About Tony or Ron

I am a 30 year retired public school teacher living on the island with my three rescue dogs. I purchased my primary home ten years ago and have been in love with the island ever since, thus prompting me to purchase Cottage on 14th street. The property owner/manager is a Galveston Certified Tourism Ambassador and can help you with many historical facts and questions and point of interest on the island.

Tony or Ron purchased this house in 2006

Why Tony or Ron chose San Jacinto

The opportunity to restore this historic cottage so that I could share with others the same feeling I wake up to every day.

What makes this house unique

Walks on the beach, the great weather, historical land marks great events, shopping and most of all the friendly islanders.

Cozy Cottage - Good for our Dickens Weekend Trip

  • 4 of 5

We booked this property for our annual mom/daughter Dickens weekend trip. We've stayed at B&B's in the past, but with all of the good ones being closed now, we find that renting our own VRBO property works pretty well, too. All communication with the owners was easy as could be - check in and check out were seamless. We needed a later arrival and they were able to accommodate us with no issues. The house had good living space for two people who spent most of their time out and about - these historic cottages are small, in general - but good resting space for when we came back in the evening and wanted to hang out before bed. The kitchen was well-appointed, the back porch was great to sit on in the mornings, and the property felt clean enough, so we were happy. One bedroom is upstairs, in what might have been the former attic - it had a nice-sized mattress/bed set in at floor-level, which would have been great for kids or lounging, and a step up to another queen-sized bed at the back half of the room. One of our only critical comments would be about this step up - it was kind of a hazard when getting up at night. The owners know this and there are night lights around, which is good, but it surprised us once or twice anyway. It's not at all a deal-breaker, though. Downstairs is the other bedroom, which is right off the living space, separated by a set of glass-paned pocket doors.

This being where I slept, I can say the bed was extremely comfortable! Our only issue downstairs (and only at night when I was noticing it while trying to sleep) was the road noise. The street the cottage is on is a more-traveled thoroughfare with a stoplight in the next block, and has a decent volume of traffic. The historic windows in the cottage didn't keep out any of the noise from outside - ergo, it was decently loud our Friday night. It might have just been a busy night - there was much coming and going from the next house, lots of cars driving past, and an ambulance or two - and it did keep me up. I'm used to perfect silence while I sleep, however. I can say that Saturday night, I didn't notice it as much. Honestly, that's the reason for 4-stars out of 5 and it's not something to punish the owners for. While we old ladies wouldn't select this property again as a first choice, we noticed they have several other properties as well - we would look to stay in another one of their properties the next time we come down! Thanks for having us!
