and you are welcome to watch and enjoy.

The cottage is tastefully decorated and fully equipped with everything you will need on your vacation. There is a queen size bed plus two additional futon type beds (a double and a twin) to sleep a total of 5 people. All bedding and linens are provided. You can catch up on laundry by using the washer and drier or try using mother natures drier - the clothes line (a rare amenity in todays world).

While at the cottage, you are in a perfect location to enjoy numerous day trips north and south to popular attractions in Chemainus, Ladysmith, Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum. Or, just stay at the farm and read a book, relax, take a hike at a local park or cook up a meal with ingredients from the garden.

Yellowpoint/ Cedar is a rural area south of Nanaimo where long winding fences, pastures, century farms and markets are abundant. Each Sunday from 10 - 2 pm, a popular flea market takes place at the Cedar Community hall, 5 minutes away. Or on Saturdays, the local farmers market is at the Crow and Gate Pub, about 6 minutes away.

The area is known for its concentration of artisans - check out the Cedar/Yellowpoint Artisans for more information and take a week to visit them all!. The Broody Rooster is a gallery for six months of the year displaying paintings and photography by Nicole Vaugeois, owner of the cottage.

Many come to the area with their bikes to cycle the country roads and visit artisans or stop at local pubs.

Enjoy the parks and trails nearby or head out to the beach 5 minutes away. For those traveling with horses, we can accommodate your trailer and horses in our front paddock or a stall in our deluxe barn. Water is available and there are trails nearby for you to enjoy.

Ask about availability soon. After booking, guests are asked to send a one night deposit ($130 CDN) online on the Guesthouse website (see links below) or by mail with cheque or money order to confirm your stay. Information on the area will be sent to you to help plan your stay. Upon arrival, the remaining bill can be settled with cash, VISA or Mastercard or cheque in CDN funds.

Want to see more? A video tour of the cabin is available on our official website for the Broody Rooster (see links shown) to give you a better idea of the layout and size of the cabin.

Wonderful little farmhouse studio. Perfect for a couple wanting a country setting.

Darling country cottage. Owners were wonderful. Let us have all the garden veges we wanted to pick. Also fresh eggs! House cat was adorable and made himself at home. Great for our lifestyle of biking and playing outdoors.

Such a quaint and beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights at the little farm house with our toddler and baby and we loved it!

The property is so quiet and peaceful.

We all loved exploring the grounds and picking fresh veggies and fruit.

The accommodation was larger than we expected which was a nice surprise; weren't cramped at all!

We live in Vancouver and this property was a great little escape to unwind, we will definitely be back!

Fantastic Family stay at Vancouver Island

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful hosts, Nicole and John, lovely aspect with chickens and horses, food to pick, fresh eggs and wild berries, great facilities and a family farm holiday the kids will remember for ever. Clean and very functioning property which we LOVED. Everything we needed. All so close, but so far from busy Nanaimo and the port to the main land. Quiet, relaxing, but well centred for golf, horse riding wine tasting and island hoping. Loved it. Massive recommendation.

Amazing Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming cottage in the country. Our hosts, John and Nicole and of course, Oscar made us feel at home. Farm fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning, watching the horses. chickens and ducks added to our overall experience. The accommodations had everything in place that any traveller would need. John and Nicole are the most friendly people that you could ever meet and they made our vacation one that we will always cherish! We certainly hope to have the opportunity to return here for a longer stay on our next trip.

Thank you John, Nicole and Oscar for making our vacation special!
