I love living in the Dry Creek Valley and have been here for ten years. As a fifth-generation Northern Californian and former resident of SF and Oakland, I moved to the Dry Creek Valley in 2006 to devote my time to living sustainably and creative pursuits and have never looked back. You will see me from time to time engaged in projects around the property or just walking my two McNab/Border Collie dogs, Jack and Queenie. However, I assume my guests will want maximum privacy and am available for questions on request but will never intrude without invitation. I hope you will enjoy your stay and return year after year!
Sally Weed purchased this chateau / country house in 1998
Nestled in a side canyon of the Dry Creek Valley, this is a central location for wine tasting and it is perfect for a week or weekend of living the wine country lifestyle without any of the cares of managing it yourself! Grape creek, a seasonal stream has been involved in several habitat enhancement projects for the endangered Coho salmon and also has breeding populations of steelhead trout as well as many other aquatic creatures and birds. Wild blackberries and grapes line the edges of the creek as a treat for humans and wildlife alike! The house is nestled into the side of the hill at 400' elevation where the oak woodland begins to transition to redwood, madrone, and douglas fir forest. It feels very far away from civilization, but of course it is a quick drive to the center of town (12 minutes) and even faster to our great local grocery, Big John's (10 minutes). There is WiFi and reliable internet access as well as a media room for watching movies/cable tv etc.
Great environment for walking, both on trails within fenced property (dogs can run safely off-leash!) and also in the immediate neighborhood. Four very nice wineries (Michel Schlumberger, Mounts, Quivira, and A. Raffanelli) are within easy walking distance (but do call ahead to confirm hours and also to make an apointment if needed). A nice longer walk (just under two miles) gets you to the Dry Creek General Store (and the adjacent awesome local bar where EVERYONE is welcome!) where you can pick up snacks, picnic food/sandwiches, cold and hot beverages. Open for morning coffee at 6:30am! If you bring or rent bicycles, the options are awesome, too. Take a spin up to Lake Sonoma and there is a nice climb up into the Rockpile AVA. Another great trip is over Canyon Road into Geyserville for lunch at Diavola. The cycling options are truly as diverse as your dining options in Healdsburg! I am happy to make recommendations about local restaurants and day trips as well. When you are here, you will feel like you are truly Out in the Country but you can be on the freeway in six minutes from my front gate and you can get to the Healdsburg Plaza (the beautiful tree-encircled town square...music all summer on Tuesday nights) in twelve minutes. I love living in Healdsburg, and I know you will love it too!
We had an incredible visit to Sally's stunning property! The house, the views, the amenities...all of it was top notch. We had 6 adults and never once felt even close to crowded or on top of each other. The layout of the house is wonderful and the design and overall feel is warm, inviting and fun! We took full advantage of the "spa" as well as the amazing kitchen! We will certainly be back again, hopefully for longer! :)
Sally Weed, the owner of this very special home, has created an oasis of calm, artistic beauty and a true gathering place. There is something for everyone; warming by the fireplace, stargazing in the well heated hot tub or reading one of the hundreds of books that line the many bookcases. Fully equipped, there is little to want for. Even the kitchen garden outside the sundeck could provide lemons, persimmons or thyme. The bedroom sleeping beds had lovely linen sheets and the bathrooms are stocked with fluffy towels. Everything was immaculately clean. The only drawback of this well designed home is despite being able to easily sleep 10-12, it has just two bathrooms - one of each floor. The bathrooms themselves were of ample size and fully stocked but it slowed down the morning routine just a bit. The location is within easy reach of great wineries, food or shopping. And the views........amazing!
This was our first trip to the area. We were two couples and we all fell in love with the property. We had perfect weather. The house was perfect and better than we could imagine. The pictures do not do it justice. The view overlooking the vineyards is breathtaking. Sally provided a bottle of wine made from her vines - it was amazing. The house and surrounding area was so quiet at night and the view of the stars was incredible.
A group of 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Dry Creek Farm. There didn't seem to be a detail missed with this place! The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms immaculate and the professional kitchen was a joy to use. The view from the spa is amazing - in fact, we couldn't stop using the word "amazing" during our entire stay. Loved walking to the nearby wineries through the forest with eucalyptus. Perfectly located for wine tasting, and Healdsburg was a 10 minute drive. Sally was responsive and courteous. I highly recommend this place. I hope to be back again soon!
We had the greatest of stays at the Dry Creek Farmhouse. The place is so cozy and the views are just incredible. The house is fully stocked with everything you could imagine, you can tell the owners have thought of everything in advance of your stay. Attention to detail is obvious everywhere. The location of Dry Creek Farm is heavenly, away from it all but close enough for quick day trips to all of the nearby wineries.
Will try to stay here again soon!
The property was just as beautiful as the pictures. The home was well equipped and the owner was very helpful when we had questions. The location is well located among some of the nicest wineries. We would definitely return!
Dry Creek Valley holds quirky nooks and secret beauty to explore, including scenic vistas, wonderful wineries and country roads great for cycling, walking and running. Many bicycle tour companies bring clients of all levels here to train or just enjoy the scene. You can ride out from the front gate and come home for a soak in the beautiful spa sunken into the terrace by the pool! A six mile ride from home will take you on scenic West Dry Creek Road to Preston Farm and Vineyards for freshly baked bread, fermented treats of all kinds, fresh organic fruits and vegetables and lovely wine in a quirky, rustic and beautiful garden setting. We love to share our road (and our home) with cyclists...and dogs, too! You will find everything you need to cook your own gourmet meals, (including sou vide and instant pot available on request). Enjoy the beauty of Dry Creek Valley at Weed Farm!
