A narrow strip of sand separates the Pond from a restricted access Atlantic beach that is ten minutes by boat from your own private dock. Access is only available to owners and guests/renters. You can picnic by the dunes, or walk for miles along the beach and, often, see only your own footprints. Guests are encouraged to explore the Pond by sea kayak, windsurfer, sunfish or motorboat. Privacy and accessibility: The house has a comfortable elegance that allows for both impressive entertaining and casual family gatherings. Cathedral ceilings, white oak paneling, oak floors, expansive decks and picture windows throughout compliment the surrounding natural beauty.

Additional amenities include fireplaces, cable television, unlimited long distance calling, WiFi and Ethernet connections, two phone lines and a fax line.

Yet, this beautiful and well-equipped house is an eight-minute drive from the picturesque and historic whaling village of Edgartown, with world-class shopping and restaurants.

This fabulous spot is accessible by airline from New York, Providence, and Boston; and by car from Wood’s Hole via the ferry. A no vehicle fast ferry is also available from New Bedford. Automobiles, scooters, bicycles, watercraft are easily rented on the island.

Enjoy private tranquility or exciting entertaining and adventure.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved the house. The common areas are great, well furnished with great natural lighting in day and lots of light at night. It has everything you want, aesthetically modern and nicely appointed with an amazing, fully stocked kitchen with any utensil or appliance you might need—the most well furnished kitchen I have ever seen in a rental.

Water pressure was great; all rooms have room specific air conditioning that you can control. When we had problems, the caretaker was over within the hour. The house is kept up and super clean. Having the guest house, the open and surrounding decks gave us the space to spread out.

The location exceeded our expectation. This is an 8-15 minute bike ride into Edgartown (shopping, movie, restaurants, seafood, main grocery and gourmet food stores—all on the way in) and to Morning Glory Farms. Access to the main bike and road pathways that cross the island in all directions is 5+ minutes on bike. AND, the best—this house is on the Edgartown Great Pond and we rented a boat with motor which could seat 5-7 (including little people) and two kayaks and made our way several times during the week to the better swimming shore of the pond right by the mini-sand dunes that touch the atlantic (follow directions provided by owner on how to stay out of the shallows). Here you find a private beach with no more than a few others and miles of beach and walking.

Kayaking to the beach was one of the best parts; sunsets on the pond shine bright pink if the conditions allow and swan sightings often follow. That makes this house, remote on a dirt road and by the pond, but 5-10 minutes to town and all main roads really special. The owner was super helpful and very responsive in the planning of our trip. His recommendations for restaurants were right on. Cleaning staff are lovely if you want to use them during your rental.

This contemporary house is fully outfitted to make the most of your stay. Most appliances are 1-3 years old, and kitchen is set up for gourmet cooking. For guests staying one week, linen and towel change, cleaning and laundry will be done on the day of departure and charged to guests. The house will, of course, be clean upon your arrival. Guests may, however, have housekeeping services as frequently as desired (at guests' cost). For guests staying longer than one week, we request that our housekeeping staff change towels, bed linens and do light cleaning at least every 4-5 days, in addition to the cleaning at departure. It is highly recommended that guests rent a outboard motor boat from ' Wendy's Book-A-Boat'. A boat will be delivered to the house's dock when desired, and picked up when no longer needed. This is a great way to access the private Atlantic beach and to see the unspoiled sanctuary.

Excellent Vacation and a true Martha's Vineyard Experience

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from a week long vacation and I cannot say enough nice things about our experience. We had three families share the house (12 total) and it was perfect. Everyone had a bed and their own privacy. The guest house alone was big enough to be stand alone house anywhere else on the island. We spent the vast majority of our time on the huge deck and building fires at our own private beach when we weren't taking our rented boat across the pond to South Beach. I highly recommend you rent a skiff and kayaks if you want to get out on the water and have your own private beach experience along the Atlantic Ocean. We had several kids in our party so we spent most afternoons at the beach and then would return to the house and take the kayaks out at Sunset. We had plenty of geese floating on the water to keep us company. At night we would sit out on the deck before going to our private beach to sit by the fire and look at the stars above.

Edgartown is a short 5-10 minute drive away.

It was one of the greatest family vacations we have ever had. The homeowner was very responsive to our questions/needs both before we arrived and even while we were there.

A couple people in our party spent much of their childhood on the Vineyard in the summers and they thought the location of the house and the property itself was the best they had ever seen.

Serene and Private House on Edgartown Great Pond

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion at this lovely property on Edgartown Great Pond. It is a magical and serene setting. I sat on the dock each morning and watched the swans and geese and a playful group of otters. The pond is warm and perfect for swimming. We rented a motor boat and some of us went each day to the quiet Atlantic beach. Others easily biked into Edgartown (or up island) for restaurants and shopping. The house is spacious and comfortable with large deck areas. I especially appreciated the owner's beautiful taste--very interesting art and rugs. The kitchen had everything we could want for making family dinners. The adjacent guest house is simple and comfortable, and also tastefully appointed. The owner was very responsive and helpful when we had questions. We loved this property and would very much like to return next summer.

Martha's Vineyard Haven

  • 5 of 5

A perfect vacation haven of elegance, chic, tranquility, and relaxation. All amenities were perfectly appointed, maintained and impeccable. The open floor plan afforded us the feeling of space we sought, with light flowing in. The decks are great for entertaining and relaxing. It was so nice to have our own private dock providing privacy and practicality. The serenity of Great Pond is wonderful and yet we were so close to the old whaling village. The children enjoyed the big shaded lawn. In short it is an idyllic vacation home on a remarkable island ; all descriptions accurate, owners helpful and kind, 100% recommendation.

The Perfect Blend

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this house because it is the perfect blend of relaxed yet stylish, functional yet flowing, peaceful and serene yet near enough to the quaint old whaling village with all its shops and restaurants. The children loved the big lawn and swimming off the point in the lagoon. We rented a boat to go to the beach which was so private. It was really nice to have the air conditioning, especially for sleeping. All the beds, linens and towels looked new. There were plenty of glasses and dishes for when we had friends the family all together for a anniversary dinner. We'd definitely come back again.

A marvelous house - perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, so this was a big occasion. After much research, we were not disappointed. The houses are a perfect setting for a get together with family/friends. The layout gives plenty of space for people to spread out. The house is incredibly well-equipped for dinner parties, and even wine tastings. The living space is roomy, comfortable and stylish. The kitchen has more than you would ever need.

The location is fantastic for those who plan to spend more time hanging out and enjoying the pond and private beach. It is easy enough to get into Edgartown and around the island, but if you want to go out every night, you may prefer to be closer. But why would you with such a gorgeous home away from home.

The bedrooms in the main house are actually much nicer than they appear from the pictures. The bedrooms in the guest house are not quite as nice as they have not been as recently renovated, but are perfectly fine. The guest house living area is quite cute in a Scandinavian style. The 2 outdoor showers are a treat.

All in all, I would recommend this house to anyone. Tom, the owner, is an absolute gentleman and very much wants you to have a wonderful experience. You will have a wonderful stay.

Beautiful Home/Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the open/airiness of the home, with so many options inside and outside for relaxing and spending time together. The decor is perfect - elegant yet comfortable. We loved the fire place on cool nights. All the conveniences are there. The kitchen

is fully stocked and very fun for cooking.

The location is also wonderful, quiet, peaceful, with gorgeous water views. A short bike ride or walk to the bike path into town, the location affords both quiet countryside living and convenience to all the fun activities in Edgartown. Be sure to ask the helpful and friendly owners where to find the best seafood, oysters, and chocolate on the island.

We look forward to being back this year.
