Why The Owner chose West Glacier

We bought this house when we bought Eddie's Cafe, Gifts, & Ice-Cream shop, so our family could be together & enjoy the perks of working in Glacier National Park.

What makes this house unique

Apgar House, being located inside the park and near Lake McDonald allows me and my family the unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the park without the standard tourist traps. Those being the sometimes long car lines to get through the entrance, especially the parking as Apgar Village is the most visited area of the park. Having the house off the main section affords us the privacy we seek, yet it's only steps away from all the park activities and the trails.

Exceeded Our Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

My hiking girlfriends and I just got back from our first big vacation together as a group and rented Apgar House. The house was much bigger than we thought it was going to be. I read a couple of reviews that said there was a shortage of hot water and towels. We didn't have either problem and we all took showers the same day and sometimes had both showers going and had plenty of hot water and towels. There were no plumbing problems or smells in the house. I think that the owners probably listen to the reviews and try to fix things right away. Is the master bath shower small? Yes, but really how much do you need to do in the shower. The house had everything we needed down to q-tips! Everything was clean and the beds were comfy. It's close to the shuttle stops and the lake is withing crawling distance, literally! Amanda was so welcoming and Kintla the park puppy was such fun. Booking was super easy, checking in was easy. I had a couple of questions before we got there and I got answers right away when I asked them. I can't think of anything bad to say about this house or the owners and management. We are thinking about going back one day. We would highly recommend this house!! Book early though because it is one of the few houses right in the park. We booked a year early and got a great rate.

Location is awesome, house is ok

  • 2 of 5

This house is located in a great location, Apgar village is awesome and we loved that we could walk to McDonald Lake. The house however was only 'OK'. We had problems with hot water for showers. There were five of us and the hot water only lasted through one shower. The toilet in the master bathroom leaked. There is a reason that there are no pictures of the bathrooms on this site because they are very outdated and small. The shower in the master bathroom is TINY! I liked the fact that the house was pet friendly and we were able to take our dog, however I would recommend that the owner remove the carpet on the main floor as it is very stained and with the warmer temperatures the house smelled like pet urine. We have used VRBO many times and honestly for the money, this house is not worth it.

June visit to Glacier

  • 4 of 5

This is a great location within the park. The house was very comfortable for 4 adults and 3 children. We were within walking distance of stores for the teenagers and right by Lake McDonald. This made the ideal base to get around the entire park. We shopped in Kalispell at the Superwalmart and the kitchen had most of the utensils we commonly use. The only downside we encountered and it was minor was in dealing with Isaac Walton Inn for the reservation. Having them offsite and not always aware of what might be happening added a little confusion when the owner was not immediately available. Again, this was very minor, but that was our only negative. We would stay here again and would recommend it. If you have trouble climbing stairs, this could be a challenging rental, as the house entrance is on the second floor, but once there, there are 2 bedrooms on the main floor.

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Apgar House. We didn't have to wait in lines to get into the park. The house was very comfortable for our two families of four adults and three teenagers. We liked being in the Apgar village and within walking distance to McDonald Lake. We did our grocery shopping in Whitefish at Walmart and Costco for the week. The kitchen had almost everything we needed, except sharp knives and a blender. There was a shortage of bath towels. We did have satellite TV, but no WiFi. also in walking distance of transit center for park buses. Will stay here again.
